Valve Demo Smoother Tutorial Part 1 of 3

I watched this six times, still i cant drive well. I can drive once, but when i click again it goes back to start point.

@xManikZz If it's Team Fortress: You have to HOLD Make Key while moving around.

@xManikZz The demo smoother is very buggy. You should follow the steps exactly as in the video, but if it doesn't work, delete a few keys and try again. If it's not working at all, you might have to start again :(

Everytime I press "next tick" in DemoUI, it will lag a bit and !LOAD! me to main menu.. It won't just go to next tick/frame/screenshot like. Might you know what causes that?

@kajuuTV The Demo Smoother is very, very, very buggy. Jumping, crouching will all affect the camera, and there are many problematic bugs. I suggest to try make a demo in another game to check if your source files are problematic. You could try a reinstall? If drive won't work at all, then you won't be able to mark the path of the camera!

@ZliikeCss host_framerate 500 shouldn't affect the tickrate at all. it's the commandline -tickrate 33/66/100 (at least I think that's the command) that affects the ticks on your game, but client hosted 'games' will always have a tickrate of 33, servers are now fixed to 66.

@LyrX297 You'll have to verify your steam cache files, possibly reinstall. Bear in mind the Demo Smoother is so buggy, it's very cranky and for some people won't work at all!

Hi, I have a problem! I have watched alot of these tutorials.. and I have done everything right at the start, I reload the demo, insert my ticks... and when I click 'select' I do not get any lines of selection....

I am using a Movie.cfg so I am thinking the person who made thisconfig has used a command to remove that?

You can't disable them any more as far as I know...

The duck-camera problem is a known bug, there's no work around for it as it's an intermittent problem.

If possible, try not to duck as much :p

I was so annoyed, I've had hundreds of demos made, then when they released the updated models, none of my demos would work :o

But that did eventually get fixed, though now I think they're focused on new CS, not Sauce anymore :(

There's still loads to be fixed in CS:S :/

Notice how he says "for source based games". That includes Counter-Strike: Source, Day of Defeat: Source, Half-Life 2, Team Fortress 2, Portal, etc;

Counter-Strike 1.6 is not a source based game.

eg. bind - 'r_drawvgui 0' bind = 'r_drawvgui 1'

Seriously, take it slowly and write everything down, step by step. Pause the video and listen to it many MANY times. I'll upload a hi-def version of it when I get time, I hate the tiny squinty version this is in.

You already have it, if you own your own copy of Counter-Strike: Source, or any Source Engine game, like Half-Life 2, Insurgency etc.

Go to:

OPTIONS > KEYBOARD > ADVANCED

Tick enable developer console if it's not already enabled, then open the console, with the key just above the TAB key, very top left of your keyboard. In the console, type in DEMOUI and hit RETURN.

OR

Hold SHIFT, and press the F2 key very top of your keyboard, and it will bring up the Demo GUI.

I seriously recommend watching the video a few times, and TAKE NOTES on the steps. Then try it yourself, step-by-step, until it's in your head, and it'll never leave :P

I recommend experimenting with it and remember, ONLY Point-Of-View (POV) demos work at present, I've yet to get server-side recorded demos to work. So the ones on your own PC are the only demos that you'll be able to create astounding videos from. Record your POV demos!!! Then edit them, and make sweet vids!

This isn't clear enough for me. I tried it, for a teaser of my new series. But it's just to confusing, i though i had it, but when i played it, its flashed to all the keys in like 2 second then went back to first person. I just don't know.

It can be a nightmare to get the hang of tbh. That and the fact that it's still buggy as hell and the occurance of those bugs is completely random at best to boot, makes it a daunting tool to get used to.

You need to record a demo from the server, not your client. The client recordings only record what you see, and who you switch to. UNLESS you're using the demo smoother, like here, then you can put the camera where you want. Watch the tutorial videos. All 3 of em.

lol that's not me. That's one of the VALVE developers personal tutorials. Watch it a few times. I had to to understand what's happening. And remember he doesn't explain that it can be REAL buggy in places, but for the most part, allows people to make AMAZING CSS vids. Like I said, watch it a few times and you'll get it in no time.
