  • Tutorial? :)

  • dude this is beautiful

  • WOW

  • Question; If the "Game engine" is Procedurally generated (I'm assuming), does this mean that you get a 'Randomly" genergated universe/galaxy every time you start up?,

I'm just assuming based on fractal law (me thinks;). and if not, then perhaps you could allow a person to manipulate a few small variables, and created they're own "cosmos"!!. :)).

  • @MrFennmeista

It's going to be an MMO, so the universe is the same for every player. But every single planet of that universe moves on its own in real time. That's how I understood it.

  • never let EA or Activison publish this....they will make shitty DLC and elite services and ure gonna have to pay for almost everything in this game, including youre ships fuel

  • that should be the cover of the box. Its like .... every frame is a piece of concept art....

    *sheds tear*

  • i downloaded the prototype version, how can i make an offline server?

  • i'm keeping my eye on this game.

  • This Game isnt coming out for much much longer o.e

  • youtube.com/watch?v=nW9M3cG3dLE Check it out!

  • I don't care when this game comes out but I do care if it comes out they can take all their time to make it even better and adjust it to how they want it to be because so far I like how they want it to be and I doubt I would be dissapointed

  • how about releasing some betas for us to test ;) ;) ;) ;)

  • I ... I didn't know it was possible O.O

  • I feel like this game will conquer EVE

  • I hope to got you guys will not be bought out by EA or something

  • @Merrick0001 Little hard for one guy and a whole community of people contributing to a game to be bought out, Besides we're been drifting long for a long time now. If If anything Eve has been trying to (poorly)mimic what we are creating, though the developers there have a limited scope to work with unlike us.

  • @SilvaDreams if it ever does get bought out no point playing it. Games are always shitter if not created by the original team.

  • @wdfeo Quite true, but not only would the company who buys the code off of our beloved creator of Infinity they would have to pay and give royalties to any of the people who's content they used that is in the game already.

  • Oh my, that's intimidating. so pretty though. : )

  • wow, stunning. Could you tell me how this was created?

Is it a particle simulation from a 3D software or from OpenGL / DirectX?

  • @AstroBarnard33 It is coded in OpenGL, full details can be found in the dev journal on the Infinity Universe web site. The journal entry is titled "Nebulae, part III"

  • this is great

  • That is so cool!

    ☽ ☼ ✴ Universal Appeal ✴ ☼ ☾

  • Looks great

  • I almost mistook that for the real thing.

When it's done, I know Infinity is going to beat Eve by a long shot!

  • hey can someone give me a link to this games website i cant google it anymore.

  • @HXxKanexXS Look in the description.

  • So pretty...

Can't wait of Infinity, Freelancer meets Eve, can't go wrong :)

  • why nobody makes games like Elite II :( only arcadish games for dumb kids, games starts to be dumber :/ Now I play x3 and even if its nicelly complicated it still have no things like planetary landing and zero newtonian physix :/ Elite games was only games where realism was very important and now in games there is ARCADE ARCADE ARCADE for those dumb fucking kids. They want more and more simple games for their fucking simple brains. Its so fucking annoying! :/

  • maybe you're just a stuck up prick

go buy more real time strategy games, space games in my opinion should be about exploration.

  • @7BeAsT9 I wish I could give you fifty thumbs up for this comment. It's exactly what I've been saying, but nobody listens.

    R.I.P. MicroProse and Old LucasArts

  • @TheReaverOfDarkness We are like dinosaurs. Game developers dont care to make innovative games they make games for casual players. Simple games which looks like interactive movie :/ Microprose... yes I like ufo enemy unknown and other parts. Now nobody is making turn based games too. They are very rare and made by fans of Jagged Alliance and UFO series. Nobody else cares about old ideas cuz only old gamers like them. Casual gamer is like virus which destroyed many game genres.

  • @7BeAsT9 That's an interesting way to put it...

    ...I like it!! ^__^

  • @7BeAsT9 While i agree with you, it is NOT because of casual gamers, or even kids. The devs just "think" that is what they have to do to reach that market.

Think about it, when WE were stupid little kids that could barely use a mouse, we STILL played Elite, Civilization, UFO and all those other complex lovely games. We were dumb little kids, noobs at computers, yet we managed to play them and we LOVED it..

Games today arent made for casuals or kids, they are made for idiots. Thats the prob!!

  • @Baleur Hmm I was young but I was no dumb kid and I played every game which was sim. I hated fast stupid games where everything comes to fast pressing buttons. I played also Robinsons requiem which was very complicated game and as young gamer I loved it. Now games like dumb warfare games are popular where your soldier regenerates in 10 seconds after getting few bullets at his body. In robinsons requiem every wound needed to be treated individually. Ask casual players what they think about that.

  • @7BeAsT9 +100500!!!

  • @7BeAsT9 just placing this here, pioneer space sim, if you didn't look it up already.

