  • Fuck SOPA.

  • This song is the badassness.

  • Their singer sounds like Paul Masvidal from Cynic quite a bit...

  • @igotwoodhaha Not really.. Paul has more range and better projection. Yet, their high range is quite similar. I've worked with Paul so I know his range.

  • I love this song, but I'm gonna say that the lyrics don't form coherent phrases. haha

  • Esta cancion es de la putamadre!!! (This song is of the bitch mother)::... Do not use conventional translators...even though this song fucking rocks! U dont need to smoke some weed to get high...

  • cedric and omar have never known failure

  • Good ole, Mars Volta. Brings back memories.

  • such a great tume! mars volta are just amazing!

  • whats the drummers name?

  • @rbuchalter33 Jon Theodore was the drummer for this album. They chop and change their drummers all the time though, think they're on their 4th or 5th now.

  • @NaeJoy jon was their best one huh?

  • @rbuchalter33 yes

  • @NaeJoy Are you sure Jon Theodore was the drummer for this track? When the chorus hits, those cymbals sound like Pridgen's stacks.

  • @Brinemusic you must not know alot about the mars volta if your asking that question. 100% sure its jon

  • this is reallly catchy haha xD

  • I read somewhere that 'deloused in the comatorium' was a concept album made after their friend, who was in a coma, committed suicide because life was mundane after what he had seen while comatose... so the lyrics would tend to be a little funky if that were true?

  • the mars volta is the reason i stopped listenin to rap for a whole year....undeniably the most creative ppl to ever come togethr...long liv TMV!

  • @Watermellin Yeah...That's what a shit load of free time and easily acquired hallucinogens will have you believe...

  • I LOVE THIS SONG SO FUCKING MUCH

  • Hey let's all read into shit that isn't there and then act like condescending douche bags when someone doesn't know what we're talking about - OH looks like you guys are already doing that. Cool.

  • I honestly don't care for the lyrics. I just go for the mood Rodriguez and Zavala create via their music. Eriatarka is actually one of my favorites because imo it's so freaking mercurial. The shift in Zavala's vocal pitch and the tempo of the guitar seem to do justice enough in conveying the message.

  • This song gives me a boner.

  • me hace bien

  • @muesliisland this version is better!!!!!

  • guys, juts burn a joint... things will be better, and you'll be able to really apreciate this beautiful pieace of music... if you're some kind of right-religious-republican-head, go to sleep and leave us alone

  • Masterpiece

  • I LOVE THAT GUITAR TONE AT 2:08 OMGGGGGG SO SEXYY

  • aren't the words about the singers friend or brother dying of a heroin overdose

  • @sk8357 thats the theme of the whole album, not just this song. this song has a much more... obscure meaning.

  • @muesliisland

I got to know the band hearing the original version and when i synced my ipod to my friend's computer one day, I got that version of this song, and also televators was very different. This bothered me endlessly because I think this album is perfect and it sorta ruined a big part of it for me... much prefer this ver :)

  • #themarsvolta2011

post on twitter. its a Volta revolution

  • I think its safe to say that this is the greatest thing ever. It must be everyone's favorite song, even if they don't know it yet.

  • Love it.

  • im in love with the gutair...

  • DENSE AS FUCK!

  • bass line at 0:53 is so beautiful

  • this song actually gives me the chills.

  • 23 pendejos no conocen 1 pene de buena musica

  • I haven't read all of the comments, so forgive me if anyone has already mentioned this. While I'm not sure if there is any deep meaning to every lyric, I don't care to look it up because I just give a shit if it sounds good. But there is an amazing story behind Deloused.

  • Haven't listened to this song in about a year, forgot how amazing it is.

  • FOLKS

you don't need to decipher anything,

is not the highest form of art one that is non-static,

one that allows the recipient to emotively feel the song while

allowing a million deep meanings to be evoked over and over again?

  • So dude, Im trying to form this ONLINE band, and I've come with some people who gave me tips but no solid member, if youre interested listen to one of the tracks I released on my channel...its kind of a galactic sound to it.

Listen and tell me what you guys think!(IM NO BOT, I SWEAERRRRASRARASDSA PEOPLEEEE :ALKSKSDJA:LSKDJA:SLD ) Bow/chika/bow/ow

  • @muesliisland

I have that version as well. Actually I have some of Deloused's songs in that "8-bit-sounding-thing". I've downloaded it by mistake. It was probably how they took the songs to the recording room...before the "magical brush" with all the production and mixing or someone just had the work to put it in 8-bit format. I have Eriatarka, Cicatriz ESP and This apparatus...

