If you have any curiosity about the bizarre world of AIDS Denialism, I recommend Seth Kalichman's book "Denying AIDS". He infiltrated the movement and has some really interesting insights into Duesberg's beliefs. They've set him up as their celebrity, and as an otherwise unremarkable scientist surrounded by Nobel Prize winners, he eats it up. His bold theorizing about drug use in the 80's could have been right, and he would have been a star, but it didn't happen.

If you have any curiosity about the bizarre world of AIDS Denialism, I recommend Seth Kalichman's book "Denying AIDS". He infiltrated the movement and has some really interesting insights into Duesberg's beliefs. They've set him up as their celebrity, and as an otherwise unremarkable scientist surrounded by Nobel Prize winners, he eats it up. His bold theorizing about drug use in the 80's could have been right, and he would have been a star, but it didn't happen.

@dewinthemorning AIDs drugs have basically been free in the US, (due to various pre-Obamacare medical aid programs) as have plenty of other outrageously overpriced drugs that *are not* lifesaving, such as chemotherapy drugs for cancer costing ~3000 per week. That same money could save a lot more lives put to other uses.

Science is a harsh meritocracy, where only the science that can demonstrate its accuracy is accepted and gets the money you are so keen on. If a scientist could actually falsify HIV then they would be famous and their research would be funded in turn. Gee, I wonder why that hasn't happened yet?
