  • Skip was such a complainer and a sourpuss. Saw him in the press box during an actual broadcast reading a novel.Although his best call was the famous "GUNS OF NAVARONE" game ending double play off the bat of Kevin Mitchell.Don Sutton always gave you a great description of the TBS movie during a

    Braves Games.

  • Ernie, Pete and Skip were the best broadcasting team in sports history, and no one is even close. When the franchise was at its worst in the seventies and eighties, we were still treated to these amazing personalities every night on TV and radio. They were warm and funny, they were pros, they called a great game, and they were utterly lovable. I spent countless pleasant hours laughing and going through every emotion with these guys and they were family to me. How lucky we were.

  • Skip and Pete are both legends.

  • Skip was joined tonight by his long-time broadcast partner Ernie Johnson, Sr. Ernie passed away Friday night, August 12, 2011. These two will be missed in the hearts of all Braves fans.

  • If he doesn't get in the Hall of Fame, it's a damn shame.

  • 3 years ago today. RIP Skip

  • greatest voice in baseball history

  • Skip Caray RIP

  • Does anyone else remember in the early 80s when he did the Hawks' games and when the Hawks had the game in hand, proclaim "Cocktail Hour". I had the t-shirt

  • from the Otis Nixon catch from over the wall to the legendary hit from Francisco Cabrera and the slide by Sid Bream, Skip Caray's voice will live on long into future generations of Braves fans and fans of the sport in general. God bless you, Skip. I know you're still announcing the big game up there.

  • Ernie, Skip and Pete were the perfect broadcast team. I have heard them precisely describe hundreds of games with my ear pressed against my transistor radio. I am one of many from the Southeast that grew up listening to the Braves. Thanks to all three men.

  • Forever he will be known for BRAVES WIN BRAVES BRAVES WIN.....

  • He was the best basketball announcer that I have heard. Even better than Marv Albert.

  • This voice brings back memories of hot summers nights in Alabama listening to WSB on AM with the fan in my room going, or when cable came, watching him night after night on WTBS. Skip had the honor of calling some of the worst baseball in history during the 1970s and 1980s, and his style and sense of humor is the only reason many of us watched (that and my mom loved the Braves). It was a real treat getting to see him call the glory years after 1991, and you could tell he loved it too.RIP, Skip

  • Born in 1980....I grew up wanting to play for the Braves and I always pretended Skip and Pete were calling my games when I was playing in the backyard. Wonderful memories.

  • I was born in 82 and grew up listening to the 90's Braves broadcasters. Skip was great.

  • Grew up listening to these guys. Absolutely loved his humor...rest in peace.

  • the summers still arent the same without you skip.

  • @auzach9191 well said

  • skip is the best. he was the sound of so many summers

  • Miss that voice!

  • seeing ernie harwell passed .. makes me think of SKIP

  • Don't forget Ernie Johnson guys- He was the best of all and he really had Skip's respect

  • Just heard Pete as a guest in the booth during the Phils game and really brought back great childhood memories listening to Skip and Pete.

  • Skip was and is a legend. Games just aren't the same without him.

  • skips the man

  • I miss you Skip. Love you dearly!

  • Growing up in Columbus, GA, watching Braves games on TBS, starting in the early 80's with Skip and the other guys... it just won't ever be like that again, will it? :(

  • It certainly won't. I have the same memories, starting in childhood and lasting all the way through to the early 2000's with the great foursome of Pete, Skip, Don and Joe working their magic on the best network on TV for watching baseball. It was special...and it's gone. That's progress for ya.

  • RIP Skip... Will miss listening to you and the Braves on the am dial !

  • I ve been a Braves fan since 75. I felt like Skip, Pete and Ernie were my friends even though I did not know them personally. The Braves are not as much fun as they used to be with all this network splitting crap, (sportssouth, foxnet, TBS,peachtree) things were a lot cooler when all the games were on TBS! RIP Skip we miss you!

  • This made me cry. I miss Skip so much. The games are not the same without him.

    :(

Joe Simpson, Don Sutton, Pete Van Wieren, and Skip Caray: That was a phenomenal broadcasting team.

  • Just like Skip was to the Braves Jack Buck was to the Cards

  • This video made me sad....even sadder because the way this season has turned around....Miss you Skip...

  • there will never be another Skip Carey, RIP

  • "He is...SAFE! BRAVES WIN! BRAVES WIN! BRAVES WIN!"

  • Still haven't gotten over the loss of Skip completely. Those of us who grew up listening to he and Pete on TBS and WSB no doubt understand. We Braves fans were treated to the best of the best for decades, and took it for granted. We're gonna miss ya, Skippy!

  • @ckrailvideo back in the day when the braves were losing, and skip would start talking about the bar he had gone to the night before. i miss him so much. he made the games fun.

  • I miss you Skip!

  • I so agree No comparison ever.RIP SKIP AND HARRY

  • Im still missing Skip.I hear his son Chip still using some funny comments his dad said.From this Longtime Braves fan since 1980 Thanks Skip.Your still being missed.:}

  • Yep, listening to the Braves is not the same.

  • Nicely done.

  • I still get excited when I hear his call of the Cabrera hit/Bream slide.

    Sorry, Pirates fans.

  • @MauryDann73

And the Pirates haven't made the playoffs since

  • I'm a Die Hard Astros fan, but the bottom line is this folks - when Skip and Pete came on TBS you knew you were going to get a good, quality broadcast. Baseball will forever miss Skip Caray.