  • hes obviously talking about aliens does no one see this? the way he forms his words its fucking amazing and artistic you cant look at each line individually you need to look at it with a general perspective, and i love the way his words flow with the music. He sings and says something and the music fills in the blanks

  • @SamaelTePersigoaTi amen. but somehow their sense of humor shines through. Especially Omar, he must realize how ridiculously extreme his music can get. Also, Im so happy these guys are getting their due. I remember back in my early highschool days passing out copies of Deloused and Frances to my friends just because I had never heard music this intriguing, and luckily I managed to convert a few of them. thanks for taking the time to reply to my comments.

  • @SamaelTePersigoaTi nah, Im a staunch atheist and that level of criticism has been around for a while. Regardless, I respect Cedric immensely cause what he's doing only ppl like lenny bruce, carlin and now recently most fringe comedians are ballsy enough to do. Thats why, flawed as it is, Amputechture is one of the best and definitely the most visceral of their records. Its comforting to know I have a talented artist whom I admire on my side.

  • Jon Theodore = LEGEND.

  • @SamaelTePersigoaTi I don't blame him, tho religion has become an easy target during the past few decades. so, if he's not saying much new at least he's doing it in totally unique ways.

  • @SamaelTePersigoaTi huh? the kafka reference is a bit unwarranted just cause he differs so much from Cedric in terms of style. The transformations, the grotesque and all the gruesome shit they totally have in common, but otherwise I don't know why you're connecting them when it comes to their clarity and delivery cause to me theyre miles apart in that regard ( but then again I haven't read every single work by either of em.) Point me to some good shit and shine me a light.

  • @SamaelTePersigoaTi Im not discrediting his work,. Did you read the part where I said these lyrics will go over the heads of most casual listener and that they dont make sense to those who dont spend the time to understand them? you're preaching to the choir here.

  • @SamaelTePersigoaTi I know this. whats your point?

  • well, their lyrics dont make a shard of sense unless you take the time to decipher them and thats something most casual listeners arent willing to do, and thats fine. Not everyone needs to be part of an esoteric cult they can call their own to fill whatever hole that needs filling. But I kinda did. Sad to admit but there have been times when Cedric's crazy obscurantism has driven me to pull out my dictionary and dissect his bullshit for hours on end. Higher language? No. Dense as fuck? right on!

  • @TheGoldenChile Cedrics vocals are meant to be thought of as a sort of guitar track where the melody is more important than what he's saying. Listen to the song again with that in mind. Imagine replacing the tune of his voice with a guitar part.

  • @NaeJoy I know. Omar and Cedric have both often said that his role is basically that of a melody maker but that doesnt exempt his lyrics from scrutiny. Don't get me wrong, I love the Mars Volta and i love Cedrics gorgeous vocals and his lyrical tapestries, my comment was directed to those who put too much emphasis on their words, exalting them like tomes of enlightenment or shitting on them for being so cryptic. I dont care much for lyrics, but Cedric's bizarre shit deserves some attention.

  • @NaeJoy please,some1,try to make music of your own

  • @NaeJoy I completely agree with you. I think Cedric' s voice is part of the instruments and the lyrics are not the most important part, but rhyme and metric are important to make part of the song.

  • @NaeJoy Damn right im glad a band actually focuses on the melody of the vocals rather than just lyrics, if we wanted lyrics we'd listen to poetry xD

  • @NaeJoy where did you hear that?

  • @TheGoldenChile write a book dude

  • @MrCotopaxi oh cmon, I know I waste alot of words but theres no need to get sarcastic ; )

  • @TheGoldenChile i find it commendable you arent content to remain lyrically befuddled- if everyone had that veracity for knowledge wed all be better off! dictionaries rock!

  • @jfrog324 lol, information is getting to be so pervasive and cheap that its only a matter of a few generations before religion, anti-intellectualism and the general wide-spread ignorance of our biology and history will become a thing of the past. I just wish I had been born some five hundred years from now.

  • @jfrog324 lol, information is getting to be so pervasive and cheap that its only a matter of a few generations before religion, anti-intellectualism and the general wide-spread ignorance of our biology and history will become a thing of the past. I just wish I had been born some five hundred years from now.

  • @TheGoldenChile Dude, so maybe you can explain to me WTF "infareco regrets" means? I get nothing of this song but it's still onef my favorites. I thinkI'll be happy if I just get that one line.

  • @TheDocserge hahahah. I have no idea! Infareco must be a portmanteau word I bet, since Cedric is fond of littering his lyrics with them.... and there you go. Start with that. If you actually find all its possible interpretations then just imagine how good youll have become at researching!

