Awesome and informative ,I use these joint locks on the wrist to flow into the next relevant hold or attack ,its a way of controlling an opponent who doesnt know the techniqe, lets face it if someone grabs your wrist ,instincts says pull away, some people dont get that wich ,that usually leads to a better hold, The Maverick
@ClearwaterMMA It has worked, its all about positioning, I have used these techniques to when I did security in a bar. I also train pro MMA athletes, with good records who I use techniques agains when we spar. its a little hard to apply when gloves are on or when strikes are involved. these techniques work best when there is a close or grappling distance. Great for self defence. not so much for MMA
@hkdlion Thanks so much for posting this video. I am a first dan in from the Jin Pal federation. Sometimes I do have trouble with the basic wrist lock with people who are obviously expecting the lock and tighten up their wrist. This is such a clear and practical solution to that situation. Thanks for the demonstration. Keep the awesome videos coming!

Okay, that makes alot of sence since there are champion kickboxers and muay thai fighters in MMA right now and the reason they dont use hapkido is because its UNEFFECTIVE if it worked than there would be hapkido guys in MMA but theres not so you can just stfu.

Aside from that....I been doin Aikido ANd Hapkido moves on dudes in the street...since i was a young boy, so Maybe im just special...if it dosnt work.
You do realize MMA is a MIXTURE of martial arts right? And there are fighters that bring tae kwon do into the ring, and usually get their asses handed to them. TKD is a good "kicking game"..thats it. I know this because I did TKD and would NEVER rely on anything other than the basic kicks in a real fight.
all this stuff is fine until you get taken to the ground. go watch bjj vs hapkido and it will give you a good idea how useless hapkido is against someone with a good ground game. now i am not saying that it is completely useless but you should include jujitsu in you training.
Lol these are the basic forms I learn when I practice Hapkido. some of the forms are the basics and are the basis to the rest of the techniques. I was also wondering, isn't dan a japanese word for degreee?
Small Joint Manipulation is not allowed in mma. These techniques are geared towards self defence. The circumstances for this to work in MMA usualy do not arise in ring fighting with two athletes
check on wikipedia. Wrist is not small joint. Scientifically it isn't small joint either. not to mention you can do ankle locks and they're not small joint manipulation... LIkewise, neither is wrist.
One more thing for the UFC worshippers. After UFC 1-3 it became a joke. It was truly anything goes for the first few. I suppose the various State Sports commisions ruined the sport due to liability reasons.
And a last thought about MMA and the endless which art is better than the next. If you study at least one and then watch others you quickly realize that kicks, punches, throws, locks, are all generally the same art to art. A round house is a round house etc. Each has a style and focus.
Why does every youtube armchair expert compare every martial art to UFC? Unless you arrange a sparring match the odds of you getting attacked by another martial artists are infinitely small. Training at any martial art gives you a huge advantage over any untrained street moron. Pick your art, train to strengthen your mind and body and ignore all the ignorant asshats on youtube that wish they had a 1/100th the dedication a trained martial artist has. That said Hapikdo is awesome self defense art!
number 2: yes..Hapkido is a VERRRRRY effective art!!....its LITERALLY like Tae kwon do and aikido mixed. You cant get much more of a complete martial art then that.
OHHHHHHHHH MY GOD..HERE WE GO AGAIN wit the MMA SHIT!!! lol...SMH!
Why dont people realize what MMA and MMA fighters REALLY are..and REALLY are about???????? OMG!
Listen...MMA...u can come right from the street..go in there..and Dominate, ..why?..becuz the basis of it all, is Street fighting..and MINIMAL "SKILL". You can be...a not so good Athlete, and not blessed with SUPERB ability..and go in there, and actually Move along and have a good living in it....
.......it dosnt take ANY natural skill and ability and Atheletic Blessings...........now with BOXING, can you do that?..FUCKKKKK NO!!!....can some1 off the street..come in and Defeat..or even SURVIVE with his LIFE...against a Proffesional..Boxing CHAMPION..let alone a POUND 4 POUND champion, like Mayweather, or Roy Jones..or ETC..?...FUCKKKKKK NOO!!!.....in Boxing, u have to train dam year ur whole life..to be Good in the pros and to at LEAST be Amoung the best there....
