  • though makes me wonder if this really is a live performance. can't see if guitars are plugged in.

  • @DuskfallBand they're singing live, but the music is on a backing tape.

  • @DarkAngel182 wow why would they do that?

  • @DuskfallBand easier to sing live to a backing tape then it is spending hours setting up equipment for a 3 minute live performance.

  • @DarkAngel182 it doesn't take hours. also it why do they let other members pretend they are playing when they are actually not? it would be a karaoke..

anyway now I begin to notice that it sounds like they are not even singing live.. hm..

  • @DuskfallBand its a 30 minute show, they have about a dozen acts on, its too much hassle to set everything up live. Lots of shows (particularly back then) would have the bands miming, rather than playing live. Its not really that surprising. Just look up "Top of the pops" on here, virtually all the bands mimed.

  • @DarkAngel182 well then I think a band should lack self-respect a little bit in order to participate in such thing and act ant take it seriously. Unlike this band: /watch?v=uS7W-OiPwjo

  • omfg both are great vocalists. and the song is so catchy. I mostly listen to extreme metal, especially black, but this is A grade stuff.

  • Ofra Haza's voice is so perfect its kinda scary

  • Patricia Morrison was just window dressing, she never actually played on any of the records!

  • A.W.E.S.O.M.E.

  • Ofra Haza was so beautiful... I miss her to the bones...

  • Oh God it´s worse than I thought!!!!

  • Fuckin fantastic! this song is my all time favourite and Ofra's voice is just wonderful xxx

  • Love it!!!!

  • Pure Class !!!!!

  • "heavan"

  • well i like it Cassandra

    xxxx

  • Takes me back..... The extended version really tested my fitness dancing to it in a sweaty nightclub : )

  • Sisters of Mercy ein Stück Geschichte. Crematory, Cradle of Filth covern Sisters of Mercy.

  • I love it, but was wondering how much is miming

  • @calabiyou The vocals, at least, sound different to any studio version of the song, and you even get Von's characteristic live gasp on the word "cry" towards the end. I bet they really are singing, but the rest might be playback.

  • @centurionofprix ....Its a live vocal over a backing track both are singing LIVE

  • i wana win 1000 e

  • Stunningly haunting. Darkly beautiful.

  • Every time I hear this song it sounds totally awesome. It used to be sweet when ToTPs occasionally played some 'alternative' music.

  • Good for TOTP2 for playing the whole thing. You don't get all her vocals in this shorter version of the song, but its still complete as it is. RIP.

  • the only way to sum this up is fucking epic!

  • @SlimBoyArcadeFire shut up mr 'arcade fire' hahaha no, just no.

  • @SlimBoyArcadeFire

her whole life and death are on wikipedia

  • @bslapyoo I gave you a thumb up just for the sake of it (you got too many of the other ones), but the song you are talking about is, especially by comparison, a disgrace.

  • How on earth can you get Pat and Ofra mixed up?! loved Ofra, RIP. but still love Pat. She's just as beautful. She's my hero. xx

  • I love it!!!

  • Why do they sound like they're singing during an earthquake? The vibrato makes it annoying :/

  • Ofra Haza IS a real Angel of Love, proceed from theTemple of Eternal Light...

  • I love Sisters of Mercy by Ofra Haza kinda blows them away with those backing vocals- best backing vocals ever

  • d wuevosssss

  • Eldritch's voice can't hack it anymore. Saw them at Leeds Met last night and it's fair to say that when they played TOL it was a bit of a let down and a watered-down version of earlier performances.

That said, all in all it was a top gig.

  • You can see Andrew is trying to hold back a huge grin because he's on top of the pops with OFRA MOTHERFUCKING HAZA. Musta felt like a boss that day, for sure.

  • Meets the circus? Lol

  • @bslapyoo

go home to ur ghetto ....... what a fu*king sh*it

  • better than original

  • 6 people didn't press the red dot

  • Comecei a ouvir Ofra Haza após esse clipe, a voz dela penetra na alma. Que Deus a tenha.

  • This music is awesome!! love it.....

  • i keep pressing that red dot, still cant win :(

  • GOOD.