  • @TheGoldenChile They're the epitome of art school kids. The lyrics make sense as a whole, but the sentences can be a little obfuscating.

  • @sugarpillguy right. but to be fair all their broad assertions about religion, drugs, reality etc.. can be dissected if you put everything into context. yeah, I realize I just reworded what you said but bare with me lol. The lyrics are inherently inscrutable because One, theyre secondary to the music, Two, Cedric uses a myriad of literary devices, styles, languages, techniques to mongrelize his art, Third, who in their right mind would sacrifice their time finding all possible interpretations???

  • @TheGoldenChile actually, a lot of the lyrics dont make sense because he is drugged up, and like NaeJoy explains, they are meant to be another instrument. So you can do all the deciphering you want, but it will always just be your opinion of them

  • @LukeRygh1221 Do you know what the song and the record is about? Their friend who played keyboards in At The Drive i Attempted suicide by injecting himself with rat poison. It didn't work, but his hands and arms were damaged(rat poison attacks the nervous system). He spent ages in a coma. The record is meant to be his journey thru that time, so sometimes he is semi conscious ini bed and other times he is off journeing around his head. It's a tribute album to their pal in other words.

  • @BlowDeBloodyDoorsOff thats partially true, their sound producer Jeremy Michael Ward comitted suicide via overdose and this whole album is about a man going into a coma, wandering around this made up world, and then when he comes out of the coma he commits suicide.

  • @LukeRygh1221 yes, everything you explained I was somehow clever enough to find on wikipedia years ago. And its also true that what I expressed was my personal opinion (regardless of how informed it is). Thanks for clarifying for those of us silly enough to overlook that fact.

  • @TheGoldenChile I looked into this as well and he has said in interviews that his song writing is never intellectualized, that he often chooses words for their lyrical quality alone. He sees words as broad tools and takes liberty to give the song an overall vibe.

  • @SuperTrancend He's lying... there's no way he's going to talk about what he's saying about organized religion.

  • @TheGoldenChile casual listeners of mars volta are casual thinkers. mentally lazy people can go fuck themselves with a foreign object, probably a book. you really have a hard time thinking about what his lyrics could mean? my mind paints a picture for me as i hear them sung, right away. im sorry your brain sucks

  • @sansdeity420 You sound like an idiot.

...then again you could be trolling, I hope so.

  • @sansdeity420 Wow, I wish I could be so cool!

How awesome would it be if I, but a simple Plebe, could sit atop a mountain as you do, and look down on all others with such contempt and smugness, all by my lonesome...

Care to enlighten someone so far beneath you? I haven't really put too much thought into the lyrics. Also, how do I insert that book into myself? I was never taught how.

    Thanks Broham :)

  • Love this song. How did this not get VEVOed?

  • @muesliisland I think you have the summer deloused demos.

  • I'll never forget hearing this song for the first time. I had to collect myself afterwards.

  • I saw these guys a few years back in Austin. They were FANTASTIC. They had no opening act, were about an hour late, but played the most amazing 3 hour set I have ever heard. It was the experience of a lifetime. I just wish AtDI did a little bit more lately.

  • Stung the slang of a gallows bird

    Rationed a dead letter pure

  • klinkt als Erica Terpstra

  • Have you guys read the book?! wow! "De-loused in the Comatorium" google it or whatever you use...

  • I love this band! Can someone recommend me some other bands like this?

  • @mrice102888 Another newer progressive band that is very unique you may not have heard of is Porcupine Tree. Check them out.

  • @openyourmind888

Porcupine Tree is one of the greatest (progressive rock) bands out there. Along with Coheed and Cambria in my opinion. I'm getting into The Mars Volta more and more.

  • @mrice102888 I searched for Porcupine Tree and couldn't decide which song to listen to first, so I clicked on "Trains." Wow. Just wow. I think I have finally learned that there is great music outside of metal. Thank you for the suggestion!

  • @muesliisland I literally wasn't being sarcastic or anything, just saying the content of torrents isn't always good quality. It's possible that its an alternate recording though because TMV have a few alternate versions of some "Frances the Mute" songs.

  • @muesliisland Possibly because it's a corrupted and messed up illegally downloaded version?

  • I still like Cedric better in "at the drive-in"

  • i remember that mars volta rocked reading comments on a sounds of animals fighting video

  • thats beautiful

  • @iciousvid. Just as I suspected another very stupid, childish statement. Man, Mom jokes went out in like 89' Or maybe you are a comedian. Either way, I am not angry with you for being a dumb ass! in fact God bless you! have a great day!

