  • played guitars for years now gonna get banjo or mandolin next week :)

  • You might try a diffuser(?) screen over or in front of the light to soften the light on you. I'm not a photographer but just offering a suggestion.

  • Manod's are all about the diads!! Someone in the band will cover the 1 and 5 for ya. Nice mandolin too man.

  • im on my dad's aacount . and im just starting the mandolin and it hurts my fingers and the stings are to small ?

  • @Feargal67 im 15 ive only been playing for about 3 months it hurt but now i have callus pads on all of my left hand fingers. just stay with it

  • Even if I didn't like your lesson (and I did) I had to give this a positive rating just because of the "bald" comment :D

  • @Poodlepups hahaha thanks!

  • is this transposable around the fretboard? It seems almost too good to be true!

  • Everything is transferrable on a mandolin

  • someone gifted me a mandolin and I know nothing but I LOVE the mandolin and have a voice that matches it. Where do I start?

  • I like to encorporate all the strings if possible, whenever possible, so I don't have to mute any, and because it gives me a fuller sound.

Any alternatives to those chords, using all four strings?

  • Try G: 5 D: 4 A: 5 E: 6 for the D7th chord. move it up and down the board for others. Augment (sharp) the high A for a cools sound in a Gprogression

  • I mean E: 5

  • Thanks Professor!!

  • @fedecuco Thank you, Grasshopper.

  • interesting circle of fifths stuff, I gotta try it out! maybe with "my four reasons" or one of those 3/6/2/5/1's. thanks.

  • whats that awesome song at the very end of the video???

  • It's a tune I wrote called "Takin the Shortcut Home" which is printed in my book Mandolin Excursion. Sorry for being so slow in responding to your post... Brad

  • emmm... I play d7 as in second fret on first string, 3rd fret on 3rd string and second fret on the 4th string ... this does't sound the same as yours! am i doing somthing wrong?

  • Your D7 is perfectly valid too. I am just playing one farther up the neck to avoid using any open strings.

  • Aw thanks! can i just say thankyou so much for your vids! :D

    xXx

  • Grass never grows on busy streets. Thank you for posting.

  • You should also post a comment on my Mandolin Vid with the tune I did just a recommended feature.

  • Hmm this is going to sound odd...but I kind of learn alittle more of these on guitar...I also learned a few thile stuff....like Hop The Fence and Swallow Tail Jig....I dont want to bragg but I have been playing mandolin since I was like 9....Then guitar then Bass then Banjo.

  • My mando is on the way. Thanks for the great lessons that I will use to learn with. You are really good.

  • hey thats really super... never thought of that... very interesting

  • hey brad, great stuff keep it going.. i've been playing music for 40 yrs.acoustic guitar. and i'm a country/ blues/ bass man. i got myself a mk firefly mandolin bout a year ago.and i fell in love with that thing. [ got some bluegrass tabs from homespun tapes by steve kaufman. but i would love to get into blues as i know the blues better than bluegrass.u got any ideas for me ???

  • brad ur are doing a great job.....from Punjab,India

  • Hi Brad, I own all of your mandolin books and the material has totally transformed my approach to learning this instrument. My girlfriend really wants me to play the 'Mission Impossible' movie theme song, but I am having problems working it out at this stage. I acknowledge how busy you must be, but perhaps this tune could be the subject of a future lesson? All the best from Sydney, AUS

  • Hi! Is that movie theme the same as the old TV show of the same name? What key have you been trying it in? I must admit I barely remember that thing, but I know it went "doot doot, do-doot-doot doot, doo doot doot doot... etc. haha Write me back and lemme see if I can help you with it. Brad

  • Hi Brad, i'm a mando-u subscriber & the wife got me a couple of your books for my b-day, great stuff, this video is a nice help for me. Bill always said to understand Bluegrass, you need to understand the blues. thanks for the video
