I don't believe there is deep xenophobia in greece. On the contrary Greeks are early-adopters to all things foreign - to a fault. They love foreigners! As far as teh "Albania" issue you keep discussing, these Arvanites or Albanians have totally totally assimilated in Greek society, taken Greek names, and have spoken Greek for generations. The only "albanian" problem in Greece are new immigrants who can't find work. Greeks have been persecuted for decades in Southern Albania.Talk about that!

lesson X: greek minority in albania has had full recognition and rights since before WWII. greek minority were big supporters of Hoxha and a greek minority member even held the Defense Minister post during the Hoxha regime. they have had schools in their own language and they have lived in freedom.
greeks for a long time did not recognize the existence of an independent albanian orthodox church, so they labeled all orthodox as greek. until the UN stepped in and estimated 80K greeks.

I don't believe that problems of immigrants in Greece, should be dealt with in this forum. This forum is about the failings of socialism which has brought Greece to this state. Balkancool...what do you expect when millions of immigrants flood into a country which lacks the economic prosperity to absorb them all. Did you expect these people to be welcomed with open arms, free housing and high-paying jobs? Greece cannot handle these immigrants and they should return to their home countries.

standmanmike, i don't like anyone getting killed. but people don't realize how many lives are ruined by fascist policies that obstruct freedom and create miserable lives.
that is mass murder of the mind and heart! we have to make the fascists understand one way or the other, but i have hope of a better world with open borders and creative open space for all of us in the balkans, enough of all this primitive arguments about name of country or lake or religious freaks telling us about identity!
