  • Listening to this now, I'm surprised the Glee cast haven't covered this one!! The UK doesn't do Eurovision entries like it used to!! Carrie Grant is someone I met at a recording of COMIC RELIEF DOES FAME ACADEMY in 2005 we were lucky to get audience tickets for, she is still hot now :-)

  • not camp at all...fab.

  • 12 points go to... the bar stools...

  • I think this song opened a new term in Eurovision history. Shows and stage presence started getting importance and this situation reached the summit in 2000's.

  • i whanted the same clothes as he when i was a kid.

  • OOOOOOOOOOOOO......OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO/////////////

  • plonkers

  • Una de mis canciones de el 83 junto con yugoslavia y suecia, levantan el animo

  • Great orchestration! Who says modern up-tempo music can't be played live by the traditional Eurovision orchestra?

  • I believe the year of 1983 was one of the most competitive years for Eurovisions. all the songs sounded beautiful.. even the 17th place from Denmark .. :-) although the first place song from luxembourg isnt much of my favorite.. :-(

  • This should of won..........all them years ago..

  • So catchy

  • Bloody love this. Me, my friend and my sis used to do the dance to this..... 28 years later and last night discovered we still all know the words and the dance..... FANTASTIC :D

  • Oh,my good god,am I ever glad 1983 was just one haze of hedonism for me.This is just dire!

  • Terrific performance.

  • very good UK song

  • Both Bobby McVey and Carrie Grant went on to further their careers as a DJ and TV personality respectively but whatever happened to the third member, Helen Kray (the blonde one)?

  • omg one of the best eurovision songs everrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

  • 1983, golden year

  • I'm sorry, but this is CRUEL!!!

  • Ah the days when we were disappointed when we finished 6th...now we just accept coming last. How times have changed! Good luck to Blue let's hope they can get as high as 6th - god forbid!

  • I remember Bobby McVie at my local dance school when I was about 9 years old, I could not believe it when I saw him on Eurovison a few years later and yes I had a crush on him too!!! I think these days he is a dj on a welsh radio station?

  • I think the best part of the song is the orchestra sooo bright. it puts i great mood me

Why cant we have songs like this in the eurovision now

  • This is one the best UK entries. It should have got a lot higher than it did as it was a good performance and a word to the orchestra who were excellent.

  • i love this, one of the best uk entrys ever

  • Very catchy eurovision song

  • this song is like a buck fizz type one lad two girls where bucks fizz had two lads and two girls i think in the summer of 1981 or 1982 they came to galway salthill and played there i was too young at the time to go and see them i still have the first ablum and are you ready both tape and cd now so i listen to them when ever i like its kool music the 80s pitty sweet dreams didnt have an album

  • Fantastic, they should have won. I actually went to college with Bobby McVey, we used to get the bus home together, had a MAJOR crush on him, he is a lovely man, used to chat at the bus stop, wonder what he is doing now?!

  • Loved it.Was so annoyed it didn't win as a young 12 year old.Went to bed with tears in my eyes. How can i get this ?Brilliant forgotten how good it was.

  • this is so much better than uk 1981, the wining song! It was a very strong year, one of the best ever...but stil this could had been top-3

  • I actually think this was one of our better Eurovision song entries. I'm surprised it only came 6th.

  • love it....

  • I just cannot watch this enough - priceless!

  • masterpiece

  • A GREAT entry from UK...Far better than Bucks Fizz' winning song in 1981.

  • Good song! got to love the 80´s :-)

  • The girl in red is Carrie Grant vocal coach on Fame Academy

  • new labour have created a more divisive society, under the facade of tolerant diversity, than thatcher ever did. multiculturilism has failed it just segregates and makes our communities more insular than integrated.

  • so sad that some people are still complaining about thatcher!

the 80s were great for me!!:-)

    and im poor

  • esto si que es un temazo eurovisivo y menuda coreografia

  • My favourite in 1983, should have won!!!! Greatings to the U.K. from Portugal! 12 points!!!!!!

  • Bobby McVey is really cute here!!

  • The best song this contest! Should really had won. Really got memories from this song...Thaught the girl was so sexy when i was a kid, still think she's sexy. Mayby a little bit too much make up.

  • I agree, should had won!

  • I remember this very well not least because I actually used to live quite close to Carrie Gray (as she then was). It has to be one of the campist, cheesiest, "Kids from Fame"-ish performances the UK has ever entered into Eurovision. IT SHOULD HAVE WON EASILY !!! Bad luck guys (great choreography by the way). Does anyone know what became of Helen Kray ?

  • Can u believe I bought this record wow that big hair still nice to look back on

  • What a superb performance! And full marks to the author of the orchestral arrangement and, of course, to the orchestra itself.

  • Good Eurovision song. Did you know that the one in red is Cary Grant, who is now a talent show judge? I heard she is embarassed about this now- she shouldn't be!

  • @verkaforever why this i would say was the pinnacle of her career.

  • Me too.

  • Can anyone confirm one of the singers is Carrie Grant ie off carrie and davids popshop.?

  • That's her, she's the brunette.

  • @setheurovision94 She was Carrie Gray then. Bobby McVay and Helen Ray complete the rhyming like group members!

