ANDY WARHOL IS ONE WEIRD DUDE! Warhol hid photos, newspapers and magazines, letters and books in a box located next to his working table. At the end of each month, the box was sealed and the date added. The box contents include varied items including a mummified foot, Caroline Kennedy’s birthday cake, a 17th-century German book on wrestling and drawings of 1950s icons such as Jean Harlow’s dress or Clark Gable’s boots
I don't know whether Robert Mapplethorpe sold his urine or not but Mr. Warhol certainly did. Some of them were on display at the Houston MFA about 7 years ago along with some of his equally provocative semen stains. Since he was a devout Catholic, I'm assuming the semen must have been donated.
@thoronnil Depends on your definition of "devout" I suppose. Certainly he couldn't have been TOO devout to a religion that damns homosexuals to hell. He attended church regularly, but rarely took communion and didn't go to confessional because he felt he never did anything "bad".
he did make art out of urine actually, he took vitamin b and made the factory smell awful. The only thing that a true art critic/artist could say about his work is that it revealed how context can make anything into a work of art, even if it is devoid of anything worth while (Hence, Pee pees). He was the Ad Man of the art world who knew how to make people eat shit (or drink pee...)
@jaddison1112 Just came from the Andy Warhol Museum, and saw a few art pieces labeled "Oxidation Painting", canvases painted with copper-based paint, on which he (and collaborator Victor Hugo) pissed on. The uric acid oxidized the paint, causing it to discolor.
Ginsberg was a talentless boring fuck, a dillusional looney who, like so many others, thought of himself as an artist. Only literary contribution of his i can think of is bringing Burroughs to the spotlight, and, admittedly, some pretty strong lines in Howl. Pretty similar to his buddy Warhol and the rest of the clique who felt really important at clapping at each others' failed attempts at art.
What have you done? I mean Warhol lead the Pop Art movement and was actually creative. You on the other hand, sit on Youtube stalking his videos and writing negatively about him. Failed attempt at sounding intelligent or enlightened, you come off as bitter and pretentious.
Stop projecting homez. I am sick and tired of the comment police. I will present my opinion, if you don't like it, shove it. And by the way, anyone can "create", hence the abundance of turds floating on the tortured waters of art. This is not the warhol/ginsberg fun forum, get real and refrain from superficial comments. I am unknown to you. Laters.
dude didn't even MAKE the work himself, he had people do it for him (hence, "The Factory"). and he stole the idea of repeated pop images from another artist who was more instrumental in the pop art movement than andy ever could be (Robert Rauschenberg). There is no heart to that warhol's work (except maybe his video portraits). That troll term is stupid too, I find it is a really childish way to abruptly stop a debate that you have know clue how to finish.
@firstthingsfirst88 I'd like to see YOU make THE ROLLING STONES LOGO. the only thing that Andy didnt 100% paint was his "pee-pictures" which are pretty self explanitory.
Rolling Stones Logo was JOHN PASCHE (graphic designer). But you're right I couldn't make it I guess. Color me defeated and stick a white flag in my ass. By the way, it was the velvet underground album cover that he did. By the way, do people actually do research before they post on these things, thinking the anonymity will make the ignorance invisible? Because it doesn't. Just like Mr. brainwash of recent, he has an idea and has other people do it for him.
@firstthingsfirst88 I know the rolling stones, thank you very much. The rolling stones told Warhol what they wanted, and he drew it for them. they loved it so much that they kept it. I did not look up this info I am a fan of both warhol and the stones, and didnt have to. and, for your info, i do know that he made velvet underground. he ALSO made the cover for Sticky Fingers by the Stones. they let him do it because he was so good at their LOGO. hint hint
It won't ever be finished because people like yourself will continually argue that x has more talent than y and try to pass off opinion as fact. The truth is you took time out of your life to search something that you disliked, commented on it to get reaction, and then sit back and wait for responses. That is a troll, no doubt in my mind that you are doing this for amusement. If I were to search your history, I am sure that there would be a pattern of this.
@rizla1951 Although I do disagree with your statement, thank you for presenting it with intelligence and logic. It is SO annoying when "ppl tyPn l1k d1S 2 mke there po!nt". But all of that aside, even if you don't like them, you can't deny the impressionable legacy both Ginsberg and Warhol left behind on the succeeding generations to come.
I love all these Warhol haters here leaving negative comments; they all seem to know virtually NOTHING about pop art with the exception that Andy Warhol is a pop artist, and that seems to be enough for them to rant about how Warhol and all of his fans are idiots.
Personally, though, I despise Ginsberg, and don't care for his writings one bit, and yet I'm not insulting Ginsberg fans for who and what they are.

