@Timpler10 such a prejudiced comment! You'd never say that about a black person. Why is it socially acceptable to put down fat people? Linda is not saying a person won't lose weight if they engage in healthier behaviours. She's saying for us to shift focus and make healthy behaviours our goal. It's impossible for most to reach the socially glorified "thin ideal" & that's where we set everyone up for failure - when they don't achieve the thin ideal they give up, or worse go on an unhealthy diet

@etobicoke363 nonsense. Look at any picture of active hunters and gatherers - for instance, 19th century Plains Indians. They seemed to manage to "reach the socially glorified thin ideal" no problem.

@PraecoNoctis I love to see a pic of a hunter/ gatherer - but you don't have one do you? You are basing your hunter/gatherer mumbo jumbo on speculation. Tell me one thing, what was their longevity?? Not impressive was it? Look at the real studies, which show health risks related to weight come only at BMI 30+. Slightly overweight is actually protective from mortality, than underweight or normal BMI. 95% ppl regain weight lost though diets, some even more. Dieting is the EVIL;)

@etobicoke363 Actually I'm looking at the pictures right now in my book. Yes that's right hunter gatherers don't have very long lives, that is because of war, infant mortality and lack of modern medicine, but their physical condition was great. You go right ahead and believe that being the normal shape for a human being is somehow unhealthy though. I'll continue to believe my lying eyes showing me that fat people have difficulty even walking distances compared to normal-shaped people.
