  • Can you make a video about taking photos in a concert and club situation?

    THANKS and I subscribed

  • Look at Drake! Lol

  • DUDE!

I want to photograph you with a tight suit and HUGE sunglasses and put it with sepia with some vingette!

    wow!

  • Hm why does cropping ruin the quality? Does it like make stuff bigger? It might zoom in but I think it keeps the same resolution.

  • Lol I know a professional photographer who's in a wheelchair.

  • i cant open raw files on my laptop, i have to convert it into Jpeg and when I do that, it shrinks into less than 1MB. What should I do? I know RAW is better.

  • How do you get RAW?

  • @sparklingbeautyyx u go click the menu button on ur camera, and then u mess around in there until u see image format. Select RAW.

  • @golfman90 I have a powershot sx10 though, will it work for those?

  • @sparklingbeautyyx if its not there, try checking out your settings, it is around the menu area. and once u get there, just select image format as RAW.

  • great guide!

  • Great Vid. I am planning to buy a Nikon D5100 cam. should i get the 18-50mm VR kit with it or go for the body only and save for a 50/f1.8? It would kinda be used for photoshoots. And later used to shoot portrait and landscape when we tour other countries. Thanks! keep posting more vids.

  • Really great tips! I started out with the D3000 about two years ago, great camera for starters and again, awesome tips.

  • *quite angry*: YOU HAVE FEET! =D

  • dude i love you

  • thanks this is really helpful! btw, what is a good camera that not too expensive? i love photography but cant really afford one thats too expensive:(

  • Nicely done, Jared. Simple, well explained.

  • I love photography but im 15 and have no money I bought fujifilm finepix s2950 with my christmas money I love it I know its not a DLSR but its a start. You are cool and I sub you!

  • All im missing is the lens, good! Although the kit lens im gonna get on my nex are not that bad! right? compared to my crappy point and shoot.

  • Nice man! I love your videos by the D3100, because I have one.

  • do you like canon???

  • I'm a noob, with a D5100. I got it for about 500$ cheaper, so decided why not get it. But how do I make my DSLR shoot RAW?

  • I only bought 2 slice, but wheelchair......

  • Looks like Charles Trippy with a fro!!

  • my thoughts on this after a few years of shooting:

1 - disagree to a point. i shoot RAW+JPEG, and only use the RAW when i absolutely need it to tweak / adjust a shot that looks wrong in the JPEG. otherwise, JPEG is done.

    2 - agree.

3 - sorta. bodies get replaced every 2 years. lenses stay. however, FEET are not the same as ZOOM. completely different effect. zoom is like cropping, feet are for changing perspective.

4 - disagree. only do it if needed. don't waste time in front of a PC.

  • Marry me.

  • Hello Mr. Polin! Thank you for the informative videos! What inexpensive, digital camera would you suggest to a hobbyist (me) that loves taking nice pictures?

  • Fantastic! You're a great help!

  • What do you feel about the 18-270 mm f/3.5-6.3 Di-II VC Macro Lens?

  • attitude:duechebag, no subscription

  • ...5 ppl dont have feet

  • @njgamer19 no, 5 (or more) people understand the difference between feet and zoom.

  • i <3 youuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu

  • Very Happy I found these on You tube. Just bought the D3100 and starting to learn...

  • always helpful!!!!

  • Im planning on buying the D7000 for my first SLR ( I have the $). I'm also planning on shooting Real Estate/weddings and mainly for fun . what do you recommend I should buy as far as lenses and equip; ? ( I also checked out your photos eg. Houses and wedding) on Flickr. Thanks Man

  • Hi, this is my first post on net hoping it is answered. I have S1065 samsung point and shoot camera. No, i cant change to DSLR since its very expensive. Yet i want great great photos :) now please give me lots of tips to bring life to my pictures. As i cant see colors in them(since i cant capture RAW :'( ) I want to capture wonders. Please guide.

  • Hey I'm running a NIkon D80 with "AF-S Nikkor 18-55mm F 3.5-5.6 GII ED" how is that lense compared to what you mean by a GREAT LENS?

  • Whats the difference between Lightroom and Adobe Photoshop camera raw? I edit my raw files with open in raw. Is Lightroom better?

  • fro is sitting by the rules of third?

