@tarantellaonline What the Chinese army used is a type of sword, not machetes. Because of the Chinese army being poorly trained and equiped, the Chinese government hired martial artists to trained them. They were taught with simple techniques and took very short time to master. The type of sword being used is known as the dadao and it is large broad bladed weapon. From Japanese accounts, they were very lethal and effective in close quarter combat and can cut a man in half with one strike.
@AirborneDivisionLand He was brought down with just one strike from the dao, breaking his sword in the process. Swords carried by Japanese officers were primarily Shinguntos, cheap factory made sabers that took the form of the katana sword. Only a handful of swords were genuine katana swords forged by master swordsmiths. The sword the Japanese general is carrying mostly like a shingunto as a real katana sword would not break easily with just one strike from the dao.
Nothing to be proud of. The Chinese army was so poorly trained and equiped that one had to use machetes against IJA. That was not even a sword.
