@TrevRockOne I would like people to avoid split infinitives (such as can be found in "learn how to properly use musical terminology") but it's very unlikely to happen.
@Caleb9849 Regardless of the relative merits of my sentence construction, the meaning of what I said was clear and unambiguous. When someone erroneously refers to an instrumental composition as a song, they are espousing an ignorance of the definition of everyday words -- clearly my peeve is a much more pressing matter.
And, I'm just curious, how would you have constructed my sentence to avoid the woeful split infinitive.
@TrevRockOne I think you probably know this, but I really don't give a damn about your split infinitive; I was being sarcastic. The meanings of words change with society. Yes, the original, strict, literal definition of "song" is something that is "sung" (which is why one is derived straight from the other). But in society the word "song" has come to mean "a musical composition of pretty much any sort," and it's far from the biggest of problems with the English language today.
@TrevRockOne lolwut? "Song" has come to mean any piece of arranged sound in what is commonly referred to as music. Stop being so pedantic and nit-picky by espousing archaic, outdated definitions and just enjoy the damn song.
@heksagram00 You have to sit on you ass to play a drum kit, silly. And actually, I do know how to create music. Uranium Belt's debut album will leave Lars Ulrich scratching his stupid little Danish head. Much like everything Pain of Salvation released. You really think Lars could play Fandango? Or Nihil Morari? NO! He Couldn't! So, how many festivals is YOUR band playing this month? Just to reiterate: FUCK METALLICA! Especially that no-talent phonics monkey Lars Ulrich.
OH you think you are better than Metallica? Don't make me laughing. How much fans do you guys have? A few ugly rural girls? How old are you, you offend the icon of music because you sit and play drums?? Yeah, you are great ;|
@heksagram00 Well, your handle on English is pretty good, but its off just enough that this came across as more comedic than anything....And I like Metallica, don't get me wrong. Sorry, allow me to rephrase: I like the Black Album and earlier, the rest is just BAD. And the point that I was making was that Pain of Salvation is infinately more talented than Metallica. I also belive that I'm a better drummer than Lars Ulrich, but what's a drummer without an ego?
@heksagram00 I's just 2 different bands. Both in style, and in chronology. Yes, sad but true, the "old band"'s inspiration went away some years ago. Personnally, I never managed to hear St-Anger completely so horrible it was ...
@heksagram00 I's just 2 different bands. Both in style, and in chronology. Yes, sad but true, the "old band"'s inspiration went away some years ago. Personnally, I never managed to hear St-Anger completely so horrible it was ...
@heksagram00 LOL A bunch of fans does not make a band great. ANy commercial mainstream band can get lots of fans because that is all those fans get to hear. Metallica died when Cliff Burton died, they are just another mainstream cookie cutter band that has given up creativity for money. Talent and song writing are all that matter. That, unfortunately, is lacking in mainstream.
@koret7 Wtf? You proofed that you don't know shit about music. Daniel Gildenlöw is a genius. I like Metallica, too, but Pain Of Salvation without doubt has far better musicians.
@koret7 go listen to Diffidentia, Handful of Nothing, Scarsick, Used, or Cribcaged and come back and tell me Metallica has any chance of outrocking these guys. Metallica was good. key word is was there. but the reason true metal musicians hate them is because they are a punk band. listen to Lars play and tell me how creative he is truly...hmmm...it wouldn't take much to show Lars up on set. I'm a guitarist and i sound better on a drumset than Lars does.
i agree so deeply with u... i cant stand people that when they hear about metal, they expect to hear only loud, trushy guitar riffs and brutal vocals.. this song has an inner power! an obvious sentimental outburst... it is dedicated to a dryad by the way.. sth magical! a nymphe...
@imberbs so I have to admit I have some difficulties to find a sense in what you just said... if you don't like a song, it doesn't mean that's not music. you idiot. just say that you don't like it. fuck.
aaand.... surprise: this band is a METAL band... how do you take this shock dude?
open your mind and you'll find wonders all around you...
@pixytale Hey man, don't be so aggresive! I know this is a metal Band, so... sorry for but it's not a surprise. I consider myself to be very open-minded and I never said that Metal in general was bad, I just think that sometimes, and it's the same for other music style, if it's too "hard", too "noisy", I (and I say I, you don't HAVE TO agree with my statement) have some difficulties to recognize the beauty of a song. That's all. It's just as if I told you I had difficulties to eat bananas...
@imberbs hahahaha yes, u r right, sorry for be so rude. but u see, my real problem was actually just the fact that u were excludin' metal from music, I was really upset only about that.
@jorninorion Some people just do not understand music for what it means to the soul. They dont listen, they try to find words or lyrics that they can relate to, music being unimportant.
Pain of salvation is the best band i've ever heard. Or... i know... it's so close to the best bad ever... they are so full of meanings... and so intense and so good at playing... i just fucking love them all. Long life to them.
the section that first appears at 1.30 it sounds sooo much like stairway to heaven, i think they might have been aiming to make a similiar type of song by the way the sections progress
Wow!! What have I missed? Ashamed to say I just stumbled upon Pain of Salvation. Heard them mentioned a couple of times but never really listened to them properly. Time to do that now.
wow yeah I imagined I was running through the woods in complete darkness and then I came to the end of the woods to find beautiful mountains reaching to the clouds :)
No one had uploaded a cover on youtube to this song, I think I should cover this song with my band, although we lake a keyboard player, we have 2 guitars so we should be able to get the main ideas.
I just hope we'll get those dynamics right... they make this song magical

the song is best IMO from 3:20 and on
danielalien 4 years ago
My opinions is actually the exact opposite, I think that the first time when that lovely melody comes on is the best; 1:28 that is.
And after 3:20 the song gets pretty monotonous, but that is just my humble opinion :)
