the wrestler, angelheart what a legend! sorry things didn't workout before but i'm glad mickey's finally getting the recognition he deserves! when i think of cool i think of mickey!
Mickey in Rumblefish, omg the sublimity of the purity. less is definately more here and he had, me for one, totally smitten at 14, as the ultimate actor in the ultimate role, Rourke is the real deal..9.5 wasnt bad either, shame he;s become a caricature of himself.. mickey get that purity back.. and someone in hollyweird, give the guy another break...
i cant believe lipton didnt give mick any props for the movie "BULLET" it was a very underrated film, mickey and the whole cast was awesome, great movie.
I didn't expect to watch the whole thing, but I couldn't stop. What's amazing is how honest he is. If you live your live never taking risks, never making mistakes, never falling down, then what is there to measure your success against?

He totally ruined his career ... what a shame.... acting is a maturity profession like art, your skills develop as you practice. He acts the same as his young films because he is now an immature actor.
@TheDirection69 Wrong, you got it or you don't ... he's got it ! There are tons of mature actors who'll never get a gig ... has nothing to do with development ... some make it, some don't. He's got a Bafta, Golden Globe etc. wouldn't call that a ruined career. He made mistakes, yes ... we all do.
The more I learn to cope with my own mistakes the more I feel the need to defend this guy ...
@TheDirection69 Didn't you see the entire interview? He went through some serious shit in his life, which started with his fucked up childhood. You're obviously an immature fuck who has no clue what life can do to you. He is man enough to have resurrected instead of killing himself like the majority do.
@neologic6 That was very well said!!! I totally agree with you . When u hit the rock bottom you can either "check out" or stay, staying is the very hard and very courageous choice , though the demons are still there so u gotta fight them every day maybe till the rest of your life. so thumbs up for Mickey, happy he´s still around.
I liked Mickey before I watched these, now I love the guy. He's like this huge ball of sensitivity and love that was hidden underneath a wolf's clothing. He's awesome.

Mickey Rourke seems like a guy who can be a stuborn ass with a hardass facade all around, he matured somewhat but it took him a lot longer than some ppl
.
a difficult to handle unstable tough guy persona that really didn't stand the test of time. too proud , impatient and unable to see the big picture. still spiritually immature and unable to let go of the past , not the most intelligent
. but gifted , determined , ambitious and charismatic.
@fullfist yeah, the world would be so much better with just perfect people like you, who judge the shit outta others after seeing a 45 minutes interview ...
@HajimeNoJMo actually, almost every interview is edited down to fit the format, but that doesn't change my point, we see 45 minutes and judging this man based on that is just low, I'll stay with that
@fullfist I don't happen to agree you. Most people who were as troubled as Mickey seems to have been when he was struggling with drugs, his own demons, and seeing a shrink, 4-5 times a week, first off would not have made it to the shrink's office, ever or maybe a few times. They would have drifted into obscurity, and not matured, at all. He has overcome a great deal, and taken great risks. Most people could not have "matured" as you say, as Mickey has.
@fullfist And what does your comment say about you? After seeing a man sharing his painful journey and hard lessons in life, you arrogantly judge and analyze him! The very fact that he could say all that in front of a room full of peers and viewers with such awareness and vulnerability shows that he is probably superior to you spiritually and courage-wise. He is being REAL.

Excellent interview... as expected. Mickey is such a cool guy. One thing I never hear anyone mention is how the pain he's suffered in life, all the ups and downs, helped make him an even better actor. Surely that's a point someone should be making. Well, someone just did.
His performance in The Pledge after a long absence was one of the most moving I've seen, and than I asked myself how come movie business is not takeing this guy back?
I love thie guy here, but I am having SO MUCH trouble reconciling him with the smooth, charming dollface from the 80s. I mean, he TALKS totally differently. I just cannot believe that's...John from 9 1/2 Weeks sitting up there on that stage. I can't...I can't SEE that person anymore, you know?
The story and his mention of his brother makes me tear up...I have brothers and I can't imagine that scenario without my heart breaking while just thinking about it.
@POOCHDOGGY a guy his age? shouldn't HAVE fancy hair style like that. he's one of those guys that still thinks they're young and can't let go of the past.
Darren Aranfsky is highly spoken of by Mickey, he gave this great actor another chance , he took a risk hiring such an explosive charactor whose name was not one most popular, he couldn't afford to pay him but I'm sure he must have afterwards ? have things really changed much in Hollywood Mickey - . Best of luck, a fan who must confess had forgotton all about you.
@BibXcite I came back an hour or two after watching this. Why didn't he say 'people that are cruel to kids' ? People that hurt their own kids, if cruelty is the issue? He doesn't like people. Can't blame him really. Bill Hicks remarked that people are viruses with shoes.
