i just got an 8 year old percheron. today i tryed to ride him..i had him tied to the fence, he was fine i stood in the sturip and layed over him, no problem as soon as i started to put my leg over he started bucking and moving back and forth..im only as tall as his back.. what could i do to keep this big horse from throwing me down... i will try strapping his leg do u have any more sugestions for this huge horse. could u please help email me at amandawelsh1989@gmail.com thanks sooo much
Hmmm, I like it. As a trainer and instructor I have had some horses come in and have all the groundwork in the world, and still act up. the horse isnt in pain, and so far what I have seen is, like most horses, he knows he can get his bluff in, and If he bucks the rider will stop riding
Umm.. don't you think that they would have checked that first? And he obviously isn't in pain, otherwise they would have had that sorted out, this is just a behavioral problem.
I don't agree with this method or the methods in the other films, and think natural horsemanship methods would be kinder and better in the long run. BUT what he did obviously got a result and you can see that. I don't believe this man is truly compassionate or a true horseman in the sense of the word. In the end if he kept the horse off the meat market, and that's a good thing.
Alright. With my other comment, I heard that on TV, on a horse channel called RFD. Now, I'm sure everyone isn't agreeing with my comment, but thats what I heard. The rider was dealing with lead changes and the instructor told her to keep her horse at the trot so he wouldn't buck when she wanted to change her lead. So I'm sorry, but my comment was just what I've learned.
Never tried, or heard of strapping up a horse's leg on a problem horse. I always just led them into a pond chest deep, & jumped on bareback. They cant buck, or run and if you do fall off, no problem. With no pond available, I guess this is an alternative for a problem bucking horse.
Perhaps not, but everyone SHOULD, because accidents happen, no matter how experienced you are. My mare hasn't got any bad habbits, and I've been riding her for years, but I still wouldn't allow myself nor anyone else to ride her without a helmet. It's playing with your life.
It really pisses me off when all people can say is "they should wear a helmet" who cares? If people want to "play with there life" let them. Nothing anyone says is gonna change people. The yard I own prohibits people from mounting a horse without a helmet. Sometimes we go out without one but only in the summer when it's hot and we go to the lake, either way it's up to the person.
Helmets are like seat belts, if you don't where then your playing with your life.
its your choice but like any fashionable item like clothes, your choice may influence other peoples choice, especially children who should always wear a helmet and novice riders, i am guilty i riding helmetless but only on trusted horses and never in a high risk situation.
Thank's for showing this set of vids. I used it this past weekend, VERY USEFULL. Thought I would have a hard time takeing off the BUCK of my new horse!!! It really works!!!
Ummmm no offense but shouldnt he be wearing a helmet if he knows the horse bucks ALOT? could you tell me why he is not wearing one please thankyou!!!!
maybe he doesnt care to fall off? I also dont always wear a helmet, even though i know my horse can buck so badly that noone (well, maybe except a rodeo rider^^) could sit that....
I got a walking horse and I got more horses but when I bring her in she started fighting

wow, right in the beginning, you can see the horse flicking her tail... but good ground manners at least.

Interesting, never met a Haflinger that wanted to buck, she definitely was smart enough to have her owners buffaloed.

I'm sure all the horse needed was time, patience and the right person.

u could just do natural horsemanship, so many horses with "problems" can be changed into loving horses with naturalhorsemanship

Keep that horse at a trot! Horses can't buck if they are trotting. Just a idea.

@shycountrymiss I never heard of trying that in a pond, but what a good idea! Do you keep walking them in it until they get over bucking?
dovemaiden333 1 year ago
@dovemaiden333 Usually doesnt take more than once or twice in the pond. Im part native american & this is how we handled those we knew would buck.

He's obviously a good trainer.
He obviously doesn't want to wear a damn helmet.
No-ones gonna force him.

Its an Australian Stock saddle n it looks pretty old!! It might be a half cast though..
Stock saddles are pretty hard 2 fall out of because of the knee blocks at the front, which isn't always a good thing.

would you put a new saddle on that horse? bet not. You folks should see the piece of sh*t i use. Doing a great job Roger!
