I never heard this specific one before, but it sounds nice, and you played it very smoothly. Still, I can sense an Egyptian touch in it, and I would say it has a little flavor of the gulf music. By saying that, I must have united the Arabs. What a beautiful dream.

sikah is a maqam that is played throughout the Middle East including Iran, Turkey, Azerbaijan, etc. Sikah is probably the most widespread maqam in the middle east (perhaps after bayati).

I totally agree. Its just amazing how the Sikah note changes the whole flavor of a melody, and distinctly yet smoothly allows it to stand out.

if you meant the rhythm, then i guess you are right about that. But my impression was the maqam is what made it sound egyptian rather than the rhythm.

well, as they say perception of music is highly variable from one person to another. Culture, mindset, emotions, personal taste...etc. all play a factor. So in other words, reaction to some melodies lies within the listener's taste.
