Here's a great analogy: Cosmic Carnage's gameplay is bland, mediocre bread and everything else is the juicy, delicious bacon and cheese on top. Fighting Master's gameplay is a piece of shit, and while everything else is that bacon and cheese on top, the wonderful cheesiness and so bad-it's-good factor, you still wouldn't want to eat shit.

Game made to ride street fighter 2's coattails mostly sucked because either A: They still didnt know how to make easy to pull off special moves (a'la hadoken) or B: Horrid character balance and did not have the then new combo system SF2 had. So most fights took forever for all the wrong reasons

I think the best way to fix this game is to change it to a beat em' up...cause that was my first thought when I saw the graphics. The shrine in particular gives me the feeling of a multi-level plane...like Street of Rage.

This game wasn't great, but I can remember getting it as a stop gap until Street Fighter 2: Special Championship Edition came out, and I have to admit I quite liked it. That final boss was a friggin' nightmare though compared to the other charcaters.

But seriously, I liked this game and I even play it sometimes. Indeed, there's way better games out there but for me it's a "good-bad-game".

And this game have 2 storylines depending of the version. in Japanese version, you must defeat the 11 FIghting Masters who were under control of the evil boss whose name i forgot. I preffer the US Storyline.

Tip. Try to suplex an enemy with Dirk(main character) against the wall... 4-hit combo! Plus 1 from the fall.

we stumbled on this game as kids... i completely agree on how bad it is. But oddly enough, its "sucky-ness" is what made us remember it throughout all these years. Whenever we got together in and out over the years, we'd say "remember that really bad genesis fighting game? what was it again?" we all knew exactly what we were talking about, but none of us could remember the damn title. The gameplay was so random that it pretty much equalized the playing field, and thats why we played this game!

You're better off playing Street Fighter 2 or Mortal Kombat 1-3 those games blow Fighting Masters out of the water. I do remember how the controls are cryptic and gameplay was monotonous. Well, here is the first CGR review that i do not agree. I played this when i was a kid back in 92 and was a very enjoyable experience. Even today this game has some good memories, and a good fighting system, presenting critical hits seen' on KOF series and super jumps like Marvel vs Capcom series. Maybe they could have spend a little more time on the characters and the backgrounds. But the game itself is pretty good, better than Primal Rage or Brutal at least. For me Mark was to hard on that one