  • mintha keveredne a 80-as és a 90-es évek....

    hol hallasz manapság(2010)ilyen zenét?örök klasszikus!!!

  • Wonderful ToTP2 moment dedicating a song to a person who is not in the band, they have confused Patricia and Ofra.

  • @Djarra yes I noticed that!

  • @Djarra

There is no confusion. The airdate was apparently on Patricia's 40th Birthday (in 1992) It clearly states that Patricia was in the band "then" (the past) and is "now" (1992) in the Damned.

  • @Radharc No, this program originally aired in 2002, the clip it played was from a performance they did 10 years prior in 1992. They chose this clip as it would have been Patricia's 40th birthday on the day this show went out in 2002, however the performace they chose was one from when she was not in the band, clearly they got Patrica mixed up with Ofra Haza.

  • @DarkAngel182

How have they got anything mixed up? It's PMs birthday, and OH is quite clearly there, howling.

  • @Djarra This is ofra haza Patricia played bass for the band. All ofra did was the backing vocals as shown int his video

  • @Djarra This is ofra haza Patricia played bass for the band. All ofra did was the backing vocals as shown int his video patricia also looks like a creepy vampire :)

  • What a nice audio, perfect, perfect.

  • I am liking this because of Ofra...Eldritch can bite me until he does a Sisterhood tour and/or recognizes the Doktor as the true talent of the band, and himself as a tool.

    :D

  • Amazing...

  • @bslapyoo naah rap music sucks!

  • Possibly the best song of the last 20 years

  • Fantastic song!!

  • Absolutely without doubt one of the greatest songs of the early90's, such power, love it

  • did they ever find out what really killed Ofra Haza?!?!

  • for the record, the Sisters have ALWAYS used a drum machine (aside from their first singles songs 'Watch', Home of the Hitmen' and 'Damage Done'.)

i just wanna know what happened to Ofra Haza!?!? the whole 'death investigation' regarding her death/autopsy was VERY suspect...is there any new news???

  • Just saw them yesterday in Belgium, THEY WERE AWESOME!!!

  • E' un figoooo!! XD

  • this is one hell of an orgasm to my ears

  • does anybody know ofra`s lyrics in this song?

btw great song and great performance

  • if you are a goth fan please be sure not to come in greece .they will throw you eggs and milk on the street .

  • @jhnbalance wouldn;t have thought there would be many people wanting to dress in black in that country owing to the heat.

  • @DarkAngel182

What about all those old ladies, knitting and looking morose? Mourning husbands, 20 years, dead

  • @jhnbalance yeah but the fugly women in Greece have beards too =)

  • @jhnbalance Try England they just beat the shit out of you!

  • @jhnbalance this happen to yr greece...not to mine...dark wave and goth music is always up here....cause it s a state of mind not a dress code

  • i think its live, and yes its a drum machine.

  • One of the most unexpected and striking collaborations in pop music history. Thumbs up to Eldritch for teaming up with Ofra… :)

  • cool song

  • FYI, the singing is live. How do I know that? Because there are points where Ofra didn't sing when she was supposed to, and you didn't hear it being played.

  • he wanted to be a pop star...

  • what about the sequence with the synth?

  • RIP OFRA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • What a great song, 1 to 5 stars i give 5000! Ofra Haza your angel voice was unique RIP.

  • there's been a few apprently...but I can't imagine a Sisters' tour would be kind to band members (Craig Adams going awol in the USA) or equipment..lol

  • Beautiful song! And I didn't know that on vocals is Ofra Haza! Great!

  • I agree MrMJV..This is a belter of a tune. Who d'ya think could make as good a job of covering it though ?

  • This is my favourite post of this song.I wouldn't be surprised if somebody else covers this song soon.

  • the best song i ever heard, you don't know how much drugs and alcohol i took each time i heard this amazing song........the old days, nothing remains the same...billy from ALGERIA........

  • COOL:)xd

  • Ofra was huge. May she rest in peace.

  • @Stasi78 oh I didnt know she passed, thats sad :<

  • Yes Ofra was the original lineup for this. She passed and Terri Nunn from Berlin was her replacement but nobody comes close to Ofra.

