  • hahaha .. hey guys ... i am from bavaria and i have to say the oktoberfest in munich is something real different than oktoberfest in appleton ... different food ... different everything .. and where is the fucking beer tent?? hilarious!

    but wisconsin rocks!

  • I love Wisconsin, but our Oktoberfest is a joke compared the real deal! LOL

  • Oh don't worry - plenty of beer tents. I celebrated Octoberfest in Appleton yesterday for 2008 - and managed to find every beer tent!

  • well i think i have to come to appleton and find out! ;-)

  • I work in the Tiger Paw booth

  • COOL! Can't wait to go there again this year!

  • I haven't been able to make to to Oktoberfest for the past couple years due to working but this year looks promising. Hopefully this year they will have some nice German beer instead of the normal watered down piss that most people drink at this event.

What street did they have the polka at? I'd be curious to go check that out since I'm mostly German and Polish.

  • I can never believe the crappy beer they have there, right?

I have no idea where that polka was at. I think over somewhere by the YMCA, but I could be wrong. If you walk up and down the Ave., you'd definitely find it.

  • Yes it's also called d'Wiesn in Bavaria, because the location is called Theresienwiese the name of the wife crown prince Ludwig married there in 1810 the first Oktoberfest.

Only breweries from the region of Munich are allowed to sell beer in the large tents, thus you get Löwenbräu, Augustiner, Spaten, Hofbräu, Hacker-Pschorr and Paulaner beer at the real Oktoberfest.

  • I have had Lowenbrau and Hacker-Pschorr!! :)

    Thanks for the facts! :)

  • i know the mime in this video

  • Wow. Cool coincidence!

  • Oktoberfest is actually the celebration of a a king (forget his name) getting married he wanted to have a huge party to celebrate that he found his love. The real oktoberfest in germany is the BEST!! Also the one on Hollaman AFB!!

  • Never been to the one in Germany but would love to go some day!

  • well maybe you think the beer selection sucked because traditionally there is only suppose to be one kind og beer which is the beer that is made all year just for oktoberfest.. I forget the name!

  • That's a good point! I just think having Miller and Bud Lite at an Oktoberfest celebration is slightly missing the point! LOL

  • Maybe i'll make it to the next one... which month do they hold the festival?

  • It's always held the very last weekend of September!

  • No Spaten? Franziskaner? Jagermeister? Sauerkraut? Kleisel? Log-sawing contest? Chicken dance? Not even a six pack of Becks?!

    WTF, mein freund?

  • Their beer selection is downright pathetic AND embarrassing!

  • I love going to the Appleton Octoberfest. It's insane how many people there are there but it's so much fun.

  • Yeah...its always a blast! :)

  • ahahah yummy cheese curds and bearclaws.

mann that was so fun. i was there to :D.

  • It's always a good time, isn't it? I'd say the bearclaws have quickly become my favorite! :)

  • Yea I went to the car show. Some sweet action.

  • Cool...I was at the car show the night before as well! :)

  • i live in appleton, i was at the kettlekorn place getting tons of free samples i went the night of saturday and the parking ramp where you were thats a cool spot man

  • Ha ha! Very cool! I live near Appleton but work in town!

  • Whoa, love the roof shot! Used to work in that building with the scary vertical windows on the 4th floor. Great times those were. By the way, sorry to flood your inbox with all these comment alerts. It's one of those boring nights at 3AM where I'm waitin' for the laundry to finish and got nothing much else to do, so there ya go!

  • This is SO cool that you know these locations that I'm vlogging from! It's really nice to have a local vlogger around!

As for the roof shot--that was the only parking we could get!

  • If I went there, I dont think I would ever come back home.....

  • You're not the only one! :)

  • I once ingested approx 3000 calories and 200g of fat at similar fair. We didn't have polka to wash it down with though!!

Maybe my first trip to the states should be October fest for some outrageous brownies. That was about the only venue that didn't look familiar!

  • LOL!!!

I wonder how many calories I ingested that day? Better to not think about those things! Polka party, polka party! LOL

  • It's all about the food, dude! What happen to the gym, Gary? LOL! We have Alpinefest in my home town, very simular.

  • They gym has NOTHING to do with this day! LOL

    Yeah baby! LOL

  • Haha good times!

Being german and actually living in Munich.. that was funny and interesting!

Oktoberfest is going on here right now and I hope I'll get to film my little videeo about it on Tuesday.

But that was pretty cool, I never saw an american Oktoberfest before!