  • hi Jaredpolin thanks for the awesome t shirt!!!! now I can be officially your fans LOL all my friends who like photography told me how awesome the T shirt are, and im preety sure they will check your channel someday

  • @JaredPolin Dude if I shoot RAW should I put the image at large or small? :/ I only got an 8GB memory card and I'm using a D3000.

  • Hmm... Why does an advertisement about hair extensions pop up? :3

  • Hi! I'm having a hard time focusing on the eyes of a subject, with my D60 + 35mm 1.8. I set the camera to AF-s, place the focusing point on the eye and without recomposing (so I don't mess up the depth of field), press the shutter release and I end up with a focused nose and a soft eye. Any idea why this is happening ?

I really appreciate your feedback, since I got this lens a few days ago and I'm afraid it's faulty.

  • love da fro. the HD defines it greatly. anyways, useful tips as i am a beginner that just got a nikon d70s with a 28-80mm lense! will be busy watching all your vids.

  • are you GOD?? lol thnx bro.. =]

  • heheheheehehe you just made MY DAY :) love your humor and info of course! thank you for making the videos

  • Dude you are hilarious, and very informative. I almost died laughing a couple times at the wheel chair and at the Wayne Gretzky parts. Thank you for all your information.

  • the wheelchair part made me subscribe!thnx for sharing m8!

  • @anestakos83 thanks.

  • @JaredPolin hey i don't want to have to buy many lenses...isn't there one great lens that is great for resolution, high HD quality, great AF, image stabilization, etc?

  • @anestakos83 Wheelchair part is hilarious ... made me subscribe as well !!!

  • I ROFLMFAO'd at the Wheelchair part :D

  • You should insure your hair for thousands. Would hate to see anything happen to it.

  • Haha I'm self taught photographer and there were things said in this video that had me smacking my forehead in disbelief that I had forgotten some of the basics. Wow how embarrassing.

  • "better glass is going to make you happier" so true!

  • My english is not the best and i´m pretty new ate the photography, but could anyone tell me what is the "crop" thing? What doest "to crop" means? does it means to "cut off" things of the photo by editing it??

  • @fujimeira hi there! Cropping a photo is "cutting" one or more sides of the photo. Here I found a video about cropping in Photoshop: /watch?v=xmjSaJiNpj8

  • @alfonsocuiti

    Thank you very much!

  • One thing you should crop is your hair

  • ok, I have an F1 canon and in transition from film to dslr. I am torn apart between Canon D60 and Nikon D7000. What would you suggest?

  • omg roflmao ur hilarious dude "if you don't have feet you have a wheel chair" actually you handled that situation perfectly to keep the hater away =)

  • Hi, what do you mean by apeture?

  • They want to see your mad skilz as a photographer, not at photoshop. I can teach a chimp to use photoshop.

    Buy bodies, INVEST IN GLASS.

Forget about Program and Auto/Scene modes. You won't learn a damn thing with those.

  • Please some advice, what memory card should i get? not size but most dependable one but something that wont break the bank.

  • Hi Jared what do you think about canon povershot sx210 is?? :D

  • YOUR HAIR IS LIKE COTTON CANDY HEHE

  • Lol your comment about feet and a wheel chair made me lol irl! It was a "why the fcuk did I say that" moment!

    Love your vids btw

    Andy

  • Having Photoshop and knowing how use it, why would I want to switch to Lightroom?

What are the pros and cons?

    Thanks!

  • Hey Fro please Pm me or something I would like to know how to add signitures to my photos....something like CJ's Photo's in the corner (i know thats generic) or something. What software do I Need and is it expensive??

  • Life. Saver.

  • As I was watching this I noticed you used the rule of thirds.

  • is the Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 II lens a good lens??

  • I swear, every time I come across a beginner's guide video I always find myself bored and some of the information doesn't stick into my head. But you sir, are lifesaver. Thanks!

  • im a fresh rookie with no expirence in photography what so ever but ive always wanted to be invovled in art whether from drawing and glass blowing to culinary but im a good cook but no too good at drawing and live nowhere near anyplace that teaches glass blowing....and i feel so compelled and fascinated with photograpgy and being able to capture time and light ..anyways what would be a good camera for a complete novice??

  • @hashishclay d3100 is a nice start.

  • @JaredPolin is d5100 also good for a novice?