  • @HDoss70 this is fun.......

just like the time god sold jesus' ass to satan for meth..... or was that part omitted from the bible. : )

  • @iciousvid. That was probably the stupidest fucking comment ever. Whether a band is the best, etc...can NEVER be more than conjecture. As far as God: EVERYTHING around you suggest his existence.

  • @HDoss70 your moms box suggests otherwise!!

  • @HDoss70 so a child being raped than cannibalized shows his love for the child?

  • did that just happen!?!?

  • They had me at "The Mars Volta".

  • The mars volta is the greatest progressive rock band in the universe = FACT

    God Exists = UNPROVEN

  • @iciousvid The correlation being?

  • Okay, I've never gotten high before, but I imagine it feels a lot like listening to this

The Mars Volta kicks major ass. Love these guys.

  • Personally, my favorite part is "evaporated the fur, if you only knew the plans they had for us."

  • This song always get's people at "trackmarked amobeas landscraft..."

  • yeah. what WolfenSpeak said.

  • The fact that the words "don't make sense" in the usual way people expect says so much about how lyrics are used in the Volta. Sound is a higher form of language, so the words serve the melody and the emotion of the song rather than pushing you to a logical meaning. I think it's a really stimulating to have lyrics focus more on pure texture of sound and abstract meanings rather than pushing you to a logical meaning that you expect. It makes the song have such emotional power, as you can hear.

  • @Lateralus63 abstract art. its having the tools and the capacity but going head first into a place neutral, being completely unbias, almost like a kid in a sand pit..and creating a moment. no limits or rules for channelling energy =, the vessel, the tool, the body and mind.

  • @Lateralus63....thats why abstract art exists, its being able to to have the knowledge and dexterity yet being barley conscious of it, a labrynth of miopic momentary scarifises purely for being the chosen vessel in that moment, the slave for art

  • @Lateralus63 definitely could not have said it better myself. thank you.

  • 21 people didnt felt the msuic(;

  • Holy shit, I have NEVER in my life heard music that makes me feel like I'm high as hell while I'm completely sober!! This is orgasmic for my ears :)

  • @kecola Welcome to the world of the Volta. It's been hard for me to listen to anything else since I discovered them back in '02.

  • @kecola Obviously haven't heard Pink Floyd. ;p

  • @kecola .....now listen to it high.

  • I tried mushrooms for the first time the other day, and this shit came on... converted mars volta fan for life. What a wonderfull mind fuck. There really is no words to describe what I felt listening to this so I wont even try

  • There's only one bad thing about this video.. It doesn't go straight into Cicatriz ESP.. :(

That's hurtful to the ear after listening to this album so many times.

  • The perfect intro...

  • Conclusions I've made listening to/reading about TMV and other artists, and humbly attempting to craft some tunes m'self (no knowitallism intended!):People say that TMV's lyrics are incoherent gibberish, and I think that's true and untrue at the same time, to varying extents. There are likely two ways they come up with it: Writing stuff that makes sense to others and turning it into "gibberish", or playing off of the "mood" of a piece of music and spouting gibberish that they feel fits the mood.

  • @Skepios It's not just them spilling ink and publishing it as far as I know, as I think Omar scrapped an entire album because it was getting boring and the project needed rethinking. They care about their work and as such care about how they do it. The lyrics, at one point at least, made perfect sense to them either in a literal sense or a emotional/musical sense. Many artists put "masks" on the meaning of their songs to create a sense of tension, or to make it more interesting/thought provoking

  • @Skepios I would challenge commenters to hit the bong and write a legible paragraph, or an english major to do a line and write a half decent poem, or TMV to smoke/shoot/drink or whatever, start a jam session, record it, and like it in the morning if they make it that far. People don't get genius from doing drugs, that's a horrible misconception. Musicians who already have some genius in them might smoke/whatever and look at a topic in a way unusual to them and recreate the altered vision later.

  • @Skepios ...But they don't get magical powers from taking a hit. Any ideas they had were already there, getting high was just a way of accessing it. Not the only way or the best way, and they don't hotbox their studio every time they press record. Long before cocaine and LSD and heroin existed, geniuses were still making excellent music with fewer tools at their disposal than artists have today (Pachelbel, Mozart, Beethoven, Bach, etc are often considered musical geniuses and made superb music).

  • @Skepios So I apologize for the rant, but I think the songwriting process gets played up/down too often, in TMV's case it's not drugs doing the writing, it's not a god doing the writing, it's not an algebraic formula or a recipe, regardless of the method it's just intelligent people who give a damn and wanna have fun and make some music :) And please correct me/rate me down if I'm wrong, this is just what I've gathered from interviews and a tidbit of experience. Enjoy their yummy sounds as I do

  • @Skepios You make some excellent points about songwriting, but this long of an argument belongs in a forum, bro. I totally agree with you though.