  • @djmones HA HA HA, that is funny. OIfra Haza only sung on this song. The original "temple of love" was released around 1983 I think. Ofra Haza was never a member of the Sisters of Mercy! She died of AIDS in 2000, HIV given to her by her rather disgusting husband apparantly. Very sad demise.

  • @cogoo

what was meant is that in the original release of this song Ofra Haza sang. When she passed the song was later recut and Teri Nunn from Berlin sang the backing vocals. Its in the credits, you have to purchase a new cd to see the press credits as my old stuff only has hers. But thanks

  • R.I.P. Ofra haza she was so beautiful

  • He looked better when he had a black leather jacket

  • fuckin spyros eldritch rulez

  • In the period 1990-93 music UK music was a blank. Aside from our neighbours, Nirvana, Pixies, there was very little originality going on, Manics, a bit of Blur and Charlatans notwithstanding. Stone Roses and Happy Mondays shot their bolt in 1989. This song stands out in that period, despite the remake. And as I hadn't heard the original, I like it. Although, like the Psychedelic Furs Pretty in Pink 1981 vs 1986 abortion, I understand where rhessex is coming from.

  • I don't think it ruins it, but yeah, the original is better

  • @rhessex sound guy left her levels too high so she drowned out others.... but Her voice is increbile in vid.

  • Wasn't the one with Ofra the original?

  • @rpvee

No, the one with Ofra was a 1992 re-recording for the compilation Some Girls Wander By Mistake (at least I'm pretty sure that's what is was called). The original was from some time in the 80s (I forget when) and featured solely Andrew on vocals.

  • @Aamonath Ahhhh thanks, that clears things up!

  • the good old times

  • I'm just waiting for someone to point out that there's no drummer lol!!

  • There IS a drummer, he is called "Dr Avalanche" and is in the equipment racks behind them!

    :-)

  • That's my point.

We both know there is, but there will more than likely be someone who comes along and says "This can't be live because there's no drummer!!"

Then we could say "Well, actually, I think you'll find...." etc etc

  • Aaaah right, yes I see what you're saying now!

    :-)

  • but at least you only have to punch the beat into Dr Avalanche once. that's an improvement on most goth band drummers :)

(only joking, drummers... where would we be without you, really)

  • @rk696

The name of the drummer is Doktor Avalanche -- a drum machine that has been a band member since the early 80s. :)

  • @rk696 LMFAO i once got laid because i told some girl i could introduce them to the Sisters drummer =)

  • Memories.

This song is awesome, and Ofra's voice and talent is surely missed.

The music is piped but the lyrics are live. Ofra never lip-synced.

  • I dont think the backing track id live, but the vocals are

  • I don't think this is live.

  • it's live. ofra haza doesn't lip sync.

and andrew eldritch's voice is deep. doesn't take too much effort to sing.

  • You'd be surprised. Ofra lip-synced a number of times throughout her career, mostly during the old Israeli TV 80's-pop days when the technology couldn't support live music, or during her later career, when she was sick (including the famous Yerushalayim Shel Zahav performance). Everything was live during her prime in the late 80's/early 90's, though.

  • It sure isn't. TOTP is NEVER live!

  • Very unique track with good combination of Ofra voice and the lead singer of band. Can't stop shanking my leg to the energetic rhythm. This can DANCE. Thank you for posting.

  • boy the vocals were the thing that made me thing is was playback. it sounds too perfect

  • well having compared this to the released version, there are subtle differences in Andrew Eldritches voice, and Ofrah's singing is substantially differant.

  • @bambamboom2

Yeah Eldritch and Haza's voices sound somewhat different from the studio version, and I think the guitars do to. Although the performance was probably slightly enhanced for the release. I've heard them live a few other times, and Eldritch sounds almost the same as he does in studio.

  • this cant be truely live. Playback?? what do you think

  • The vocals are live, but the instruments are an a backing tape.

  • especially the drums..

  • RIP Ofra Haza. :(

  • ¡¡¡¡ TEMAZOOO!!!! lo mejor de lo mejor SUPERIOR

  • I dealt with Mr Eldritch's gas & electric accounts at my work the other day. The name came up and I was like WTF lol.

