he doesnt sound like eric johnson. i think people need to go listen to eric a little more. joe has more mid range, not quite as thick as EJ, joe doesnt use a tube driver which has an almost fuzz like tone, you can hear more pick attack in joe, and his phrasing is much more blues base. the only thing joe really does that sounds eric johnson-ish is the pentatonic sequences he does when playing quicker scale runs. but EJ didnt invent that.
@AlembicPools I took this exact amp out on loan from Bogner a few years ago to record with, and it is in fact a 100B. Great sounding amp! I didn't want to give it back, so I ended up buying a 101A when I did give it back. Never heard a better sounding amp.
I've been waiting a long time for someone who can do the following:
1. Lay down rock, rock blues and blues tunes that will have you picking your jaw up off the floor. 2. Absolutely rip apart the fretboard by applying multilple techniques and blazing chops (this guy is NOT a one trick pony) from song to song and even within a song. 3. Have a voice that supports his guitar work AND can sing within the framework of multiple styles (rock, blues, rock blues etc..). JOE BONAMASSA is the REAL DEAL!!!
I like Joe's modern approach to blues and I've enjoyed his rockin' side but sorry, too much EJ, and that new band, ugh, what a career bloodsucker Glenn Hughes is. Get out of that vampire band Joe, before you wind up like Tommy Bolin!!
so he uses eric johnsons style and sound sort of! he is the best guitarist around at the mo and all people can do is bitch ! hes out there doing it making lots of money and loving what he does . so people that bitch can go back to there bedrooms and pretend to play infront of thousends of people and have time from there touring plan and come on u tube and bitch!!!!!!!!!!!
@ejSignStrat first of all...he doesnt copy eric johnson..its called INFLUENCE..ever heard of it? People act like every guitarist in modern times is supposed to be completely original when thats IMPOSSIBLE considering all of the great guitarists there have been since music started..u have to get ur ideas from somewhere...
how can you have anything but praise for a man who loves his job and is so NICE and humble AND who produces such amazing music and atmosphere makes me want to play :)
This always confuses me: is the jubilee a fully functional guitar amp, or just a guitar preamp? I have always heard joe refer to it as a preamp marshall, but I think I've heard of playing it straight to a cabinet without a separate power amp. any ideas?
@9reasy5am he's referring to preamp distortion. The plexis are non-master-volume, which means they have to be cranked to get the real dirt. The Jubilee is a master volume amp, and has diode clipping in the preamp section. In other words, it has a ton of preamp gain on tap.
@9reasy5am he's referring to preamp distortion. The plexis are non-master-volume, which means they have to be cranked to get the real dirt. The Jubilee is a master volume amp, and has diode clipping in the preamp section. In other words, it has a ton of preamp gain on tap.
I never really noticed how similar is runs were to Eric's, but he makes them his own. His style for me is really sweet on this video, and he's definately someone who knows his guitar. Slow stuff is good, and expressive, but there's also a time when you gotta rip it - the licks in this are so badass.
Ok no duh as you say.. well why do you wanna sound like eric johnson so much when you clearly had a better style before you got into that soulless crap of running up and down those pentatonic scales so much...thats erics thing and you do your thing wich i like but dont be mad because people like what you used to do before you started sounding to much like eric. remember bloodline? you were playing way cooler stuff then. dont forget your entertaining us and we liked your style before.
@coolguy4sho Okay so you seem to be judging his sound off of this one demonstration, but it doesn't seem like you've actually listened to his new albums lately because theres alot more than just the Eric Johnson sound that you talk about. Every guitarist is gonna have sounds drawn from others, and Joe is no exception. Atleast he's got the balls to admit when something sounds like someone else. Also don't make it sound like you're the voice of the fans, because it looks like people still dig him.
@Blackoutwalkin no guitar snobbery just a guys a opinion and his friends and what we have discussed etc. i dont hate joe and still like his playing but wish he wouldnt do those pentatonic runs so much that came from eric johnson. i like everything else joe does i just think he does that too much. only reason im saying something is because i am a fan and i do go to shows and buy his records. i wish he would do the slower stuff more. im surprised he reads the comments. just the voice of a few fans
Cool. Joe is from my hometown. Utica, N.Y. / Yorkville N.Y. His practice hall back in the day was right across from ours in the same building. Great guy!
I was just watching Joe go through his rig at guitar center and preaching about how it's best not to build your sound over "one-of-a-kind" pieces of equipment.
Fast forward 10 minutes: I'm now watching this video and he claims that he prefers the 1987 version of the jubilee and that the Van Weelden is one of 15 in existence.
This is his old rig. If you look at Guitar Centers channel they did an interview with him and he bought every single piece of that rig at Guitar Center.
@Tonycaveman I think he was reffereing to like effects and rack stuff etc etc. Probably wasn't talking about amps cause you cant get two-rocks and carrol anns at gc nor can you get category 5 amps. They might have a pre owned amp from one of those amps I just mentioned , but it would be rare.
he has lost weight. i certainly hope he did it in a healthy way and not as a result of using drugs. hes stayed clean for this long, lets pray he stays that way. dont want to lose this great too soon.
Let's hope he's powdering his nose as much as he fuckin wants. If you want squeaky clean, go watch disney channel. This is rock n roll. Let the man be him, not some role model on a goddamn wheaties box.
Oh but there is a THEY. I never said it was a race issue. You did. In fact it is a culture issue.
