CO2 is a TRACE GAS taking up 0.038% of the atmosphere. It is absurd to assert that it has any effect whatsoever on climate or temperatures, unless it has an impossible absorption rate.
If you look at the multi-million year history of the earth, you will know these cap and trade guys are pounding sand. Right now, the CO2 levels are about 350 or so parts per million volume. They are sounding the alarm because it has gone up 10 points or so in 300 years. But in earth's ancient history, levels have been AS HIGH AS 7000 PPM, well before coal, cars, factories and humans! This is a MAJOR SCAM to empty our wallets! Search it yourself, earth CO2 levels, historical.
Maybe planet Earth won't look much the worse if CO2 levels increase, but we are a species that has adapted to this particular environment. In fact, using carbon fuels, we have over the past few centuries been able to increase the world's population by the billions. If the environment changes, Earth won't care, but we will: our way of supporting ourselves might be impaired and our coastal areas could be struck, perhaps causing billions of deaths.

@imax1971Contrary to what you've just expressed, cap and trade clearly IS one of the most effective solutions proposed for global warming because it is economically based. By associating environmental costs (which we currently don't give thought to) with economic costs (which, given the economy's downturn, we care about ALOT), it will effectively reduce both. It lowers taxes for companies that go green and creates new markets, taking polluters out of business and thereby reducing CO2 emissions.

Let's be honest? Cap and Trade will decrease pollution as far as what the US puts out. It will do so by makeing most things unafforable to the poor and lower middled class where they will not buy as much and use as much fuel/ energy. The true middle class and up will not experience much of a change in lifestyle at all.....and not much will change overall anyway because all the companies that move to China and abroad will just shoot carbon out over there instead.

CO2 is a TRACE GAS taking up 0.038% of the atmosphere. It is absurd to assert that it has any effect whatsoever on climate or temperatures, unless it has an impossible absorption rate.

If you look at the multi-million year history of the earth, you will know these cap and trade guys are pounding sand. Right now, the CO2 levels are about 350 or so parts per million volume. They are sounding the alarm because it has gone up 10 points or so in 300 years. But in earth's ancient history, levels have been AS HIGH AS 7000 PPM, well before coal, cars, factories and humans! This is a MAJOR SCAM to empty our wallets! Search it yourself, earth CO2 levels, historical.

Maybe planet Earth won't look much the worse if CO2 levels increase, but we are a species that has adapted to this particular environment. In fact, using carbon fuels, we have over the past few centuries been able to increase the world's population by the billions. If the environment changes, Earth won't care, but we will: our way of supporting ourselves might be impaired and our coastal areas could be struck, perhaps causing billions of deaths.

Hate to have to bring that up, but the dedicated "green" people will take any little mistake you make and use it to try to discredit everything you say. There is NO confirmed link that CO2 is causing any climate change. Plant life actually benefits from it. Plants produce oxygen... This is just a ploy to get more money out of us and reduce our standard of living even further. They charge interest to the federal government for 100% of the money loaned when 90% of it is "created" out of thin air (never existed except on an accounting sheet). If I believed that C02 was dangerous I might agree. All life forms on this planet are dependent upon C02 b/c we are all carbon-based life forms.
If we're going to cap emissions, those emissions should be TOXIC emissions. Old dinosaurs made the oil we use, it's the things man adds to the gas mixture which create a problem, so these things should be regulated. OH: The planet IS getting colder. Buy warm weather gear b/c it's going to get a hell of lot worse, and soon. (See solar flare cycle).

Global warming is caused by mankind's usage of fossil fuels, which add CO2 to the environment that isn't incorporated into the carbon cycle. It resides in the troposphere and absorbs IR at 4.26 and 14.99 microns. It has caused about half a degree of warming over the past 30 years.

Yeah, it's called weather. Short term 'noise.' It happens every year. Every year we set hundreds/thousands of record lows. But we set even more record highs, and when you compile the data over a long term baseline you yield a warming trend. Look at warming/cooling anomalies worldwide:

The correct facts. UK yields in 2008 - Barley up 10% , Wheat up 7% Oats yield down 13% and potatoes 7%. UK temperatures are rising steadily and significantly. The climate is wetter, warmer and with more turbulent wind events. Flooding, a problem for farmers, is now an annual event as rainfall increases. Get your facts right.

It's interesting to me that President George Bush, Sr. signed a cap and trade bill on the emissions of sulfur dioxides, that this legislation worked to reduce over all emissions, and at a fraction of the cost of outright regulation.

Oklahoma congressman said that one study says that even if the whole world where to stop producing carbon it would only reduce global warming by 1 onehundreth of a degree, so that really not going to have any effect at all on global warming. During the 90's we had very high amounts of Solar flares which raised Earth's temp (slightly) and since 99 they have been reduced and guess what the N.E.