@alanbstard4 so in short, your saying: "do your research"... with due respect, i clearly have.. there's no evidence for the peadophilia rumour on the internet, except the nambla thing. thats the argument's whole basis. and ive already explained (with a quote) why he joined nambla. also, if he was a paedophile and wanted to hide it and deny it, why let these rumours arise by joining nambla in the first place? makes no sense.. it makes no sense because its a rumour
@alanbstard4 petty insults aside, the facts are as follows. he wasnt a paedophile, and joined nambla to make a point. exact quote "NAMBLA's a forum for reform of those laws on youthful sexuality which members deem oppressive, (it is) a discussion society not a sex club. I joined NAMBLA in defense of free speech." he later quit the organization once his point was made. he didnt support them, but he did support their right to speak. peace

Again i must say that i don´t find Andy very attractive or the biggest artist ever - still: WHAT he did was very important.
And his personal life just doesn´t interest me,i can find it"amusing"but as long as he is not Hitler or Stalin or something like that his private life is of no concern for me

Hey, did you know theres a retrospective of Nat Finkelsteins work from 20th Jan - 14th Feb at a gallery in London called IDEA GENERATION. He documented Warhols Factory in the 60's. You should check it out! :-)
doubt it, maybe if you start mass producing lsd and give it away.... but if theres anything new thats gunna happen its gunna be this country falling too shit and there are gunna be ALOT of unhappy people around....
Andy was first and foremost a deviant. I've never used the word "deviant" to describe anyone else , but in his case it just seems so appropriate . He was consumed by/with himself and his neuroses which were the major part of his personality. Morbid, skin picking, pale, lifeless; a vampire really, he certainly killed his "friends' and"STARS", super or otherwise. Only Andy remained. He killed everyone around him just as surely as if he drank their blood. only he drank their Humanity.
self-hyped !! more likely authorized and well funded. His work was shit and so was he. My grandon's first introduction into art in pre-k was the work of Andy Warhol. Not Rembrant, Picasso or Van Gogh.
van gogh sucked. he never reached success and cut himself because he knew he sucked. van gogh is great because you can see the mans pain through his lack of skill. the pain was just there because he was miserable. the pain is beautiful. van gogh was the worst painter that ever lived
I suggest reading his letters. It will at least set you straight about the mans life. If you honestly believe what you say about his abilities, then you know nothing of painting. Nothing, and should probably stick to criticisms of consumer goods rather than high art.
I am not even sure how to respond to such an asinine comment. would you like to try again? I have an MFA in art history, so maybe you should revise that statement. He was not avant garde, just bad.
Let us all know where your 'art' will be in a century. Sotheby's floor? Every art history book in print? On the walls of virtually every major gallery collection on the planet? In the discussions of genuine students of human vision?
so art cant be good unless it is discovered or unless it has a high price tag? listen to urself. u just said that the only thing that makes a record good is if it goes platinum or not. think about that in relation to the past 150 years in art. think in relation to the definition of avant garde. every great artist of modern times has been A.G. this is what made them great and seperated them. your philosophy is the opposite of A.G. btw, making assumptions is a classic trait of the intelligent
You're funny.. where'd you get all that from? You know my philosophy, how? Because I pointed out that van Gogh is generally recognized as one of the most important figures in modern art, and is valued as such. You need to get laid or something. Good luck with that.
and we all sit discussing something that happened years ago, we may as well be talking about the Roman Empire. Somethings are lost and forgotten even though they stamped a footprint on what would become pop culture. Let it die, ring in the new, i`m still alive and so are you. x
God I am literally in love with Andy Warhol.

Not Rembrant, Picasso or Van Gogh.
zuesthelessor 2 years ago
van gogh sucked. he never reached success and cut himself because he knew he sucked. van gogh is great because you can see the mans pain through his lack of skill. the pain was just there because he was miserable. the pain is beautiful. van gogh was the worst painter that ever lived
lloplop 2 years ago
I suggest reading his letters. It will at least set you straight about the mans life. If you honestly believe what you say about his abilities, then you know nothing of painting. Nothing, and should probably stick to criticisms of consumer goods rather than high art.
Echsentriq 2 years ago
I am not even sure how to respond to such an asinine comment. would you like to try again? I have an MFA in art history, so maybe you should revise that statement. He was not avant garde, just bad.
lloplop 2 years ago
It just goes to show how utterly worthless an art degree is these days.
Echsentriq 2 years ago
Let us all know where your 'art' will be in a century. Sotheby's floor? Every art history book in print? On the walls of virtually every major gallery collection on the planet? In the discussions of genuine students of human vision?
Likely a landfill.. so STFU.
Echsentriq 2 years ago
so art cant be good unless it is discovered or unless it has a high price tag? listen to urself. u just said that the only thing that makes a record good is if it goes platinum or not. think about that in relation to the past 150 years in art. think in relation to the definition of avant garde. every great artist of modern times has been A.G. this is what made them great and seperated them. your philosophy is the opposite of A.G. btw, making assumptions is a classic trait of the intelligent
lloplop 2 years ago
You're funny.. where'd you get all that from? You know my philosophy, how? Because I pointed out that van Gogh is generally recognized as one of the most important figures in modern art, and is valued as such. You need to get laid or something. Good luck with that.
Echsentriq 2 years ago
Where was I talking about records? And how does the entertainment industry have anything to do with high art? You're all mixed up and backwards.
Echsentriq 2 years ago
and we all sit discussing something that happened years ago, we may as well be talking about the Roman Empire. Somethings are lost and forgotten even though they stamped a footprint on what would become pop culture. Let it die, ring in the new, i`m still alive and so are you. x
