Saying goodbye to a great town was and still is a tough thing. Augsburg treated me right. Closed the gates in 1998 and moved to Bad Aibling with the company; something never forgotten.....moving as far away as possible from that flag-pole in Darmstadt! LOL. Brothers and sisters in Arms, ditty-boppers, I will hold you in my heart. joe.B.
I was In Augburg from 1983-1986 at the DCA communications station on Reese under the tower. They blew up the tower and are clearing Reese and especially Sheridan for public park land.
Thank you so much. I was stationed at Sheridan with the 1st & 30th FA from 1983 to 1985,Building 125, best time I had in the Army. The memories I have of the kindness of the German people and the friends I made there will be with me for my life time. I only wish I could have revisited Sheridan. This video will be the closest I will ever get.Thank you again. Auf Weidersehen Sheridan.
Thanks for posting this. I was Air Force stationed on Flak from 1983 to 1985. I loved Augsburg. I lived downtown when I lived there and wished I could have stayed.
I lived in Augsburg from 2006-2007 as an exchange students.I saw one of the old bases which is pretty much has nothing now except a nigh club i know of. Traces of Americans are pretty much gone as far as I saw. Coming from a Navy family, this was pretty neat to see the old base!!
I visited the Augsburg American elementary school as a guest when I was also at elementary school in 1992. Unfortunately now more and more traces of the American vanish :(
olknight, I was a dependent there from 1990-1994. I was only in Kindergarten-2nd Grade, but I remember my time there well, it was a great time!
The same thing's happening at Leighton Bks in Wuerzburg, where I went to high school. The base closings are so sad, I bet just about everyone who's been lucky enough to get stationed there feels the same way.
Wow thank you. I was stationed towards the end 1997-1998 at Sheridan Kasserne.. Best tour I've had in the Army. I frequently return to visit from time to time.
THANK YOU for posting this. I was a dependent in Augsburg, Germany from 1970 through 1974 and was in Munich from 1975 - 1978. I loved my time over there, and I truly enjoyed the German people. I have extremely fond memories of the place and the people.
Watching this made me choke up. I'm so very sorry that no other dependents will ever have the experience I was privileged to enjoy in Augsburg.
I miss my school

I was stationed at Flak Kaserne in 75-77. I haven't found anything on Flak Kaserne but it is cool to see the others that I had been to many times.
