Steve Vai is the guy featured in the Zappa video "Frank spanks Stevie" this is not to say that Vai is not excellent but there is a very long list of excellent and real musicans don't really consider their art a competition.
Wait one minute dude! I damn well your are not refering to Steve Vai! I don't give shit what allan of frank can do, and i love everything they do, but i love Steve vai to death and he is one of the most gofted and tecnicaly perfect guitarist ever to be. Don't you dare say shit about steve vai dude, thats Blasfemy
Godbless Allan!! , i think he is one of the best guitar players.
But guitar players like Joe Satriani or Steve Vai are so good players too, they went to the music college too and they just play another style with a different way to play.
Well when Steve Vai HIMSELF says that listening to Allan puts him into a "blissful state of surrender," I think that about sums it up. Please remember, there's more to life than pentatonic licks and whammy bar tricks.....Go study some harmony, man.....
You'd be surprised.....go locate the April 2008 issue of Guitar Player magazine, where players such as VAI, JOE SATRIANI, EDDIE VAN HALEN, YNGWIE MALMSTEEN and ADRIAN BELEW all shower Holdsworth with praise and admiration.
Calling someone's comments "gay" doesn't change the fact that you're an ignorant noob. Get your head out of your ass and learn something about MUSIC, not pentatonic boxes.

@NOTEWORKER007 I didn't talk any "shit" about Steve Vai...I was QUOTING HIM. Go ahead and look up the April 2008 issue of Guitar Player magazine. Vai says that listening to Holdsworth puts him in a "blissful state of surrender".

Man, please make you sure you know what you're talking about before you go around saying stuff like that. First of all he didn't abuse drugs, you just made some random assumption because you thought he sounded really weird. Secondly, you say he has no sense of melody? Listen to Devil Take The Hindmost or The Sixteen Men of Tain. You don't have to like it, but come on, what you said is completely outrageous.
His melodic ideas are great for the style of music he plays noob! Just like a blues melody is different from a bebop melody! This is jazz fusion noob and it's modern by definition.
Go listen to his Alans synthaxe solo at the end of Bill Evan's composition, Very Early.
There are many types of guitarist. There's the melodic geniuses - such as Latimer, Hackett, Gilmour, Rothery. There's the technical geniuses - such as Vai, Satriani, Petrucci, Batio. There's the metal/hard rock geniuses - like Blackmore, Iommi, Slash. Then there's the fusion geniuses - Santana, Di Meola and Holdsworth. They're all great at what they do but they're different. Which you like best is just personal preference. (And I've missed out some fantastic players, I know!)
I saw them for first time in the mid 80's with singer instead of keys - it was great. I think this was the drummer can anyone confirm?
AH fans, check out "jazzfusiontv" (google search) and find AH London '77. Wonderful jazz set with upright bass and acoustic piano. For now, I'm likin' it better than the fusion stuff.
Gary manages to solo brilliantly, while still being more a solid "root" player and hold down the bottom end better than Jeff did (also brilliant though). Nice clip!
Interesting sound he was getting there in the 80's

Certainement un artiste mais son jeu metallique, coupant, manque d'harmonie etne laisse passer aucune émotion !

There is absolutely NOTHING on guitar or anything else like Allan Holdsworth. His approach alone is absolutely spectacular.

Sorry AH fans, but he sounds like a picking exercise... he has no sense of what a melody should be. To many drugs in the 70s.
