The Earth has a mechanistic partner so at some point of development we exceed the moons mechanism characteristic and then vicariously alter the Earth's. So the question becomes how large will our future expansion and development be? Giving an immediate debate of whether developing the moon is shortsighted.

It's not really about global warming. Even without global warming, our oil will run out at some point. It's about peak oil. It's about Solar Power Sats and not needing to wreak additional havok on our environment with nuclear and coal power.
