I feel really sad having watched the video and seen what has happened to Crossroads - the best soap on TV. The updated Crossroads just wasn't given a chance by ITV to re-establish itself.
i think so. what a strange way to end a tv show. Just when I thought the final scene of Sunset Beach was the weirdest- but being American it's probably to be expected.
2001 did exist but then it abruptly ceased and was meant to come back but didnt, then daft mutt Yvonn Grace took the health and "glitzed" it up which obviously killed it dead, she was also the one responsible for the "Emmerdale Family" who didnt last long in that soap.
The trouble with Crossroads was, unlike Coronation Street, was constantly trying to reinvent itself, and in doing so was very unsparing with it's most loyal members of the cast. They sacked nearly every decent character they ever had - from Meg Mortimor and Miss Diane to David Hunter and Jill Harvey and more. No wonder the viewers in both the original series and the revamp left in their droves.
I totally agree with you,I remember watching Miss Diane(Sue Hanson) dying of a brain tumour in 87 and being totally disgusted at the way such a loyal actress was being treated,Noele Gordon all over again.
Then the remake killed off Jill(Jane Rossington)Jame said she could have went back as her body was never seen, but Carlton weren't interested in Jane Rossington or fans of the orginal Crossroads and thats why the remakes died a death.
The Yvon Grace version was just awful and bore no resemblance to the original series. The 2001 version was really quite good - until they wrote Jane Rossington out, who, lets be honest WAS Crossroads. They did that to Noele Gordon in the original series, and that didn't last very long after that either.
Her name should have been Yvonne DisGrace, to be called Producer and do that to a programme that was starting to gather a momentum, despite having to battle through a hostile press, well what can you say. She took the Nottingham studios with her too.
agreed. i remember thinking that Yvon Grace must have had a death wish when i switched on to see the (second) revamp only to be faced with that god-awful and camp as tits mess of gibberish that it morphed into.
Jane Rossington was in doubts about returning to the New Crossroads she actually admitted that, but she agreed to stay for a short while til the show got on its feet, admittedly it did. the reason 2001 series started to lose viewing figures was the time slot they gave to it. This was one reason they moved the original to after the National News & Central Local News, because by that time people would be home & having tea in front of the tv. Also with events in US & News programmes were cancelled
The thing was the 2001-2002 didn't "end" as far as we were aware was it was coming back on air but lord we were not prepared for what Yvon Grace offered us. I think if anyone should do anything resurrect the 2001-2002, and schedule it at a proper time. Am sure with Home & Away they succeeded changing from itv to Five. We'll have to see re Neighbours. I think Crossroads should be back and again people should fight for it
As I note that the parties involved have not worked since in ITV, its a great shame that £10M was totally wated - I should know as I speak of as an investor. The only good thing was the re-vamped theme by the talanted Tony Hatch. Just lets you see what sorruption can achive on telivision.
Archives & You Tube are all we have left of what was a great soap; Our identity for Central, As Nottingham studios are now part of Nottingham University & ATV/Central Studios in Broad St, Birmingham, are being demolished. The Nottigham Studios you could always identify in Lenton because of the Central Rainbow coloured "Cones" on the roof & were seen from most local areas. Central was way ahead of other regions with its programmes & its Idents.
I live in the Yorkshire area but you are right - Central produced some great shows in its time. All the regions have gone now though and ITV is a much poorer network for it.
I totally agree about Yvon. When 2001-2002 version ended I was looking forward to a bit of a revamp, and when I heard it was going to be a bit more glam i was really excited- but she went over the top, and the ending was poor. She is reposnible for the death of Crossroads as far as I am concerned
Yvon Grace riuned Crossroads. She was also the daft moot that put thet New Family in Emmerdale who were soon axed. Secondly Carlton shut alot of the regional studios down, Even the cramped Nottingham Studio in Chilwell looks like it could be axed despite being a few years old when Carlton moved Central. itv should bring back our regional identities, each region created some good viewing for their areas, now there is nothing bar from regional news!
Awsome, what a great theme tune as well. I just watched an episode with the 1987/88 theme and muted that poor cheap nasty theme and played this great 2001 tune instead. They should have kept this set and the show would still be on air today, the changes in 2003 were just poor.
Ahh, the 2001-2002 version of Crossroads. :) Mark 2 was so brilliant and better than the 2003 version. Mark 3 was so camp, mad, odd and rubbish. Thanks to Yvon, she changed the better version and got rid of characters we liked. I'd love to get all 320 episodes of Mark 2. :) Dazza xx :)

ITV should buy the rights to Brookside and replace that at the teatime slot.