  • @ZeppelinFan122 Thanks :D I know it was pretty long, I just don't like the sound of some of the comments about TMV on youtube. Some of them applaud TMV's drug use or encourage others to try using drugs to make better music or make listening to music more enjoyable. I had a lot to say about that so I couldn't stop myself. It was past midnight when I wrote that stuff though, so maybe that had something to do with it. Thank you for your comment :)

  • Beauty through Sound...

  • Congrats Mars Volta you are now on my i-pod.

  • @GodleeisBeasT Get this whole album if you haven't already.

  • @FA9082 I totally agree. I listened to this song all thetime in my freshman year of highschool. Helped for some reason, but it IS their best.

  • @dillerd19 Could not agree more i still cant listen to this song without constant goosebumps especially around 2:05 it almost makes me cum.

  • This is their best song.

  • I keep getting back to The Mars Volta. This still sounds so fresh after all these years.

  • First time listening to mars volta, ive been blown away. This is the music of the modern age! YES!

  • This is the most beautiful song ever. They are so talented<3

  • @adamwood0808 oooooohh!! lol lol that makes much more sense XD

  • @adamwood0808 ..........WHAT?!?!?!?!?1?!?!?!1/1

  • can i haz my soul back please ....

  • This song has no meaning.

  • They picked random words out of the dictionary and put them into verses, this song makes no sense.

  • @MyLacesAreOut if you knew the story they are telling with the album, this song would make sense.

  • Allan Holdsworth is still alive, as are John McLaughlin and Stanley Clarke and... many many others... these guys are nowhere near the best musicians around.

  • @KingCrimson776

no they are not but as a band they r competing with all of them and i would have said mahavishnu not mcluaghlin hes nothing without

  • @lyriclyintent Tell that to Miles Davis who gave McLaughlin his start. Not to mention McLaughlin does have plenty of good solo stuff, but I was talking solo musicians here, not bands.

  • Fucking amazing song.

    'nuff said.

  • @bbetances

No silly, that's just a speedball...which I'm pretty sure the dudes from this band used to be down with.

  • 19 people was not de-loused in the Comatorium.

  • This song is fukin insane

  • @bbetances

yea. and your point is? you think this album was made because of dope?

  • @cerpinvismund i agree i dont think there drug use should ahve anything to do with how u view

there music . without the drugs this prolly wouldnt be what it is u should thank them for useing

op's and crack while writing music that u love i know i sure do

  • awesome guitar part and effects. Omar is a genius

  • seriously, TMV is a drug. <3

  • Whats the name of the album? ._.

  • @iZurdoh De-loused in the Comatorium XD its their best selling abum apparently and first LP

  • @iZurdoh De-loused in the Comatorium.... XD.... Its their best selling abum apparently and first LP. Its really good though , Well i love it

  • @Preciado6 Thank you. :) i must go buy it now.... :DD

  • q buena rola!!

  • well, they actuallly legitimately smoked crack during the production of this album. ITs true, and crack is the new acid. If u dont believe, ask them in person. So their shit is so much more legit, if uve ever heard a album released from artists who were on crack, then ur a god, because this is the beest album ever

Listened to it for a year straight, no other artists, no other albums, and still love it. you motherfuckers that get emotional or stoked on it are >me. this is not a human creation.

  • @ces9991

They did smoke crack during this. They smoked crack in At The Drive In. Cedric + Omar = Comar. Pronounced with an S. But even still, they are very intelligerent, creative beings. And no, to be this ridiculous is unhuman. They are Spanish/Puerto Rican gods. I'd pray to a Comar statue if I had one.

  • wait, are these lyrics legit? i'm in love with the mars volta but what the hell are they smoking to make them come up with such nonsense words?! i want some !

  • MUY BUENA ROLA!AMO THE MARS VOLTA! LOS MEJOREEEEEEEEEEEEES

  • Best TMV video so far on the 'Mix! Thanks for the disengaging visuals! Now I can get back to work!

  • yeeea it can happen.

  • These guys should be more popular. They are so talented.

  • @tixer4 I agree but isnt it funny how the some of the people who are not talented are the ones who become famous while the ones with the actual talent are left behind (welcome to the music industry)

  • @tixer4

Mainstream will only destroy the volta

  • this song is good to fuck to!!!!!!!

  • i don't listen to anything new and i thought i would give this band a try..at first i didn't like it..but when it got crazy..that's when i liked it..nice music

  • This whole album is goosebumps

  • i miss the old days...

  • I just lov