  • in that year Ofra Haza competed for Israel, she didn't win either although she was really good too

  • Totally agree with you - Ofra Haza was my favourite that year and then the Uk were my second favourite

  • In the comments, there is a mention of the 'glory days' of the ESC, but perhaps such times are personal to all of us. I think the ESC tries to change to mirror current musical styles, but those style differ across Europe. For me, some of the best songs over the years have come from Spain and Holland, but I have also enjoyed many of the French language songs. The influx of Eastern European countries has messed up voting even more, but the songs are the most important thing. Go ESC 2010 !!!

  • Simply kicks the opposition into touch! Still an absolute belter of a song! ps Seth they are STOOLS not chairs!

  • I think this might be favourite Eurovision song of all time! Is that wrong?!

  • wow! sexier,bouncier,lovelier,tunefulier!!

lets get that 80s feeling back somehow!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Vote Conservative! - 3 million unemployed, capping local council rates, slashing services, they may even want to start another Falklands War... ;-)

  • Yeah! Awesome slice of British optimistic synth-pop, straight out the early 80's!

    I'm NEVER givin' up!

  • Nice song, but I think we tried to replicate Bucks Fizz too much in '82 and '83. Israel should have won this year.

  • This is a 80's classic. The true glory days of eurovision when it was a great contest with great songs.

  • the eurovision of the 80s was simply THE BEST

  • LOVE IT. This is a great song I think it is even the best of that year imo, and much better than the following year's winner

  • we entered some crackers in the 80s

    shame about the 00's really...

  • I agree about the 80's - some WONDERFUL songs. I still have this on vinyl as it was a huge hit here in Ireland. This shoulod have won that year. It is easy to see where Malta got their idea for the glitter in their song 7th Wonder that was pipped to the post by Latvia. But this song from Sweet Dreams was a belter. Still love it. I also think that the UK has sent great songs in the 00's too. 12 points from IRELAND

  • Too bad Ireland didn't take part that year; it would have been interesting to see how well this would have fared with the Irish jury.

  • I agree. I do remember buying this song with my pocket money - it went Top 5 in the Irish Charts. Still a great song and performance. Carrie Grant - the woman with the dark hair -is a very successful vocal coach with her Husband David Grant - remember him? He sang "Could it be I'm falling in love" and "Mated" - both with the wonderful Jacki Graham. The Irish Jury at that time were into up tempo songs - we had Horoscopes in 81, Here Today Gone Tomorrow in 82 and the Wonderful Terminal 3 in 84

  • Interesting ponderance. Looking at voting in surrounding years from 80 to 84 (exc 83) Ireland gave the UK 6, 10, 7 & 8 pts respectively. Judging from this & how Irish people like myself have rated this song one could assume it would have received between 5 & 8 pts from Ireland. BTW Ireland & UK tend to cancel each other out in voting records despite what some think.

  • Arse!

  • ????????? No entiendo el contexto, puedes enlighten me?

  • not convinced of the "canceling out" of scores ie UK & Eire

  • Then put on your best Katie Boyle frock (metaphorically of course - dont want to offend your sense of manhood) & recall the votes. I think I'll be vindicated.

  • Never!

  • Heard it for the first time since then - what an uplifting song! Yes, it's a little bit corny of course, but there is no way Britain would produce such a song now. We're far too "sophisticated" - and unhappy!

  • I remember this, but I had no idea the lady in the middle was Carrie Grant! How time changes things.

  • Hahaha I have Bobby McVay's autograph, he was a DJ for my local radio show....I never figured out this was him. Awesome I have met someone who was in Eurovision :P

  • very nice song!

  • i love this song.

  • wow utterly fantastic - the UK really had superb entries up until 2000 (2001 & 2002 exempt)

  • Not all of them were so great, and I think 1999 was your weakest entry in years. I actually very much like all your entries 2000-2002. But yes, of course the UK have had a number of great entries, some of which - '77, '78, and '94 - are among my all-time favourite.s

  • well thats ur opinion (which can at times be wonky to say the least :P) Im watching these UK entries with fresh eyes - & to me they are great! :P :) (and stop saying "your" to me - i live in UK but am not British

  • Grumpy, aren't we? :D But glad we agree on the UK entries (and sorry about forgetting your nationality).

  • LOL u got it int he neck there then . I do miss realisticESC,,,, what a grump made me look angelic!

  • this is great I remember it so well and was so hoping it would win but maybe it was too similar to previous uk entries for the juries. I always thought the blond girl looked a bit too "posh girls public school" for this kind of thing! I wonder what she's doing these days?

  • the blonde seems to be struggling with the whole singing thing, I'm not sure it's really her area.

  • I've got something that might be more in her area. :)

  • It makes me so happy - a fantastic mood!!! The audience loved it! So easy going!

  • where did it finish?

    And i like i like :P -

  • It finished at 6th place with 79 points. And I like it very much too.

  • great sound quality here, should have scored higher

  • Should have won.

  • HAHAHA thats Carrie Grant in the red socks. She gave the UK votes in the 2008 contest.

  • One of the UK's best Eurovision entries during the 1980's :-)

  • A "typical" Eurovision entry but thats why I like it.
