  • Match Game was the funniest game shows of all time...best show next to TPIR...

  • best game show EVER!!!

  • "This is Johnny Olsen speaking for Match Game '7*! A Mark Goodson-Bill Todman Production! Stay tuned for Tattletales, next over most of these CBS stations!"

  • hey does any one know where i can get this game show to download or buy i love it so much.

  • @matchgamelover -iTunes. That's where I found my version of it for my iPod Shuffle :-D

  • love your rare b&w photos of the cast & set, neat to hear this entire song go through!

  • This theme is far superior compared to that 1990 version. Yet another reason why the 1970s version of Match Game was better than the newer versions.

  • New ringtone.

  • @g0forthethroat Thank you very much!

  • 1,974 LBS.

    Denton, Texas

  • one of the greatest theme songs to one of the greatest game shows ever. thank you to Gene, Charles, Richard, Brett and all the fabulous stars for hours of entertainment. I started watching the show because my dad loved it. I always think of him when watching it. (rip dad) my wife bought me the box set.

  • How I love game shows like this during the mid 70's through the early 80's!

  • I love this show, especially this song. I try to watch as soon as possible when I get home fro School.

  • @dagdogg my bad

  • 1:49 this pic is from Pilot B.

  • R.I.P. Gene, Brett, Charles, Scoey, and last but not least Johnny Olson

  • @Cramhead43 Wikipedia says Scoey is still alive and well at the age of 81(born March 12, 1930)

  • Bring back the freakin 70's!!

  • Ooh, I wanna have waist length hair & wear wide leg pants with some high heeled boots just to dance to this.

  • She thought her waterbed was too soft so she filled it with blank!

  • I can still hear my dad yelling out his answer to the TV and getting mad if theirs didn't match. Couldn't they hear him??

  • Dumb Dora is so dumb........

  • @03Crazy HOW DUMB IS SHE!!!!!

  • @AaronBruceLadner

She is so dumb that by the time she graduated high school, she had (Blank).

  • R.I.P Gene Rayburn

  • ughhhh this song has been in my head all day.

  • This damn song played in my head for months.

  • charles nelson reilly to block. wait - hollywood squares. never mind.

  • if gene rayburn was alive today he could be the raw gm. he could definitely improve that show.

  • I was not born until 1982 (the year Match Game ended) but watching it now I can get a little taste of the decades I missed.

  • Very '70's sounding. Love it! Possibly the best theme ever. This and The Rockford Files!

  • Gene Rayburn's sense of 70's fashion and style is absolutely spot on! It is equaled by no one and exceeded only by Mr. Richard Dawson! Both true gentlemen in every sense of the word!

  • Unadulterated porn music right here.

  • The only reason the Price is Right did so well at 11 AM was because this was on at Ten Thirty!

  • match game was the best of all time

  • Loved watching them drunk bastards!

  • R.I.P. GENE

  • @newman20072008: AGREE WITH YOU...

  • I'm 15 and even I think this theme and this show was epic

  • Get ready to match the stars! Gary Birghoff, Brett Somers, Charles Nelson Reilly, Fannie Flagg, Bob Barker, and Donna Pescow. As we play the star-studded big money Match Game. And now, here's the star of Match Game, Gene Rayburn!

  • @jomar500 Loved Johnny Olsen

  • what about richard dawson?

  • Back in 1973, the show Match Game '73 Pre-Empted on CBS was "Hollywood's Talking" with Geoff Edwards. Did anyone remember that show?

  • @Jiltedin2007 I remember Geoff Edwards; & Gene Reyburn....

  • @Jeff50562 I do too! I was only 10 years old back in Summer of 1973 when "Match Game '73" came in place of "Hollywood's Talking". I was so sad about it back then because it was during a time when I started to fall in love with Geoff Edwards and the Game Show. Hollywood's Talking was an awesome Game Show, and it was also made you think very hard for the answers. Once upon a time, a man named Alan dominated Hollywood's Talking to the tune of $13,000.

  • "Get ready to match the stars! Nipsy Russle, Brett Summers, Charles Nelson Riley, Fanny Flagg, Richard Dawson, and Beddy White! As we play the Star-Stutted Big Money Match Game! and now here's the star of Match Game, Gene Rayburn!"

Ok, I don't know if Johnny Olson ever did an opening speel exactly like that, but still...

  • @DorvellTStewart : yeah he Johnny did; & U did it like him too... Where have all of them days gone?? Hate it when the best goes on us....

  • GSN needs to bring back the 1990 Version of Match Game, hosted by Ross Shafer.

  • Really cool ^.^

  • Wow! This brings back memories of when I first began to actually watch tv shows, way back when I was a toddler.

  • one of THE best themes ever made

  • 2nd best gameshow theme

  • I was just thinking of Match Game earlier today, especially Brett and Charles.

Gene, Brett, Charles - you are missed, my friends.

This theme song still brings back memories of the craziest and greatest, in my opinion, game show ever. Thanks for posting, friend.

  • <3 Richard!!!!!