................Anotha BIG thing peple dont realize, is that...BECAUSE these MMA fighters dont have the Abilities of the Top level boxers (or even the ADVERAGE ones), THATS why they go to MMA!......and all the 1s who WERE boxers...and found that they didnt have enuff skills and enuff of what it takes to be a Boxer...They THEN went to MMA!.,furthermore...another thing the prooves that is....every1 KNOWS..BOXING pays the BIGGG BUCKS!..so if these MMA fighters COULD be a boxer, they WOULD!.
Blarson, you may have reached that Dan grading but the true question then comes to the credibility of a teacher, 1st Dan in Hapkido averages 6-8 years, 1-2nd gup takes 1-2 years average...Gup is used to weed out those who aren't dedicated, obtaining a black belt within 1-2 years in this art would be strong sign of it being a non-credible teacher. Whom did you train under?
Quote: Blarson11 I have great respect for Hapkido as i was a former practitioner of it. I reached 6th degree black belt in just under 6 years. This is truly one of the first mixed martial arts fighting styles. End quote:
LOL... yes u are a liar 6 years is the average for a first degree...NOT a 6th. Hapkido is way to complex and varied.
I have great respect for Hapkido as i was a former practitioner of it. I reached 6th degree black belt in just under 6 years. This is truly one of the first mixed martial arts fighting styles.
6th Dan would take you at least 24 years under proper training of a quality instructor. I bet Dr. Kimm could watch your "6th Dan" techniques and pick them apart. They're probably at best 1st Dan quality. We have 3 5th Dans in our school and they're DAMN GOOD. They have also been at it for at longer than 6 years...
Do those wondering about getting hit, this is not a technique that you would use in full blown combat. It's primarily a defense against various types of grabs. Also, it's often taught with a shin kick, belly kick or eye strike to stun the other person and buy you the split second you need to make it work. So you use one hand only to trap the hand that's grabbing you, deliver a fast kick, then instantly apply the wrist break.
it's nice to see our basic techniques demostrated like that. our yellow and blue belts are learning that. but it's still a really effective move to know.
Very good grear technique, though, if I couldn't take a person down from a simple wrist-break away, i'd probably just go into a center lock. (knowing me, I probably wouldn't be able to reach under quick enough)
Anytime you dedicate both your hands to one of your opponents hands in a real fight, you're leaving yourself open to a strike from the other hand. It may work in a demonstration, but I doubt its success in a street fight.
You're not addressing the issue. If you commit both your hands to one of mine, in a real fight where we're both moving fast and hard, there's not much protecting your face from my other hand.
He shows at 2:00 exactly how effectively your opponent is able to punch if you have them locked in, which is moot when you realize this should take about 2 seconds.
It's pretty difficult to punch when you've just had the wind knocked out of you by being slammed into the floor and you're laying on top of one arm and your other arm is wrapped up and being shoved into the floor next to your head by a knee while you're taking blows to the ribs.
Unfortunately, UFC has rules. HapKiDo does not. HapKiDo also has small joint manipulations and we break whatever we can get a hold of. In UFC, tghe rules don't allow breaking someone's finger or choking from the front with a forearm. HapKiDo does.. :)
I tried to explain this to my MMA friends too. They didn't believe me. I told them to put me in thier best chokehold (most irreversible) I almost broke his thumbs and he almost cried like a little girl lolz.
That little thumb bone can make them jump soo high.
Yep. Small joint manipulation is awesome. Many people MMA fights and make comments about how they would do something. Most "street fights" are over in about 30-45 seconds. You can even see that in many of the original UFC fights when nearly everything was legal. Also, in a street fight, you can bite the hell out of people too. If I'm tangled up with someone, I am not above biting finger, ear, toe, or nose off. I'll do what it takes to win....even twisting nuts.
i was only saying you got that rigth is your hard training and the energy that you put on your practice are the things that will make you a great figther
that commet was not very thaught out. VRjagaurandi, was just saying who his master is. which is a very respectable thing to do. Hard work, and dedication will make you good. Your Master will teach you technique, it is up to you to carry it out and ingrain it into your body and nervous system.