  • I think its funny how NOT German our fest is! LOL

But hey, its stil a fun time! :)

I'd love to see your footage!:)

  • Hehe true true^^ But hey, I did spot some Lederhosen and Bratwurst, so it's alright^^

Yah I hope the video will turn out the way I plan it... not that there's actual planning involved (or even possible) but I had so many ideas over the past few days... and I really wanna make it a good and funny video to watch cuz all I did lately was vlogging and I feel the need to make a change every once in a while. So stay tuned, it will be on here soon (I cross my fingers^^)

  • COOL! :)

  • Looks like fun, you're making me hungry over here in Japan with all of that great food.

  • Yeah, it was a fun time and lots of good (but bad for you) food! :)

  • Oktoberfest in September? They're putting Christmas decorations out at the same time as those for Halloween in our stores right now. I wish we could have things when they're meant to be, I'd like to shop for a swimming costume in the summer! Thanks for sharing all that food, I need a snack now. Cheers, Lesley

  • Believe it or not, the real Oktoberfest in Germany is always the last weekend in Sept. too. I think its meant to celebrate the coming of October or something. Yes, that food was gooood! But x-mas decorations? Ugh. I suppose I should start shopping!

  • Answering comments now while I eat this could be classed as tomorrow's breakfast I suppose! OK if we're celebrating the 'coming' of October then it can't happen any later hee hee. Oh I shouldn't eat I'm still rolling from sailing (just posted a vid) but all that food made me feel like a snack! Cheers, Lesley

  • Cheers! :)

  • The secondary reason I always love going up to Road America in Elkhart Lake, WI, is the food. Go in the fall and the temperatures are very kind to blown and turbocharged engines, plus you get to eat all the fruits of Wisconsin's finest cornfields, cheese churns, and bratwurst trees. [ahem]

  • Yes! The fruits that WI have to offer are plentiful, and those trees seem to be just down from the deep frier plant! :)

  • good for you man, you deserve it!

  • Thanks!

  • Nice, after going through my frige and realizing I have no food in the house, watching your video made me hungry.

  • Sorry man! I think i had enough yesterday for the both of us! :)

  • Haha, it looked like an awesome time. I'm glad you got a chance to get away and relax a bit.

  • Yeah...it was nice.I had that funeral yesterday morning for that girl who's brother passed away. It might have been the saddest thing i've ever been too. So it was good to go to the festival afterward and just rewind a bit. I feel like a huge cloud has been lifted! :)

  • Wow, I've never seen so much meat in one place!

    (ahem)

Mark almost looks like he could be a distant relative to Mr. Funny.

And thanks for the shot of the yellow crocs. LOL

  • a. This coming from a gay dude....ahem.

    b. I've told Mark that he reminds me of Mr Funny and he saw the resemblance when I showed him one of the videos. He's been itching to get into my videos, so this was a good opportunnity.

    c. Glad you got the crocs shot! That was just for you! LOL

  • Looks great Gary! Has Appleton anything to do with Germany?.

I was really surprised you have Bud lite, it IS lite! Try Dutch "Grolsch", it'll surprise you pleasantly! cheers!

  • This area where I live has a huge German ancestry. A few of the local churches have their own versions of Oktoberfest as well.

I hate Bud Lite. I'm more of a dark beer/import beer kind of guy! :)

  • Aha, that explaines! cheers ofcourse!

  • Of course! :)

  • Fruitopia product placement! You need one of those beer hats. LOL @ fade to white.

  • It was not an official endorsement! LOL :)

  • That looks like so much fun! Wish they had stuff like this in the part of NJ where I am.

  • It's a pretty cool thing if you ask me! That's why i'm happy to get to it every year if i can. :)

  • OMG I am starving now!!!

It was great to see a video guest! Hi Mark!

Thanks for fun at Oktoberfest! Now I have to go watch the Vikes kick Packer butt! ;)

  • Marks one of my best friends from work. I've known him over 13 years! He and i hand out a lot and he's the one i went to Vegas with. He's been itching to get in my videos, so here's a good start.

And do you want to talk about the Packer game? Poor Vickings...

  • Yeah, pooooor Viqueens!

  • LOL

But you know what? I slept through the entire game! LOL

  • Aw, then you missed Favre breaking 2 records. That was worth watching, even if you don't like football.

  • Yeah, i know!

Oh well, every touchdown he gets now is a new record! :)

  • Looked like a lot of fun Gary. That's one of the nice (or fattening) things about this area. There is always a street fair going on somewhere - esp in NYC - where every weekend is dedicated to another cultural group - or so it seams.

