My rabbit likes them. Rabbits are actually pretty good about not eating things that aren't good for them. Orange slices are full of sugar and too much sugar isn't good for rabbits. A little bit should be fine time to time, but if you rabbit gets the runs afterward then you know better for next time.
Seriously, citrus is horrible for bunnies. They have a very fragile digestive system- you have to watch what you feed them. Please quit giving her/him oranges or any citrus- much too much acid. Try a small piece of apple or carrot- just as cute.
That's not correct, bunnies CAN have citrus, just not a lot. They do have sensitive digestive systems, but if you feed them lots of hay and good food, a bit of citrus fruit will not hurt the bunny at all. Besides, Carrot and Apple aren't that good for bunnies either. Apple contains alot of acid too and Carrot contains alot of sugars. Normal lettuce is actually best for them. Do some study before you go and nag about what people feed their pets!
@rednamrahc Thank you. I feed my bunnies a variety of fruits and vegetables. As long as they have a good ''base'' food and get unlimited hay, they should be fine. I feed them lettuce, tomato's(Lois's fav!), cucumber, tangerines, orange, apple, carrots, strawberries, grapes, blueberries, flowers, grass(fresh), cauliflower leaves(a small bit won't hurt them if they're used to it!!!!!!) and a variety of herbs. :)
@cookie4me haha for herbs I find their favorite to be parsley and cilantro :) and my bunnies ADORE oats. they can't get enough of them XD and we let our bunnies free range in our yard so they get a lot of natural plants too :) but be warned they can turn agressive if given to much freedom XD silly bunnies turning wild XD
@cookie4me I thought regular lettuce was the worst for bunnies. The special lettuces are ok in small small amounts. After a few thousand on vet bills after my bunny got an illness I would suggest not taking any chances if you love your bun.
@primeaudio it depends on the lettuce. Supermarket lettuce such as iceberg that you use in salads is not good for bunnies, but romaine lettuce, which can also be bought in supermarkets isn't bad for them. I suppose it depends on what you call regular lettuce. ^-^ But yeah, too much of even a good lettuce is bad.
@cookie4me when i got my bunny they told me not lettuce because there is no nutrients. i may as well just give them water. however, kale and other greens are best.
@cookie4me Carrots also contain a lot of water if you don't buy them directly from a farmer. My bunnies always gets diarrhea if it eats too many carrots and especially the ones from supermarkets :( Only buying them directly from farmers now.
@cookie4me Lettuce? Are you out of your mind? Lettuce is a terrible mistake! Too difficult to digest, you should inform yourself. Everything you said was right but Lettuce. Horrible mistake!!
@Titusman Actually, that lettuce is too hard to digest is a myth. I have consulted many people and even vets about it. Lettuce isn't hard to digest at all, I think you're confusing it with cabbage. Lettuce mainly consists of water.
@lberry1955 wow aren't you stupid they dont have anyone to feed them in the wild so they have this thing called INSTINCT not to eat anything that would kill them.
we have oranges as a diet and its to help keep us strong but rabbits dont have oranges the citric acids burn their insides slowly until the body gives up.
dont do this anymore!
research do bunnies have oranges or something like that.
Anyone with a working knowledge of the world knows that oranges have citric acid and bunnies have fragile stomachs that cannot stomach these acids. You are the one full of shit, "The only bad thing would be the sugar durr hurr"
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Search anything with rabbits and oranges you shithead and you won't find anything bad. Now search rabbits and too much sugar. Take that to the bank and fuck yourself with it.
You idiot, I'm saying you're wrong in stating the ONLY bad thing in feeding a bunny an orange would be the sugar. Although the sugar content in the orange would be a problem it is less of a threat to the bunny than the citric acid.
Okay, to dumb it down for you since you are obviously not the brightest (and probably a druggie from your username):
ORANGES HAVE CITRIC ACID. ACID + BUNNY STOMACH = HARMFULNESS.
It doesnt take a scientist too know that the acid inside of oranges are harmful to bunnies. If you knew ANYTHING about bunnies you would know this. You also cant feed your rabbit Ice Burg Lettuce because their digestive system are so fragile. Please quit acting like you know it all. Because you dont.
I must watch this Moo again and again, because his face is so amazing and specially his cheeks and nose are incredible sweet, the way he moves them. He is an enchanting animal, you are probably very proud of him! THANK YOU FOR MOO!!! :)
Bunnies should not eat orange PEEL. The oils it contains are a potent anti-coagulant in rabbits, and could cause internal bleeding if enough material is ingested. Orange flesh is fine for rabbits to have in moderation. Remember that too much sugar will upset the bunnies delicate digestive system balance and could cause blood-sugar issues if fed too much.
