You don't need backwards key (S) ever since it's so much slower than if you had just turned around with mouse. Also sideways keys I bind to strafe. Since S is free, it's maybe the most accessible key to bind now, which I keep interrupt on all my characters. IMO interrupt is the most important key. Q (stealth) E for escape. F for force cloak/cloaking screen.
good stuff...I've played WoW on and off since 2004, and I'm a clicker by nature. I use a few keybinds, but with multiple characters it's easy to get confused if you bounce around between them a lot, so consistency is a huge help.
I like using mouse-wheel "up" for anything that helps movement (Mage Blink, Warrior Charge, etc) then shift-mod it for dps boosters/finishers (Paladin Inquisition/TV). I use mouse-wheel "down" for interrupts & shift-mod it for whatever self-heal is most often used.
A truly good keybinding setup means that a player should not have to to take their hand of the mouse to ever hit a combat ability. The setup suggested does. The only numbers you should use for your main 'in-action' quick slots are keys 1 - 6 as you can only reach these if your hand is over the W-A-S-D keys. Then replace buttons 7 - = , with
Q-E-R-T-F-C. Then setup the row below (bottom centre quickslots) the same way, but with +shift. This is how the Pros do it :)
Another thing key-bindings is superior. It's amazing once you make the switch from clicking. I would never dream of going back. It literally takes like 2 weeks on consistent use to get really good and then you will improve your actions per minute like crazy.
@DBNonchalant That's how it was for me too after I got used to keybinding I never thought about switching back with any game I played. Even new games I start playing I keybind all the main abilities.
I just started using key bindings and now I've pretty much mastered it. I use Q-E-R-F-C-X then SHIFT+Q-E-R-F-C-X for the top slot. 1-2-3-4-5-G and SHIFT+1-2-3-4-5-G for the bottom center. I haven't mapped right and left slots because most of those abilities aren't spammed so I just click those but they can be mapped.
What I started doing for MMOs was to use "E-S-D-F" Instead of " W-A-S-D" for your movement, it took me about 2-3 days to get used to it but it was totally worth it as you get a whole extra line of keys in range without losing any.
Thanks. I'm new to MMOs, and I was getting wrecked when I did my first PvP at level 13 in a warzone. This keybinding thing is going to improve my game a lot. I appreciate an upper level offering good advice instead of yelling a newbies. Then again, yelling sometimes has its place.
@belleaspen86 I was also new to 'hardcore' MMOs, I did runescape but eh... I set up my key-bindings a while back and I'll tell you it is a drastic improvement once you don't have to look down. You can focus on the fight more and move a lot faster around the map and around your opponent. Key-bind and you will dominate.
@RickStrife2022 I'm not real sure I just know that if you do random world pvp it helps you get better and adapt to different classes and such, as well as help you get better using all your key binds.
thats easy when u have a mouse with more buttons normal 123456 on mouse and then ctrl 123456 and etc thats what i do but if u have no mouse like that then this is awsome
@xxdksxxtv Got to admit, I was a clicker (new to MMO's, thanks SWTOR!) but your vid helped a ton. Got everything set up last night and made life WAY easier for my Shadow.
I used my numpad for movement and everything left of 5 for keybinding. I only use my mouse for dialogue boxes and occasionally selecting a target I can't tab to quickly enough.
@Alt131sphixiate Oh Definately a good idea to try every alternate scheme there is till you find the one you like. Thank you for the feedback and alternative way of doing it :D
"| §" <--- this key thats close to "1" can't be used for me... I get that stupid ticket help thingy.. First mmo i've played that i cannot remap that key, even worse why even hotkey ticket help??? so stupid...........
@znoW666 Try and use that key for something else when you go to the keybinding menu see if that works, if not try and find where the keybind for the help menu is and take it off. If it is bound to a key then you will be able to remove it you just have to find it in the keybinding menu.
Thanks Bro great vid I'm new to the play stye of SWTOR so i am a clicker extraordinaire, I was looking for a way to avoid buying the Naga (cant see my self spending $70 on a mouse) but this seems like a very very good alternative!
@AwsomeSnowGlobes Yeah it makes things smoother for you to do while your doing anything like PVP PVE or whatever it just makes you react fast knowing there is a key there for your spells instead of having to click :D
@Veteran94s Yeah I wasn't worried about the armor at the time :D. But this will help higher level people as well as low level people. But I am gonna do more guides for SWTOR once I ding 50 :D
@MrSteelefire Thank you :D I am trying to improve the quality of my videos with everyone I release. Releasing videos everyday is getting tough but I am not stopping I wanna get my subs up and start live streaming those are my future plans :D but there will be a video about that tomorrow :D Thank you.
