  • Now your reflector is too small. It should be just a bit larger (~5%) than the area of your elements because what you're doing is reflecting back to the element-- so those elements with no screen behind them are getting no help. So the idea in your lead text is correct. Nicely done using 12 bays --haven't seen that before. Know whart else I haven't seen? A second reflector behind the first. Think about it. Again, about 5% larger than the first reflector.

  • @notvalidcharacters Thanks good ideas. Will need to wait for spring now : )

  • Dude thats sooooo badass!!!

  • I hope you have that thing grounded...

  • I'M GLAD YOU DON'T LIVE BESIDE ME. I wouldn't want to have to look at that mess on top of your roof .Of coarse if you invited me over for beer and a good football game I could look the other way.

  • : ) More like a cup of tea here : )

  • Hi Buddy,

I have messed with these antennas for a while. This one is very good but I might suggest you use 300 ohm flat twin lead as jumpers between your bays and then all the way to your TV with the balun as near the TV as possible. There is way less loss in the 300 ohm stuff than the coax; and you will only need one good balun. I try to find old baluns by ChannelMaster or others made in the 1960s, they are more efficient than the crappy ones you get today.

    All in good fun!

    Thanks

  • Thanks!

  • @psb2usa, Can you use this antenna for shortwave radio?

  • @VintageWorkbench I remember the 300 ohm flat wire. What is a baluns. Im going to make one of these I live one hundred miles from Tulsa and OKC.

  • I guess it's too tough for you to read where it says

MORE INFO for a DIRECT link to the plans

    ; )

  • I built an antenna very similar to this. I think I have an issue with my splitter. I used a 3 to 1 (3 out, 1 in). When i tried it with all 3 connected, it showed no signal. when I tried just 1, it found signal. just wondering what you used, and if you think I am getting feedback through the splitter and thats why it's not working. any input would be great.

  • I had similar results but had 2-3 brands of splitters here to try, the one I used worked best I found.

  • so the 3 to 1 splittler is correct, but u tried different brands of splitters? ( eg sanyo, motorola)

  • You need EXACTLY the same length of coax going from the antenna elements to the splitter/combiner, otherwise you'll have what's called "multipath" and you won't get a picture.

  • are your wires touching? because my antenna gets a really bad signal when the wires touch, so my wires are seperated and never touch.

  • Ypur right, my wires don't touch. A simple drinking straw will do the trick, or electrical tape.

  • Here's stupid question does the 3-way splitter reverse the signal on it's own or did you have to do something to it?

  • The splitter does not know what way round it is, does not seem to matter with simple splitters.

  • Thanks man

  • what is the background music to this? it sounds so damn familiar, yet i can't place it.

  • Deutsche Unschuld - 12506

  • Around 25% better, an amp may well help and the best way to connect it is in line with the coax cable.

  • @psb2usa How many channels do you get and how many miles can an 8 Bay reach out to catch signals? I built a 4 Bay coat hanger antenna, and I get 23 HD channels, I live in the Toronto-Buffalo region, I get NBC, CBS, ABC, FOX, TCN, etc...., just curious if you can get more than 23 HD channels? I would love to build an 8 Bay antenna!!

  • @hailherrosner Just scanned in 42 channels here in the Twin Cities, mostly garbage, but you just cant beat HD TV from an off-air antenna. Hope to see you on the SatellitePlus.US forum!

  • @psb2usa Do you use 2 VHF/UHF Balun Transformers and a 2 signal splitter to connect an 8 Bay antenna? I want to build one, and need to know how it works? Please let me know!! Thanks.

  • How much better is the signal with this antenna rather than single hanger antenna? Also, would an amplifier make this better? And how would I connect it?

  • How long are your V's.... I tried to make this but I think the v's are too short

  • Total of 8" so 4" each side of the V

  • this is the 2nd antenna video i have heard with this song, i dont know who it is by or what the name of it is, but damn i like it

  • Have you tried making an 8 bay x 2 instead of a 4 bay x 3? Would that work? How far out, in miles, can you receive some stations solidly? 2 way splitters are alot less loss than 3 or 4 way splitters, unless you buy an expensive low loss 4 way splitter. It is a ham in CO that makes them for the frequency range you specify. How high is your antenna?

  • antennas are simple and all the same in essence, think of signal as fish air as water and your antenna is a net to get more fish bigger is better!!!

  • What did you use to combine all three signals into one output cable.

  • A 3 way cable splitter......... in reverse :)

  • Can you get the sci fi with that>

  • ok good images of basically the same stuff, on this antenna. How about a close up of how each array was attached to each other? you have 4 "V's" on one side times six, granted the middles are a cross over. How did/do you connect each of the 4 "V's" to each other. I understand that you use one 75 ohm connector for a row-but the rest are connected ...?

  • Damn, you must get China's state tv with it!