  • that IS weird....His name is Andy Taylor in real life

  • OMG it's octo-mom!

  • My favorite song...

  • Wow - Ofra Haza... What a banshee! Such a uniquely uplifting and melodic contrast to Eldritch's darker, more percussive vocal style in this song.

It's no wonder why Sisters have proven to be so influential to so many when hearing songs like these.

  • A banshee isn't quite complimentary, Dorry. haha

  • *drools* gosh he was so sexy back then !

  • Don't you like his new, shaved head/goatee look?

  • Amazing performance (to playback, but the vocals are live), Ofra was on form as ever. Beautiful voice and sorely missed.

  • Typical TOTP 2 - the blurb in the middle says they are playing it for Patricia Morrison's birthday "then a member of the Sisters"! Bet she loved that if she was watching!! As my mate once said about Steve Wright "He thinks he's funny..and he thinks he knows a lot about music".

This was played at my wedding disco! It amused me and my wife anyway! No disrespect to Ofra but I prefer the 83 version - yes a bit tinny but much tighter and the second chorus is great.

  • You played this at you wedding? That's freaking awesome, how the hell do you dance to it?

  • Can't remember how we danced to it but I think we'd drunk a lot. Other not entirely appropriate songs on the playlist were Joy Division "Love Will Tear Us Apart" and Anti Nowhere League "Woman". A good night was had by all - except maybe those who wanted "Dancing Queen" Ha!Ha!

  • haha nice. Drunk dancing is always gold.

  • I love dancing to this song. I do it all the time. My usual hangout plays it all the time. A lot of head down, sharp movements, and the hair has to swing around a lot.....

  • So like the goth kids from South Park?

  • This song is AWESOME !!!!!

    RIP Ofra

  • ...miss your angelic voice, Ofra...! RIP...

  • 2:45 !!!

  • What?

  • Donu is most perceptive; Wright is a dick par excellence.

  • that green laser's on the lp cover for this single.. this was one of the gothier numbers in the 'indie discos' in t early 90s. i always found this song quite funny

  • fuck heavy metal! this is andrew fucking eldritch you biaaaaatchhh!

  • LOVE YA BEAUTIFUL ANDREW!!!

  • what?:P something beautifull :P, and this song give me that incredible feeling.........

  • underground, in temple of love, i feel the miricle, feel the paradise, feel some things what i never seen before.... plz *temple of love* give me that feeling .. just one more time....

  • What????

  • :P:P:P this song make me incredible, nothing more:P

  • LOVE YA BABY ANDREW!

  • omg loooooovee this soooong!!!!!!!!!!! FIRST flaaash!!!!!!!

  • Ofra Haza! I listened to her in 90-92... Funny, I never knew about this song, now I do! Thanks!

  • She commands that stage- they're all good, but she's just like an angel.

  • Heavy metal meets David Bowie meets The Circus.

    Lol.

    Best comparison I've ever heard.

  • First I stumble about this one wiht such a good quality, previous version I've seen was very poor in quality, thanks you made day!

  • Always glad to be of service!

  • Saw them right after this in Brixton Academy then! The best show EVER!!!!!!!

  • Saw them live in Budapest in 2006- still one of the best sounds I have heard ever! Go Dr. Avalanche Go!!!

  • Garsh! Didja notice the wedding band on Andrew's left hand? When was he married? I liked that Dr Avalanche was on stage (L)

  • He's worn that ring since '85. Never married. He is the coolest.

  • and...Ofra...VOCAL NR 1...

  • that was a month before I was born... The sisters ruleeee!!!!

one of the best bands ever

  • Eeeeh, you young whipper snappers!

  • LOL! I'm 17 :) Love the sisters, my 2nd fave band lol

was born on may 1992 (I lied on utube so i can watch a vid that was over 18 lol)

  • I was 20 back in 92. I feel like a right old fart!

  • haha! you are not :)

    I'm just too young lol

  • oh feck...and i passed the 30....jesus...still a brilliant band though :)

  • The song remains the same

  • Wrong band, you're thinking of Zepplin!