  • We don't have a lot of things like that around here, so when we do, we just get a ton of ppl. I'm not sure how many ppl attended Oktoberfest, but its around 30 or 40,000. It's pretty cool! :)

  • OMG that many - that's amazing!! My town's population is only 17,000.

  • Appleton WI has around 70,000 ppl who live there. It's about 20 minutes south of Green Bay which has just over 100,000. I live somewhere in between the two. All together, the surrounding areas have a lot of small communities. Anyway, Oktoberfest is a big deal to this whole area! (Btw where i live has only 2000 ppl!)

  • Damn I thought I'd see you in lederhosen! Well, anyway, it was a great video :) You really caught the festive atmosphere... Now I want carnival food.

  • I did try to search out a little German looking hat to no avail.

But lederhosen? I don't think anybody needs to see that! ;)

  • Now how outragous were those brownies?? lol That looked like an excuse to eat large amounts of fair food and to drink.....Bud Light....how can it be Oktoberfest without lederhosen?

  • I try to get to Oktoberfest every year...and when I do, I allow myself to just eat and eat and eat!

But yes, the beer selection is less than desirable there. At least I was able to get some Guniess the night before! :)

  • mmm, German bear is real bear!!! :¬D food looks good though, where is the german food??? did I just here that you have Camera envy... :¬D always great to see a slice of your life @¬D

  • Yes...camera envy after seeing that thing...although I thought my Canon was heavy to carry around all day!

That's the thing that makes me and my friend roll our eyes about Oktoberfest...there's no German beer OR German food! LOL

  • LOL, I bet the guy had a sore sholder after filming! :¬D

I supose it is the spirit of the thing really we should be thankfull for :¬D

  • Yeah...its all about the spirit! :)

  • LOL, not the alchoholic spirit!! :¬D

  • D'oh! :)

  • That's a novel concept, Oktoberfest in September!!

I'm surprised you could still walk after all that food :)

  • Ever since I could remember, Appleton has had their Oktoberfest during the last weekend in September. And believe it or not (I just went to WIkipedia to verify) it coincides with the real Oktoberfest in Germany, held at the same time.

    And yes...oh the food! :)

  • Great video like mine with the wind in the background, on my camcorder non digital movies I add Music.

Can smell the beer-- Non alcoholic one for me

  • Thank you!

And non-alchohalic beer is always a good choice too! Join in the fun just as well! :) (That's what my 80 year old grandma will drink from time to time!)

  • nothing says Oktoberfest like Gyros!!!

Looks like you had a good time Gary- thanks for taking us along! I have the munchies now for some reason.....

  • ...and Bud Lite! LOL

The munchies? I didn't think you lived near Amsterdam! :)

  • looked ike a lot of fun and also very popular. one year I'm hoping to go to the real Octoberfest in Munich. So you ate but did you sample the lovely beer? ;0

  • I hope to go to the real Octoberfest too. That would be grand. I'll meet you there!

Believe it or not, i didn't have any beer yesterday. I had my share to sample last night (went to the same night-time version of the fest). Yesterday was just to relax after going to that difficult funeral.

  • Thanks for taking me, oh, I mean us, to Oktoberfest! Wait, it's Septemberfest if it's Sept, right? ;) I want to go to the celebration they have here this year. Every single year I say I am going to go. But never do. It's held in a hotel, not on the streets like this, which is what I would love to do. Not sit in a stanky hotel sloshing down a beer and brat to oompa music. Neato stuff!! What is that fried stuff you bought?

  • I'm glad y'all fit in my european man-bag that i could bring you along! :)

That fried stuff I bought was called a tiger paw. It was deep fried dough drenched in sugar. It had the biggest lines of all yesterday! Man, it was GOOD! :)

And yes, maybe i'll call you sugar too! :)

  • LOL! I will tell you the story of sugar. I used to go to Mardi Gras yearly and we have a friend who is a drag queen performer and "she" stated I needed a drag queen name and to think about it. Of course I couldn't come up with one, so she decided to name me... Shooga Kane. Now I want to try a tiger paw!!

  • Oooh....Shooga Kane/Ghetto Grrl/etc. you are the queen of alter-identiites!

That Tiger Paw was really good although i threw away about 1/2 of it! It was just too big!

  • LOL @ alter-identities ;)

I'm having the worst issues today with regards to video. My phone will NOT allow me to download videos (well, the program) and there's something on there I wanted to use. Then it just took me about an hour to upload something. I think it's giving me a sign...