  • well said my friend

  • Some of my first memories were of watching the Braves on TBS with my dad who was also my ball coach. Skip had such a great knowledge of the game. Even in those terrible years in the 80's when the Braves would routinely be way down in late innings his optimism always made me believe that Hubbard, Horner, Benedict, Murphy or SOMEBODY was going to make it happen. When the Bravos went to the World Series in '91 I was more happy for him then I was for myself. Skip you are the ultimate Braves fan.RIP

  • Skip Caray WTBS, Harry Caray WGN, what a pleasure to listen to both!

  • Skip will always be "The voice of the Braves" because no one else will come close to his unique brand of broadcasting games.

  • I don't think I'll ever forget his call of Atlanta winning the World Series in '95.

  • Listening to other team's broadcasts on my satellite radio, I feel sorry for other fans who don't have the quality broadcasting that we have enjoyed for so many years here in the southeast.

Many things in Baseball change. The players, the stadiums, even the uniforms. As fans, we fall in love with people like Skip because no matter what, when we turned on our radios we knew we would hear that voice saying "Good evening from Atlanta!"

Skip was indeed a baseball legend.

  • Not many people would agree with me, but I have always thought Skip was a better play-by-play basketball announcer. He seemed made for the tempo of the game. He was quick, critical, and quick-witted.

Of course, his baseball stuff is legendary in Atlanta. Saw him near the end of his life making a visit to Phipps Plaza where I worked. Nobody seemed to recognize him, but I sure did. I was in awe of the man. He'll always be the best our city ever had.

  • I'm 22 and I've been a braves fan my whole life. I still remember the first time watching a braves game. I was 6 years old and my dad was asleep on his recliner with the braves game on and decided Id watch. I watched every game I could from then on and always thought Skip was hilarious. I couldn't have imagined life without the braves on tbs and skip calling the game. I always wasn't as happy if skip wasn't calling the game. We'll miss you skip..

  • R.I.P. my man.. It was an honor listening to you.. Go Brew Crew Go Braves

  • Atlanta misses you, Skip!

  • Braves games are just not the same without Skip calling them.

  • I remember the Rick Camp 19-inning game on July 4 several years ago. It's been talked about and highlighted, for some reason, a few times lately, but for years it wasn't. I remember hearing the Rod Gilbreath grand slam at Dodger Stadium, back at a time when the Dodgers beat the Braves 4 out of 5 times. "An in-betweener here would be very nice," Skip used to say. "He fumbles -- gets it back." and "Bill Robinzine registers the points for Kansas City." ... "Eddie Johnson down the laaaaaane, good!"

  • Back before cable TV, I used to wait for the sun to go down enough for the WSB AM waves to transmit over the mountains to Bristol, Tenn., where I listened to Skip do the Hawks and Braves. Pete also did both Hawks and Braves at that time, too. I don't care what sporting event Skip broadcast, I watched it if he was behind the mic. Even when I moved to So. Calif. in the early 80s, I would catch TBS as much as I could in order to hear the greatest broadcast team in sports, Skip, Pete and Ernie.

  • Those were the days, weren't they? When I moved to Maryland, I discovered I could pick up WSB. It was a very weak signal, but still nothing beat those guys calling a Braves game during the post-season. They were a pure joy!

  • me too i lived in north carolina then good ole days

  • Skip was and always will be my favorite announcer. He was the only famous person I ever really wanted to meet. I'm so sad that I never got that chance. He was a true talent. Could make me laugh and smile no matter what was wrong in my own life. And when I think of the Braves, I think of him. He was the best.

God Bless you, Skip. Your family remains in my prayers.

  • I spent most of my childhood in Athens, GA. I remember his voice well. His death reminded me of many things, including my father's mortality. He isn't much younger.

    R.I.P.

  • where do we begin with skip carey every braves fan knows how special 1995 was to everyone who ever put on a braves jersey things have changed so much since then with television and ownership and stadium it is not how it used to be but things change and skip would be proud to see the braves win again I will miss u to buddy

  • Tell Harry we miss him too...God Bless

  • im only 18, but damn i hate this, i still remember the good ol days in the mid 90's watchin the braves on tbs pete, skip, don and joe, no only 1 of them is still there and they dont come on tbs anymore, i miss it, i wish tbs would put the braves back on there ..

  • not for 6 more damn years! i'm in iowa and i get those games either damn sportssouth!

  • i watched the braves on tbs from about 1994 till their last season on there in 2007...and ill never forget watching them and listening to those voices on a hot summer night with my grandfather. if i remember right i beleive they used to change broadcasters in like the 5th inning??

  • man i cant believe pete is retiring...two great voices lost this year

  • So touching. What a wonderful voice, lost. I'm only 16 but I've been a baseball fan since the 1995 World Series. While I was born and raised a Cubs fan by both my grandpa and uncle, my uncle also developed a love for the Braves, thanks to TBS. That was passed onto me, and currently the Cubs and Braves are my two favorite teams.

Skip is a voice I'll remember the rest of my life. His calls, much like Chip and Harry, still send chills down my spine, everytime. Thanks for this!

  • RIP, Skip.

  • I loved Skip's reply to his fellow announcer's remark about how the person at Candlestick Park doing the player intros was a female. "At least she's not a screamer like some of them are."

  • Would I have ever become a Braves fan were it not for Skip Caray? Possibly not. I will always remember fondly the years I spent watching TBS and Braves baseball and listening to Skip and Pete.

    :(

  • Wow.You could hear the Sadness in Petes voice.You could tell he was Hurting.Yes we will miss you Skip.Ever since i was 9 years old on that day in 1980.Hearing your voice along with Pete,Ernie,And jon.I was hooked.You are the Atlanta Braves.I look forward to attending The Cubs Braves Tuesday so we all can pay are respects to you.BRAVES WIN BRAVES WIN BRAVES WIN.RIP SKIP..THANKS..:{