  • @Kvokki I played it already :) I started on alfa 7

  • If I'm not mistaken that looks like a class Y nebulae. I like Voyager =P This looks soo sick. I can't wait untill I can buy all new parts to make a sick computer that can run 3 of these at the same time and it won't lag for me ;)

  • Will be good to blast enemies away in such an area x)

  • So Beutiful

  • wow this is highspeed cruise

    faster that light ! lol

  • looks amazing, cant wait for this game to come out

  • So is this like some kind of advanced pixel shader? I've been wondering for ages how they do volume effects, it's easy enough for raytracing but the way I understand rasterizing it should be very difficult.

  • an MMO? bullshit, its a new thing: IVOPSFG (Immense Vast Open Planetary Ship'ish Fighting Game)... wait no... no words can possibly describe this. wish my pc could even attempt to run this

  • You don't even need that much power, my laptop would run this.

  • you think a p4 pc with 1726 ram, a 128 mb videocard (radeon 9600 i think) can run it? I hope this goes xbox 360 ^^ at least there it can be ran at max :P

  • My lappy runs a 2.8Ghz oc'd dual core, 4gb 800mhz ram, 10,000rpm drives and 256mb DX10 video; there isn't much i can't run. That P4 of yours might pose a problem, and that video card you are using isn't DX10. Maybe consider updating your gaming rig....

  • not enough money to buy a new one

  • Xbox 360's gfx and processing aren't that great compared to a good comp with high quality parts. Run Fallout 3 on Xbox, then run it on a high end comp. The quality and speed difference will amaze you.

  • The lappy you decribe above is all kinds of powerful. In fact, with the 10krpm statement, I frankly doubt its existence [Must be a alienware or something] However, my laptop is 2.16 Ghz Core 2 Duo with 2 GB of RAM, and a geforece 7900gs, which can only barely play Crysis. Volumetric effects slaughter these kinds of cards.

  • You don't need much power, I get 30-60 FPS on my shitty AMD 3000+ 2gb ram Geforce 8500GT 512mb.

  • The best part is, these nebulae will be procedurally generated.

  • Which is good because the game universe would take up terabytes of data if it was handled traditionally.

  • bad. ass.

  • wow epic nice

  • wow... how the HELL did you pull that one off, this is blowing my mind, guys... how long have you been working on this project???

  • theve been working of it for like 4 years

  • EPIC WIN

  • that's awesome man! keep up the good work. can't wait til the game comes out.

  • Dude, you just pulled off 2 Million Point Sprites on a 2006-GPU in REALTIME

Not even Cryengine2 Can do this

  • the weirdest 30 secs of my life and it was cool

makes ou see how small you realy are eh?

  • WICKED SICK!

  • It looks absoloutly stunning. But I'd like to correct an innaccuracy: The dark clouds are just normal clouds that look black because of the cast shadow of the star behind them. From the star's side they wouldn't look black.

  • This is everything I ever wanted in a game. You guys are heros!

  • You will be able to jump to the stars inside of the nebulae, right?

  • Yes, you will be able to jump to stars within the nebulae and the space around you will show the nebulae correctly as it should appear from your viewpoint.

  • Dude, this game will be awesome,I can't understand u made such an awesome game,Hmm,If it comes out in 2009 I'll defenatley download,But,Erm when u drive a ship,Will the cam be frozen in back of ship,Or will u be able to adjust it and adjust distance of the cam?

  • Our combat prototype allows you to view the ship from inside or from a third person perspective. The third person view can be set from any angle or distance. The full game is almost certainly going to have the same capability although the external camera could be restricted to stop players using it to see things that should not be visible to them.

  • @InfinitySupport all you guys need now, is to eventually add life to planets...like say flying through the sky of a water giant and seeing massive whale like creatures splashing around and such. Any chances of being able to go into the water?

  • @InfinitySupport Just a quick question about infinity. I do know that there is a jump drive to jumpt to other systems and all BUT is there another kind of faster than light drive? You know like a drive that would allow us to manually head out of a solar system to lets say a distant part of a nebulae or pocket of gaz you know. That would really add a lot to the exploration. And would be nice to fly around a system fast.

  • @JOLEMONGOL of course! what would be the point in jumping to planets without being able to fly betweek them or explore more dynamically?

  • @InfinitySupport OMG this game is looking amazing so far !! When are you guys planning on releasing it ?

  • @SApcGUY When it's done. Remember that the game is being coded by a single man who is building the entire engine from a scratch.

But if you think you can make models, texturing work, concept art, music, UV mapping and all that jazz, head over to the Infinity Universe forum and check the contributions page to help speed up the development!

  • Amazing...

  • will you actually be able to fly through nebula?

  • It is unlikely that you will be able to fly through them in the sense of being able to watch them move past your ship. Nebulae are spread over interstellar distances and interstellar travel in Infinity will be acheived using hyperspace jumps. The nebulae will change depending upon which system you view it from however.

  • Is there a current estimate for Infinity's release date? Seems like it would take until mid 2008, depending on the last progress report in april.

  • The only true answer is "when its done". We're making constant progress and the development is very active. Current estimate would be public beta in fourth quarter of 2008.

  • @InfinitySupport

Lmao looking back I think we all knew this game wasn't going to be out for a long time and honestly I am completely fine with that because the scale of this game is so massive and my expectations for it are the same size. Huge.

Take all the time you need to get it done the way you guys want to get it done.

  • amen

  • OMG *drools*
