I have this album. Have you ever wondered how many times you have bought the same song? Album, 8 track, casette, CD, computer download....gets costly. I recall cassettes with a single song on them also for like one or 2 dollars each.
At :49, a live local announcer usually added (with appropriate superimposed graphics), "Available at Woolco's, K-Mart, W.T. Grant, Almacs, and other fine stores...".
I recall these Lp's and 8 tracks in the mid to late 70's. Ronco was especially good at promoting HUGE artists on their sets but the songs were very edited. It was almost like a sampler of sorts (a 2 minute version of Piano MAn - Billy Joel... LOL)
@kfirmedia Being french, I've only heard of those Ronco compilations, living in France. I wonder what they were like.Even Kurt Cobain did mention a Ronco record set called "Good Vibrations" that his parents owned (3 record set or something).

@kfirmedia Hahaha! You got that "sample edit" stuff right! I finally caught on one day, back in the 70's, when I taped enough of those K-Tel beauties to fill the A side of a cassette and only found it 2/3 used when I was done recording!
Paul Anka? Pure Power? Sheesh!

Record is $5.99, the 8 track is $7.99. I can see another reason why 8 tracks died out. It cost 2 bucks more!
Cassettes existed alongside 8 tracks. All someone had to do was to buy the record, then record it to cassette so it could be played in the car.

0:28 - But...they spelled Diana Ross' name with two (2) "R"s.
Apparently K-Tel didn't have a spell-checking department.

@floppy2121 Looks like two Ns to me.

It's all vinyl or 8-track. They hadn't even invented cassette tapes yet?

You would be correct. That is what I was thinking too.

K-Tel International is still is business, 'big'; but they don't market vinyl albums or 8-track tapes these days.
fromthesidelines 2 years ago
I wonder if K-Tel changed their name to "Now That's What I Call Music" - it's essentially the same thing. Pay money for someone else's mixed tape.

I wonder how much money K-Tel made in the 1970's? This is another phenom that is uniquely '70's!

They could afford the rights to the all these hits but they couldn't afford to spell Diana Ross's name correctly!
