However, it was advised by a Supreme Court Justice that it would lose on Constitutional grounds if he were put on trial because secession was legal. Few know that he is regarded as one of the best U.S. Secretaries of War to serve prior to 2nd American Revolution (aka Civil War).

Once Lee had heard of any such plans, he should have resigned --- like others did. Lee stayed in uniform WHILE planning or knowing of coming assaults on his government. He should have resigned.
But secession was not treason. And the South didn't secede legally, they attacked.

He's far too liberal to be a Muslim. To my perception, his greatest weakness will be in dealing with foreign competitors. The very magnanimity which endears him to many Americans will be perceived as weakness in the eyes of shrewd opponents, whereas Bush was tough with opponents and perhaps not kind enough to Americans.

The United States has never been a nation, the name is self explanatory. We are a confederation of states, each state is sovereign. We are a Union of Independent States. The Southern States fought for Independence, the North fought to force the Southern States back in the Union. We do pay at the end of the day, but not voluntarily. The Union holds us by force. I hope you don't think you are free. Why don't you build an Iron Curtain. I wouldn't want anybody in my Union, that didn't want to there.

Yes there were segregated armies in the north and yes the African American troops were given the hardest and most dangerous jobs, but what you failed to mention was that they volunteered and exercised their choice of free will, something that was unthinkable in the south.
