  • The Muhammad Ali of Basketball

  • He hasn't changed one bit

  • Bottom line - better than anyone in the history of sport, Russell instilled in his teammates the knowledge that they just..? they could win every game.

Some say Boston was stacked with HOF players. No one came to the Celtics as HOF player, after playing with Russell that they left HOF players.

Jordan (and a few others) would love to play him 1on1 but only a fool would want to play any team Russell game 7 of a championship.

A Bill Russell team, is Jordan's nightmare, and Phil Jackson's too.

  • Wow. So he's always been this mature. Great man. But what's with the audio?

  • Most underrated NBA player in history as many of his defensive statistics weren't even recorded.

  • Yes, racists today don't respect shot blocking.

  • Wow you're hilarious! You must write for Phil Jackson!

  • Maybe you misunderstand me. Today, blocked shots are recorded but they are undervalued.

  • Well I misunderstood why you used the term "racists". There are many non-racist people who also don't respect shot-blocking.

  • I don't understand how you can not respect shot blocking and at the same time be non-racist. Bill Russell showed the value of shotblocking.

Therefore, not respecting shotblocking is not respecting Bill Russell. Given his success, it seems that there isn't any valid basketball reason for not respecting shotblocking, but only race.

  • Russell gets shit on alot by modern fans because he wasnt that good of a scorer. Though he could score.

They dont understand that he brought a defensive presence never seen before. He was also a great rebounder and a fierce competitor. A great leader.

  • I can't wait to read the Bill Simmons NBA book, might haive something on Russ, it definitely considers Wilt overrated which is an interesting conversation.

  • He is not underrated. He is regarded as a pioneer center

  • If so then why, in the lists of greatest NBA centers ever does he come up no higher than 3rd even though he has more titles than Wilt, Kareem, and Hakeem COMBINED!

  • Because they put on a show. Bill Russell won games. People prefer players that put on a show, because in the end thats what we pay for and thats what dreams are made of... he is not THE best.. he is one of the best

  • And based on what I stated, if he is consistently ranked no higher than 3rd, then he's UNDERRATED!

And the "people" who prefer a show are idiots. Last time I recall, the Nielsen ratings don't determine the NBA Champion.

  • No.. but if no one watches there, in the end there will be no NBA... and no he is not underrated... how many players from his era are still remembered like that.. not many

  • there would still be an NBA if no one watches. Believe that!

  • Yes.. but then it would matter as little as the national curling league of Spain

  • and?

  • @baroh2413 tell me, would u rather get a show, or a championship?

  • @sixarmedfreak99 as a fan I would like a show. As a player I would like a championship.

  • Excellent stuff, and the music.
