I assure you the bolt operation is completely normal. I have the Stevens 87D, it is the tube fed rifle of the same design and it operates the same way. As far as I know these are the only semi autos that operate like this.
Yes nice rifle I have the sears 25 pretty good I just replaced the right extractor /spring / plunger . this one was made by high standard model 1040a. tube fed . 24 short / 17 long 15 long rifle stamped hi on the barrel , Aug 1965
@daveboy108 If you have a Sears model 25 you have a completely different rifle than the Stevens 85 rifle in the video. Your rifle is the Sears version of the High Standard "Sport King". That rifle of yours sure does hold a pile of .22 shorts! How reliable is it with all the various type of .22 ammo?
that is cool i want that for my ruger i bet it is super accurite cuz it seats the round in the hole and it is closer to the same angle of the bullet in the chamber from the force applyed to it when it is kinda launched into the gun at its own speed
i have a wards westernfield model 87. it is the same gun just different manufacturer. it is the normal function of the bolt but it is weird to get used to. mine is tube fed though. no magazine
yeah, i have a wards western field model 87. same gun just different manufacturer. it is the normal functioning of the bolt. strange i know. Springfield also made one called the model 87. yours is a model 85 though. mabey because of the synthetic stock
@60brandon The clip fed version is the model 85 and the tube mag version is the model 87. The rifle in the video actually has a wood stock that was damaged and to hide the repair work I coated it with truck bed liner.
Pretty much the same design of stock and trigger guard as some versions of the Savage model 4, as you say they use the same magazines. I have a Savage 4C kicking around here, I've not fired it in awhile.
pretty convenient allows you to check if there's another round in the mag and/or if there is a jam up. Also you wont get any stovepipes with that in all likely hood due to there being alot of 'open' time.
Yep, when I shoot this rifle and my Stevens model 87 I find it easy to check if there are any more rounds in mag by keeping the trigger pulled and having a quick look into the action. As for jams/stovepipes I don't think I've ever had any, probably for the reasons you mention.
.....when I got the rifle in the video the stock was broken into seven pieces! It was like a jig saw puzzle to put back together, used a lot of epoxy and pins. The black finish is to cover all the repairs!
Beautiful little rifle. Just outta curiosity, would you happen to know where parts can be gotten for it and similar models? my model 87B chewed up the spring that keeps the charging handle from going limp, I've no idea where to look for a replacement
i have a similar stevens, with tubular mag on it,. the action on mine does the same thing, it is a safety feature as well as for accuracy.the idea of the hold open is for triger control. sure you can fire it 1000 miles an hour if you want, but the stevens where designed for accuracy.
The 300 is the Stevens branded version of a Savage Mark-II, which is Savages version of the old Lakefield Mark II. They look like decent rifles for the money.
That's an amazing .22 so cool with the bolt not cocking till you let go, maybe so it's faster but with accuracy like a bolt action? Dunno. My 22 is bolt action, I love it
The more I think about it the more I believe the unusual action just a simple way of disconnecting the sear between shots - since you must release the trigger for the bolt to close it ensures that only one shot can fire per pull of the trigger.
Yes it is. These are interesting rifles, you can fire .22 long rifle rounds semi-auto but it can also be used as a sort of bolt action - the bolt handle can be pushed in to lock the bolt and keep it from ejecting.
Okay thank you

i want that ruger conversion if posible that is cool man wow
hwninja92 1 year ago
that is sick what is its purpose though
hwninja92 1 year ago
@hwninja92 It's just another way of disconnecting the striker and trigger to enable reliable semi auto function.
314299 1 year ago
Yeah, the model 85 Stevens is supposed to do this. I have one myself and I noticed this also.

i love my gun its just like that one except mine is not bed lined i was wondering if any one knew when this was made
danton360 1 year ago
the one i have has a wooden stock
danton360 1 year ago
This is actually a wood stock as well. It required a lot of repair work so I sprayed it with truck bed liner to make it look a bit better.
314299 1 year ago
oh yeah my bro did that with his 270 , do u know when this gun was made
danton360 1 year ago
I think 1940's to early 1950's for this version.

Leave it to Stevens to make some odd guns. I've got a 58c, the extractor's worn though
Goodspittin 3 years ago
You ought to be able to source a replacement extractor for that 58C - lots of Stevens have been torn down for parts over the years.
