as the man said himself, he was in all likelihood as influenced by lennon as john would've inevitably been influenced by him. to think otherwise is foolish. they stand equally towering above the rest on the musical landscape.
dylan is the guy with ..."all the stuff"...sometimes he has failed for sure..in a spectacular way.....but nobody has touched him when he was on his game..he's already gone the distance...this is gravy.... sure enough..icing on the fucking cake.
this song has an epic feel ... the drum beats are like horses gaining momentum ... wondrous beauty of thoughts and feelings and images marching forward
Poor Sara. Nobody can grow up around that talented a person. You either serve them and defer to them or you are out. And even if you serve them and defer to them, you're still out.
This is probably considered to be a minor Dylan composition, but from the first time I heard it about 15 yrs ago or so it has been my favorite. The timing, orchestration, percussion, illusive lyrics are hypnotic to me. A masterpiece. As the video hints, I think it is about his life.
"And the cards are no good that 'youre holding....unless they're from another world" Incredible song, with the ghost of his past influences flickering through the video.
Don't know what you are listening too but i love the way his voice has evolved his his music, ageing gracefully like it should. He ain't 25 anymore, nor should he act or sing like it.
It's called evolution, if you're not listening his last 20 years of songs, you are missing out Big Time.
It's almost unfair how much better Dylan is than any other songwriter of the past 50 years. I think Dylan used to drive John Lennon crazy. Lennon could beat everyone-- except Dylan. I'm sure Lennon had a heart attack when he first heard "Subterranean Homesick Blues."
Why, do you want to lecture me on the greatness of Kurt Weill, Serge Gansbourg, Nick Cave, and Joao Gilberto? I love getting tutored in how to be a proper hipster.
Where did you disagree with me with "Lennon could beat everyone- except Dylan?" (A statement I only posited as true in the mind of Lennon.)
You didn't do that at all. Instead you said: "Are Lennon and Dylan the only songwriters you know?"-- suggesting I was entirely ignorant of the majesty of "Good Ole Boys."
Well I didn't know you posited that statement as true in the mind of Lennon. I disagreed with that extremely ambiguous remark when I said 'Are Lennon and Dylan the only songwriters you know?'. This showed that I disagreed with you because I believed you wouldn't say that if you knew more songwriters.
This is odd. I've just rewatched (about 5th time) the movie "I'm not There" (about Dylan) and almost every clip in this video has been portrayed in the movie. Usually it is the other way around if at all. It almost seems like they took the events combined in one video and make it into a movie. Just thought it was kinda weird so i thought I'd mention it.
I used to avoid these collage videos but really appreciate them these days ... such great memories from so many eras of zimmie's amazing life. And I absolutely LOVE this song! He really HAS gone the distance ... LUV YA 4EVER BOBBY!
There are so many things wrong with that comment about Johnny Depp. Depp f'in rocks. But He is way too hansom to portray such an androgynous badass!!!!
Someone mentioned they thought Johnny Depp portraying Dylan in a movie. I know this is going to sound retarded, but what about Adams Sandler...I think he looks like a fatter less mystic kind of Dylan, no?
They used this song in the final episode of John from Cincinnati as John and Sean surfed in from....uh..."Cincinnati".....lol. It's so uplifting. Thanks for posting this.
I'm mad at my laptop for not letting me turn this up any louder than it is. RAwrrr.

The long studio version is the more interesting one, if perhaps a bit wayward, but this has more impact for me.
"And the cards are no good that you're holding, unless they're from another world."
Damn, the man is good.

I can't stand Dylan's work from the past twenty years, "Oh, Mercy" notwithstanding. He voice is shot.
That said, this is a great @#$#$^& song. One of his best.

OK, I just looked at your profile-- you run to Leonard Cohen and Randy Newman, who I dig too-- but seriously, you're a snooty dork.