  • @JaredPolin d50??

  • @JaredPolin if i have 500 for a camera what should i buy ???

  • @JaredPolin I bought a d3000... I made good choice to started?

  • I have a Nikon P100 ... any advice? I dont think lenses are made for it. I am also kind of camera retarded, so ANY help would be much appreciated.

  • @Mrjjgreene If you're going with fixed 2.8 then prime lens would reduce the cost dramatically. Also, it depends on what you want to shoot? Portraits or landscape? For portraits, I always suggest 85mm 1.8 or 1.4 depending on your budget. Why 85 over 50? Because sometimes I don't like to be in my client's face when taking portraits. I like to keep my distance. But Jared is 100% right when he says, go with 2.8 or better and def avoid kit lens.

  • I wish all my photography teachers can be this straightforward

  • hye jared.. i planning to buy canon 60d (body) next week .. can you recommend me what lens to use.. but not so expensive.. i'm so newbie but fall in love with photography year ago... never use dslr before....thank you

  • i just got a nikon d70 and ive had it for about a month. I shot raw for a few photos, and when i put it on my computer, it couldnt read the file

  • @willcitoman97 You need a raw file viewer in order to see pictures taken in raw. Google raw file viewer and download the software. It will allow you to view your raw files. You could purchase lightroom which will allow you to edit your raw file and convert in jpeg for you after the edit.

I have taken a lot of pictures with D70 when it first came out.

  • Sx210 or fz45 image quality?

  • Do the 35mm 1.8 lenses work great with moving objects?

  • i love your hair!!!!!!

  • Hey, I'm new. I just bought the Canon Rebel XS, are the stock lens okay? I don't have the money to buy new lens yet .

  • hey jared i just buy a nikon d80 because y did not have a lot of cash and actually because y find my dads nikon n90s with the 80-200mm 2.8 ed, the sb-26 flash and the nikon 28-70mm they both have a u.v. filter &i also have a bogen tripod so i said i like Photography soy what is 400$ more and i get a good camera.

P.S if you can make a vid of how should i use an take excellent photos with the camera i will appreciated.

  • Hey, im going to buy my first dslr camera... What do you think about the D3100+18-55 KIT... btw, its the d90 with 18-105 much better, or what do you recommend to me, im a beginner... i have some good photos, but with the common digital cameras... cant control aperture of shutter speed things like that... Thanks...

  • good fun to watch and this guy really knows his stuff only one question im sorry to admit im not Nikon man..im going with Canon so you do anything for canon?

  • good fun to watch and this guy really knows his stuff

  • I really have to ask you something about the lens part and I really hope you will answer me. What do you think of the stock lens of the D3000? I am planing to buy one , it will be my first dslr , and I really don't want to make mistakes like that , because I am really short on money and will make a lot of effort to get that money for the body+lens kit. Is it better to buy just the body and other lenses at about same price? Thank you in advance

  • @alexutzro13 never buy the kit lens i always say that.

  • im deciding between 50mm 1.8 and 35mm 1.8 which one???

and what would be an affordable zoom lens preferably up to about 200??

  • @PurpleChowMein i have a 50mm and i absolutely LOVE it!!!!!!!

  • @jazziefee haha got it myself too and its great! but sometimes i wish i had the 35, 50 is just a bit too much at times

  • I need to ask...What was used to shoot this video...dslr or hd cam....lense...etc? I love the look of it!

  • @PriTheHoneydark all are shot with the d3s and various lenses.

  • @JaredPolin if i am just starting out with photography what woulb be a good camera to use!

  • whats RAW ?

  • Ok, got it

    1. Shoot RAW

    2. Don't Crop

    4. Have Feet

    3. Grow a Fro

  • What would you recommend for someone who can't really afford Lightroom or Photoshop for editing photos?

  • great advice but there is one thing that i have to say. cropping....i agree with you saying shoot it the way you want it so you want have to crop in.but what if you do shoot it right and you look close enough to see another photo that can be made from it? ex. bride and groom having a moment and them smiling...great shoot right? but what if you just want the lips that make a nice photo as well....you would crop it in right? but yeah man your pretty sick better then my mentor but ssssssh!

  • @MahdFliesHigh i personally would not crop in i would try and capture that during the day.

