Anyone ever notice how Irish ballads and songs are always so very sad? Gotta go with Chesterton here... "The Irish are a men that God made mad. Their wars are merry, their songs are sad." (Paraphrased.)
Uh, isn't it kind of insulting to the memory of their loved ones, how easily they let go when they realize where they're going is supposed to be paradise? I mean, you don't see people going around saying "Osama's dead, all the 9/11 victims and those who gave their lives for the war can rest in peace. Let's Party!" I think someone like that would be backhanded the second he even thought of saying that.
@VGAfanatic I see where you're going with this. I'll point out that the song's showing how they've suffered such losses that they've one thing that keeps them going through the tough times like we all are doing now - hope. The mice have hope for a better life then the one they have known growing up, having a dream of a life free from the bad. We each have our own hope of overcoming so much, having a dream, living from the bad. And without good and bad how would anyone be able to tell them apart?
@taurusgirl65 It is always important to have hope. And, though somewhat unrelated, hope is made come true when a helping hand comes to their aid. Like America to foreign immigrants for a promised land and one of opportunity, or the millions in donations we've given to the countries and people who've needed help; the children in Africa who yearned for food and education, Japan in the time of their massive disaster, and even the long battle against breast cancer. Hope and Help go hand in hand.
@VGAfanatic You are right. And healing too. No matter what happens in life we all need to have hope, help others and ourselves and learn how to heal. Just like Danny Kaye says in one of the songs from Here Comes Peter Cottontail - in the puzzle of life, hope is there listen close and you will find it.
@VGAfanatic And I think in a way they ARE celebrating the memory of those they love with each other just like some people who celebrate a person's life on their birthdays and when they die. Every person does things to remember loved ones in their own tradition or custom.
@taurusgirl65 That's true. I mean, my family talks about my ancestors with my grandparents very frequently, and the funeral of one of my dad's closest friends was just last year. They were sad that he was gone, but we remembered the good times and got a few laughs out of nostalgic stories. Same with my great grandmother. There were less tears shed because she lived to be 101, and we were glad to have her company all those years. We had more laughs there, because we remember the joy we shared.
@VGAfanatic I'm glad you got to know your grandmother and God bless her for living a long and healthy life. And God bless your father's friend. I will say prayers for you, your family and for your grandmother and father's friend.
I just realized what fifels father said. "when I heard him screamin I fainted dead away, and I woke up an orphan..." Oh my god! That is.... really sad. o_O
I love this song. I recently went to Universal and they have a Fivel play area for little kids. I had to fight myself to not go and play in it, but I did sing this song the entire time I was there.
They just don't make animated films like this anymore. On the other hand, Don Bluth's vision was always a unique one---no one ever made films quite like his.
I like the Irish mouse's part the most. Now as I compare to other types of music, I realize again how much I love Celtic music! Ofc the whole song is great, best of the whole movie! Bluth ftw!

Why would an Irish mouse be on a boat that departed from Hamburg, Germany?
Ireland isn't even on the main European continent. He's at least have to depart from Bristol, U.K.
