beautiful whale. im sure he loved his five years of ocean instead of a concrete bowl. captivity is morally wrong. there is some good to it, but not for the whales.
Who cares if the owner of this video is cap hater or not!! Its about Keiko here!!! I'm watching this because i love him not because i want to see orcas in captivity!!! And This is from a movie actually! The first movie keiko played in :)
I'm not anti or for anything like this but one thing I will say is;If orcas had never been in captivity I think they would be extinct now because they were getting killed like no tomorrow years ago.
Dont give all the thanks to the marine parks, because the first ever wild orca documentarys came out in the 60's and were very popular, plus an overall change in attitude to animal welfare in general. so it was probably a combination.
Even if the parks were to thank, we know better now, we know they are not suited to captivity. The job of the marine park is over.
Your very right. Chances are if the world never saw dolphins like this and became so attached to them, already threatened orcas such as Residents would have been long gone by now..before we knew they were gentle giants, the NAVY use to go out and kill them. THE NAVY! That tells you how SeaWorld changed peoples' minds on them. And according to hateseaworld, they aren't suited to captivity. News flash, all wild animals aren't. The job of zoological facilities is not over and never will be.
@PapaOlsen Yeah I know. Keiko was the orca that got me into them and he was a captive Orca so If he had never been in captivity,I wouldn't even acknowledge these animals. If "hateseaworld" really did hate seaworld and marine parks, don't you think the user would have put videos of them in the wild? But no it's orcas in captivity. If the user really did hate seaworld,she/he wouldn't put videos up of them.Videos=fame..Fame=money for seaworld, which mainly is used for the health of the orca.
Several of my video's feature wild orca, as well as my other channels
And as for not drawing attention to seaworld - how can you educate people to a cruelty without talking / showing people things and SeaWorld is not about the health of the animal but about money.
Jim Antrim, a SeaWorld vice president -.”If these animals perished, you'd just go out and replace them. The ease of replacing them didn't drive a great deal of research of what they needed to keep them healthy.''
errr, no. You obviously havan't watched all my videos. Such as the one with experts commenting about captivity being bad or the ones about SeaWorld being responsible for the Taiji slaughters or the ones that show dolphins and orcas at SeaWorld showing stess or bordom behaviours or the ones showing SW catching wild orca or read any of my comments or the links I gave to my anti cap pages or the videos I've liked or the people I'm friends with or....................................
@hateseaworld Well you're not going to change anything about it..Like I said I'm not against or for,but by uploading videos of Seaworld you are simply advertising it.
Im not uploading videos of just seaworld, there are parks from all over the world in my videos. And how do you know I'm not going to change anything, do you know how many people have contacted me saying they will no longer go to a marine park, and thanking me for the videos, huh?
Surely you're smart enough to realise that by exposing the bad stuff these parks do it not advertising.
@hateseaworld Just because it's on YT doesn't mean it's the world. You know seaworld can make sick children feel better? They see the orcas and it makes them smile.Your opinion isn't the whole worlds. They aren't going to stop because people on YT said so.Look at Lolita, people protested for her and they haven't done anything about it and that park isn't know where near as big or commercial.
"Your opinion isn't the whole worlds" - I know, otherwise I wouldn't be protesting would I. duh.
"You know seaworld can make sick children feel better?" - then you have not read the scientific reports about seeing / swimming with dolphins makes no difference to a sick child compared to other thearapy, such as swimming or stroking a horse.
"Lolita -people protested for her and they haven't done anything about" - then why are the government being sued for mistreating her?
Plus, it was seeing a killer whale in captivity that made me an anti-cap. I have been to these parks, and I hated them, and guess what, almost every anti cap I talk to says the same thing.
But in captivity ALL adult males have had a flopped over fin and some females. It is caused by spending too much time at the surface. In the wild floppy fins are assocciated with sickness and affects a tiny percentage of animals.
@hateseaworld No one knows why Dorsal fin flopping is caused. It's assumed to do with sickness or injury in the wild, but we're not sure. In Captivity it's still an assumption about time at the surface. It could be a number of things eg swimming patterns. Oscar had a very straight fin for a very long time but it all of a sudden started to go, Valentin, Ikaika, Nakai and Inouk's fin's are still very straight, but Valentin's is starting to lean.
@IAmADalek They're starting to think that it has to do with the weight of the fins vs the pressure of the water. Since tanks don't go as deep there isn't enough pressure to hold the males fins up.
Lolita and CorkyII have huge dorsal fins and they spend a lot of time at the surface. Corky's is as straight as a board and Lolita's only leans the slightest bit.
@agluva4ever keiko was returned to the wild though. In the last few years of his life he was essentially wild, though he stayed near human harbors where he was rehabilitated. He never did join a wild pod of whales. He died of pneumonia.
Orcas don't do very well in captivity. However very few orcas have been kept captive. It was also their captivity that changed the public's view of orcas and led to a lot of their protection in the wild.
@agluva4ever oh thats true!nowadays he cannot be released to the wild..too much time in captivity. Man have already destroied his life!! captivity is cruelty, animal abuse, and kills STOP that NO MORE MONEY TO THE DELPHINARIUM AQUARIUM dont SUPPORT that ABUSE!!
@redbowtie Keiko was "released" that was the worst animal abuse I've ever seen. Some of the things they did to him to make him "wild" were ridiculous. Keiko should've stayed at Oregon where he was actually healthy. The moment he went to Iceland he had issues to do with his health. He was on Anti-biotics until he was shoved out of that crappy net bay, they still swam and dived with him up until he was 'released', he was still fed by hand. It stinks of animal abuse.
In a report published about his release, it says that he used to travel with wild orcas for several days at a time, was seen hunting with them. He was seen with marks associated with mating and stayed the same healthy weight until he died of a common disease. He only sought out humans after the other orcas migrated away with the fish and for some reason he decided not to follow them. He would have been fed and cared for again all winter until they returned - hardly abuse is it
@hateseaworld And it's complete rubbish. He'd lost loads of weight. He most certainly wasn't involved in a pod of orca's let alone mating with Orca's. He was so very unhealthy when he got to Norway and so damn hungry he raided Salmon Farms. Leading him out with their boat and leaving him behind is abuse, staying at the bay and ignoring him whilst he hung around is neglect. Pumping full of anti-biotics and leaving him to it is neglect. They experimented on him. Abuse.
Just because he has rake marks DOES NOT mean he was mating. Do you really think Tekoa is getting it in THAT much? Ulises is spotted with rake marks often, is he mating? Nope! I bet a billion dollars he never got it in out in the wild. Rake marks in the wild = whale getting laid. Rake marks in captivity = animal abuse!!!
Keiko did not thrive on his own. He spent days searching for human attention and care once again. It's a scientific fact that his release was indeed a failure.
@IAmADalek thats true its not safe at all released an orca after all those years! but I think dead its better than in pool(jail) especially for an orca. Captivity must stop...the animals now in parks needs to their life in pools or maybe a bigger sea-pen and after that no more mammals stolen from the WILD.
As I didn't film it, I cant stop you from using it. It's from a Mexican film called Keiko En Peligro (Keiko In Danger) that came out before Free Willy did. In it Keiko plays an alien creature from another planet who is dying from the earths pollution. There is some other footage in the film of him that I didn't include in this video.
