how can you speak as 'on behalf of the working class'.They voted in Camerons govt. With no elected representatives, you don't represent anyone? You have to be policy implimentors,or you change nothing. Its great opposing everything, and striking, but you will change nothing
The left is fragmented, and dissorganised?. They have no credible party to organise around?.Most of the left wing downloads, attract very little interest. Most of the working classes, support capitalism. The momentum is with the right.Nigel Farage is getting 500,000 hits?.The left is loosing the argument? The working classes are moving to the right,
With democracy you always get losers. In a democracy 51% of the population controls 49% of the population. So every 4 years you get to vote for the party who will be a benefit to you, while millions of people suffer because of that choice. Then in another 4 years it may be that you suffer. So why is democracy heralded as the saviour? How about complete freedom for all, by ridding ourselves of a Government.
The so-called Left in Britain have, since the 1980s, changed in a fundamental sense - namely, class has been replaced by race, as the issue they are concerned with. That is why New Labour deliberately set about the Open Doors immigration project, because they knew they could rlely on the immigrant communities to vote for them, in exchange for all the advantages they get. The politically-correct Left abandoned the white, indigenous working class, and now it is reaping what it sowed.
Lindsay? Whilst I agree with the sentiments expressed by Judith, just a correction: the effort to push back "british jobs for british workers" and chasing the BNP off the picket line was predominantly played by the Socialist Party NOT the SWP, who stood back from that struggle initially.
A honest initiative requires an honest assessment, and that means recognising the role played by others on the left and accepting a certain autonomy within any left alternative.