  • The video i did on the river with the "tractormovlog" was like that. I took it from my digital still camera and none of my editing programs would pick up the sound. It took a couple hours before i found a work around (hitting play in quicktime and just recording the audio off of my computer!).

  • Gyros at Oktoberfest! LOL!

  • If its greasy and bad for you, they have it! :)

  • awesome...I must go find a snack now. :)

  • I recommend the kettle korn! :)

  • That steak sandwich looked delicious.

    glad you had fun.

  • It was pretty tastey! :)

  • That looked like fun. Too much food to sample in one day. Grease, sugar, polka overload!

  • I certainly didn't sample even 1/2 of the food I showed (I wanted too). Grease and sugar, does it get any better than that!?

  • Gyros and beer, yummy!! Kill the mime kill the mime!!! steak sandwich yummy too!! Well forget about ya diet there!!!

  • I showed another friend this video and his response was also "Kill the mime!" LOL

Lots of good (but bad for you) food today! Usually i grab a sugary Mt. Dew too and just eat as much crap once a year as I can. That's what Oktoberfest is all about! :)

  • looks like good fun, beer brats and cheese curds YUM! I Love squeaky cheese! ) it's been almost 15 years since I've been to Wisconsin and had squeaky cheese!

Wisconsin is such an awesome state for fun times. Thanks for posting!

  • You're very welcome! Although I didn't have any cheese curds today, I have my fair share of them. I LOVE them...the squeakier the better! That means they're fresh! :)

  • Fattening food, beer and polka music, what more could you ask for? Oh and a hot girl wearing a tight dirndl on your lap, whispering sweet German nothings into your ear. :D

  • You grew up in WI, so you KNOW! :)

There were a few attractive "beer maids" that I saw today, but never had my camera out in time. I never new German could sound so sexy! LOL

  • Oh that looked like a good time Gary! Thanks for taking us along. I'm starving now after seeing all that food. In fact, I'm about to make a 10:30 pm food run because of you. LOL Hope your weekend is good. -Jim

  • Thanks Jim! It was a nice time. We've had some rough times going on here as i mentioned in my last video. I had a funeral to go to this morning for a gal i work with..so this Oktoberfest was a very nice way to change my mind from that today...and a much needed good time was had! Now you got the munchies! LOLOL Whatcho gonna git? LOL

  • Gary I made the run to the store and it looked like I was trying to kill myself with junk food. LOL My basket had pizza, ice cream, cookies, chips and diet coke. The diet coke will offset all the bad stuff wont' it? LOL

  • Ha ha! I don't know if you noticed in my video, but i had a diet pepsi with that steak sandwhich,. After eating that deep fried tiger paw, i told my friend mark that the diet pepsi should offset things just fine! Makes sense to me! LOL

  • Oh goodness, I can smell that kettle corn now! Mmmmm, love that stuff! :0)

  • I'm munching on the kettle corn right now! Yum! :)

  • I am soooo jealous! heehee

  • Yummy yummy! :)

  • That looks so fun!! Wish I could of gone! I love kettle corn :D What was that big round thing you were holding at 3:15?

  • Hey there! That round thing was called a Tiger Paw. It's basically deep fried dough covered with sugar. It was AMAZING! :)

  • Looks like a great street fair, and Rolling Rock is nice on a hot day, but it ain't Oktoberfest without German beer ... And suddenly I'm hungry for a BBQ steak sandwich and a bottle of Spaten Optimator!

  • Yeah, I'm a german/dark beer kind of guy...so for them to have rolling rock and bud lite on tap seems quite unacceptable. Oh well. Luckily they have many other flavors to my liking that i took part in LAST night! :) *hic*

And just watching my vid makes me MORE full! :)

  • WONDERFUL!!!!!! that was one of your best videos to date!!! you had FUn!

  • Thanks Jazzy! It was fun to make! I'm more of a vlogger by nature, so these are always fun to do from time to time. And yes, we had a good time! :)

  • First! hehehe!

Brats! That's the best thing about Octoberfest! Save one for me! LOL!

Hope you had fun! (looks like you did!)

    *hugs*

  • Living in WI, brats seem to be a normal part of our diet! They have NOTHING to do with ONLY Oktoberfest! LOL

  • This is true. They are an essential staple of tailgating! haha!

In Bucyrus, OH, they have a thing called BratFest, and alot of the brats are made locally.

Excuse me, I have to wipe the drool off of the keyboard! LOL!

  • Yes...they are a standard for all of our summer BBQs too. Good stuff but so bad for you! :)

  • Gimme that naughty cholesteral! ;)

  • But it tastes SOOOO good! :)