  • Charles was also HooDoo on Lidsville and Jose Chung on The X-Files.

  • Comment removed

  • Charles is also voiced as Dirty Bubble in Spongebob in 1999 -through his death

  • Don't forget Richard Dawson.

Loved Gene and his infamous microphone..RIP Gene

  • Brett + Charles = show made of win

  • Match Game.

The best celebrity panel game show hands down.

  • Charles is such a funny man

  • This was the show that pre-empted Hollywood's Talking back in 1973.

  • GO CHARLES!

  • STILL love this synthesized theme! I was a contestant in '76 and have NO tape to prove it...but all these dead people gave me an autograph: Gene, Charles, Brett, and even Fannie ( a big old lezzie who is very much alive, at this writing anyway..). The orange shag carpet was dirty, by the way.......Wes J. in NC

  • Best. Game Show Theme. Ever.

  • ONE of the best

  • So true!

  • @smittykins Never ever be another show like it! RIP to all those who have left us and went to that Match Game in the sky!

  • @smittykins yeah better than the safari devilish one

  • @smittykins That, The Price is Right (1972-2007 theme) and Family Feud (1976-1992) are the best. But this is awesome. :D

  • I think that match game is the most awesome game that ever made it on television. I wasnt alive when it first came out. But i watch it on GSN every chance I get. I also think the theme music is awesome.

  • This is Johnny Olson speaking for Match Game '7x, a Mark Goodson-Bill Todman Production. Please stay tuned for Tattle Tales, coming over most of these CBS stations.

  • Gene Rayburn played the guitar himself and it was also a Moog as well. He told me a long while back, he composed most of the song.

  • Yeah, right, HorrorVet.

  • In Gloucester, Massachusetts.

  • Love that funky guitar riff.

  • gene leaves behind a great tremendous amount of achievements.

  • i loooooooooooooove this theme

  • WHAU - bur bur bur bur bup-bup-bubup

  • Get ready to match the stars, (insert celebrity names), as we play the star studded big money Match Game ('7x/PM)! And here's the star of Match Game ('7x/PM), Gene Rayburn!

  • I always liked the guitar sound in all the Match Game songs. The guitar is hooked to some machine that gives it the "Wah wah" sound.

  • That wasn't a guitar at all, from what I understand. that was a MOOG synthesizer, the forerunner to those keyboard things they use nowadays.

There weren't even any trumpets/drums bass, either!

  • There is a MOOG and a hammoned organ. But that is a GUITAR you here making that sound, you can even hear the strumming, it's hooked up to those late 60's 70's wah-wah amps. You should know that

  • NO.

What YOU should know is that there is at least one occasion of Gene Rayburn himself stating those facts during the show.

You're speaking in reference to what's called a wah-wah PEDAL. I've spoken to ACTIVE bands about it, and even asked if that's how they did the Match Game theme song. So try watching the show, and asking a musician about it.

    There.

  • And I'm supposed to believe that... sheesh...

It IS a guitar in there, I have the CD of theme songs and lists some of the famous people that played on the song, it is a guitar, you know it, I know it, and the whole world knows it. Listen to someone who's a music genius and take it from me! PLERP!

  • Can't it be possible that you both are right?

  • Thank you so much for this! What a great tune and what great memories!

  • "A Mark Goodson/Bill Toddman Production!"

  • This great theme is one of the most recognizable themes in all of TV...

I wonder who did this music? The trumpet sounds like Herb Albert..

  • That's not a trumpet, it's a Moog synthesizer.

  • Would it be safe to say that Mr. Rayburn still holds the record for tallest game show MC?

  • @bwitz72 Not quite. Jim Perry of Card Sharks (At 6'4"), was two inches taller than Gene.

  • If this were available as a ringtone, I would have no choice but to get it.

  • If you want the theme song, message me with your email address, I'll send it to you. I also have others if you're interested.

  • now stay tuned for "secret storm" on most CBS stations

  • where can i find the other version of the match game theme song where the host was some young guy?

  • Can you post a link to where I can download this?

  • if you google game show themes there are several collections........

  • This show was great...love that music...This Johnny Olson for Match Game...Now stay tuned for the_____________

  • Tattle tales.

  • on most of these CBS Stations...

  • Yes chax1971. I agree with you that this TV game show was a very nice and great one too. Especially the theme music for the show. While the humour on this TV show did get a little silly, still, I liked a lot of it. When Betty White used to do those funny stripper type of dances to that famous music of "The Stripper", it always gave me a laugh and it really put a smile on my face. What cherished memories this TV show brings back for me. Everything about it was so nice. Certainly a must for DVD.

  • ahhhhhhh memories. Thanks for sharing this!

  • GO RICHARD DAWSON !!!

  • Richard Dawson hosted "Family Feud", dude!

  • (oh, wait, there he is...Never mind...) [/embarrassed]

  • Richard Dawson was on Match Game to.

  • Damn straight he was. And if you didn't pick him for the super match you were an idiot.

  • A classic theme as befits a classic comedy game show.