  • Wheelchair part is priceless :D

  • Wheelchair part is priceless :D

  • excluding the autofocus feature, is a 35mm better than a 50mm?

  • @mikkiseva The wider on the DX will be a little better on the dx cameras.

  • do you necessarily need a viewfinder on a camera for photography

  • @Nellz25 I think its a must have.

  • am i high or does that guy have a kickass afro

  • hi i have just enrolled in the photography school hve a nikon d90 but i dun know much ABT it im trying to learn frm ur tutorials can plz do a tutorial on how to adjust apperature, shutter speed n iso pleaseeeee ur help will go a long way....i jus hve the eye n passion to shoot but technically im on ground zero

  • why a 35 than 50 or 50 than 35 prime lens thank

  • @willonce I recommend the 35 1.8 as it will autofocus on all the cameras where the 50 wont on the lower end cameras.

  • Greetings

I've been shooting for sometime now and I usually shoot for my school during events and stage shows, but I usually shoot stage shows. I always shoot at JPEG Fine because I'm not that into post processing and I'm the kind of person that likes to get it right on the camera the first time..... but lately my buddies have been telling me to shoot raw and I was wondering since your advice is also to shot raw, I was wondering do you have any video or tutorial concerning post processing?

  • @9unslinger On the web site we have a ton of lightroom videos. Remember its not about getting it right in the camera that makes jpeg not the better choice in my opinion. There is a lot of work in the camera that has to go into getting the right settings for jpeg such as sharpening, color saturation, white balance and they all effect your final image and are locked. In RAW you can control those things post.

  • @JaredPolin THX A BUNCH^^

  • @9unslinger anytime

  • Hi I'm shooting for my school concerts stage play etc...I always shoot in jpeg fine because I seldom do post processing and i don't like it that much and because I'm the type that likes to get images right the first time. But lately all of my photo buddies have started shooting raw and are persuading me to join them.....So, I was wondering do you have any videos or tutorials regarding post processing of raw files? (btw i shoot with nikon) Thank you for taking time to read this post.

  • Hey just wandering do you have any videos regrading raw editorial? cause I'm always shooting concerts for my school etc and I've been using jpeg fine because just the thought of shooting in raw and the post process work scare the shit outta me....hope you can help and thanks for taking the time to read and reply

  • just got my 1st slr cam(nikon d3000) but got no idea on how to use it..i keep on watching your videos..dont you have videos with demo in taking pictures?

  • hey :)

    im buying a d3000 with a 18-55 lens (to be specific its a D30001855KIT (: )

is that good for a starter kit thing :)

    Thanks :)

  • @Trazor123 the camera is a good start but not the lens. The lens does not let enough light in thus why i recommend a 35 1.8 or spending a little bit of money to pick up a faster lens like a sigma 18-50 for 420 bucks. Well worth it when just starting out.

  • i hope you weren't serious when you said that you tossed your negs away

  • Good stuff man. Keep em commin'.

  • Hey man... I have a question for you. I bought a D300s a few months ago, and I am trying to get a lot more serious with photography. Right now my only telephoto lens is the ultra-cheap 70-200mm lens that I had with my D40, so I was planning on getting the Nikon 70-300mm VR II lens. HOWEVER, now I am thinking of getting the SIGMA 70-200 f2.8. There's no way I can afford the Nikon f2.8 for a very long time. What do you think?

  • @sexualburgerking There are a few options, you can look for a used nikon 70-2000 vr 1 which would be a little over 1,000. The sigma wouldnt be a bad way to start but if you can stretch it and find a vr1 id go with that. There is also the nikon 80-200 2.8 which sells new for around 900. It is a slower focusing lens but still a great lens.

    I hope this helps.

  • @JaredPolin Thanks a lot for the tips!

  • Fro knows Best :)

What happened to Granny Fro? :)

  • Thanks for posting this, I bought the d3000 yesterday and I'm getting it tomorrow =D (with the kit lens because at the moment I don't have the money for a better lens). Its my first DSLR camera so I'm completely new to this, I've been reading the maunal online and I feel like everything is in a different language Lol.

  • @krystle5391 Congrats on your first DSLR . Any help you need please feel free to drop me a line.

  • @JaredPolin Thanks! =]

  • Thank you

  • Great video. Thanks again.
