  • yes she does sound like a newfie

  • @LordofMofo your nuts ba

  • @jeremydalton8 there are different accents and even dialects all over the island

  • @LordofMofo Yess by go lie down out of er

  • @LordofMofo Ya there are alot of different accents all over the island so it's not like there is one Newfoundland dialect. My accent sounds much like a south east Ireland accent where as others sound nothing like it. I almost pity those mainlanders that do make fun of us as they are ignorant and probably jealous that they don't have a cool accent. A central Canadian accent is perhaps the most bland and boring accent i have ever heard. Talamh an Eisc go braugh!

  • I tink I'm in luv b'y

  • wtf...accent is full of shit...ffs. newfie my ass...

  • Hahaha this is Awesome, Proud Newf <3 I most def still say some of these things, minus the accent.

  • i dont say this shit bahh!?

  • you don't sound at all like a newfoundlander

  • ohhhhh, so THIS is how people think ALL canadians sound like.

well. i was raised around toronto sooo i dont sound anything like this. lmaolmao.

  • haha!!this is hilarious!!...its like being in wexford/waterford!!

  • @kelcca Comparing Newfie to the "N" word is an idiotic thing to do. You might have been only called a dumb Newfie by coincidence. Because, to me, you seem to be a very arrogant and, to be honest, a not very smart person. To me, you deserve to be called dumb and should be ashamed to call yourself a Newfoundlander, Newfie, or whatever you want to call yourself. I suggest either stop doing dumb things like what you are doing now, or stop saying that you are from Newfoundland.

  • well byh i do den wheres u from den if ya dont speek like dat greeneyeyedblonde byhh

  • Im a newfoundlander and I DONT SPEAK LIKE THIS!!!

  • You speak like Montserratians.... they speak a broken irish brogue

  • I never knew they had Mummers in Newfoundland. I thought it was just a Wexford thing.

    Cool

    Daithí

  • @1964fagan Ya we have mummers in NL, most of the Irish in NL came from Wexford and Waterford. About 90% of the population can trace one or both sides of there family to Ireland.

  • any mainlander calls me a stupid newfie, ill come back with a bat and bash his head in... for not watching his mouth and having som fucking respect for sombody

  • @Can0fpepsi STUPID NEWFIE :) sorry i had to

  • @Can0fpepsi didn't mean it though

  • Why? Because I don't like being refereed to in derogatory terms. What would you know you never grew up there or had some mainland refer to you as a stupid newfie.

  • Others will say WTF did she say ??..

    All crystal clear here

Straight from the ROCK b'ys and all that dont understand

    yur stund as me arse

  • @flyyspit yesssssh b'ys love NFLD (born St.Johns Raised Conseption Bay South)

  • all these saying i heard and understood without a problem if your a true newfie like myself u would of heard them without a doubt....love al them sayingsssss wtgggg girll

  • im a newfiee and i don cARE IF U SAYS IT.AND IM PRETTY SURE I DONT SAY HALF THOSE WORDSAND MEMMERING IS ILEAGLE JS

  • WAS THIS ENGLISH!?

GEEZ! I couldn't even understand this and I have newfie friends.

  • @alexross8 this is more of a newfie accent that you hear in smaller towns, you don't hear this kind of accent from townies

  • @Flightkid9 Townies have there own accent, more of an Irish draw to there talk.

  • @kelcca ya but most townies don't have as strong an accent, some townies have very strong accents but it seems like most aren't as strong.

  • when i was a kid i worked with a guy from newfoundland. i called him a newfie (didn't know any better) and he told me that if i ever did it again, he'd beat the sh^t out of me. he was older and way stronger. so what's the deal? it is it offensive or not?

  • @movitmovit some people take it offensivly, but I'm a newfie and don't care, I call myself a newfie anyways

  • @movitmovit Hey. Ya it's totally offensive. It is a word used by Canadians to belittle Newfoundlanders. Growing up in Newfoundland the only time we used it was to degrade or insult each other.Just like the way African Americans use the "N" word, it's ok if we use it to insult each other but if some one who is not from Newfoundland uses it, it's offensive.

  • @kelcca good to know, although some other poster told me that it's not offensive at all. so... when unsure, the best rule is not to use it. :)

  • @movitmovit I think you'd be hard pressed to find a Newfoundlander that finds it insulting. Half my family is from Newfoundland and my husband's whole family is too. I've never heard of it being any sort of offensive slur. It's just an abbreviation. I suppose it could come across as offensive if you used it as such... but for the most part I've known it as an endearing term.

  • @wt042 Well the next time you are in NL give it a try. Call a Newfoundlander a newfie and see what happens. There is nothing endearing about. I have been living outside of NL for about 20 yrs now and the only time I have been called a newfie is as a insult. Most Newfoundlanders who don't find it offensive are usually the stereo typical newfies who have no sense of there race, culture and heritage. Who spend most of there time being stupid fucking newfies .

  • @kelcca You are an ignorant arsehole!

  • @kelcca You are an ignorant arsehole!

  • @kelcca you are an ignorant arsehole!

  • @mamenorman Fuck you

  • @kelcca Wow,talk about offensive! Considering I said most of my family is from NL you've got some nerve telling me the only Newfoundlanders that use the term are "stupid fucking newfies". That's when the term is offensive. When you MEAN it to be offensive. We use the term Newfie all the time in my family, it's a nick name... or sometimes even Newf (which is mostly reserved for Newfoundland dogs).

I never thought I'd meet a newfie with a sick up their ass, are you sure you're from the Rock??

  • @wt042 Fuck you , bitch ass mainlander

  • @kelcca LOL! Oooooh you called me a mainlander, how offensive. :)

See there is another example. You mean it to be offensive ... and yet there is nothing offensive in being called a mainlander. However if you use it as an insult it will then be insulting. There is nothing insulting in being called a Newfie, unless you say it in an insulting manner. You should be proud to be a Newfie. It's nothing to be ashamed of.

  • @wt042 To a Newfoundlander there is nothing more offensive than being called a mainlander, but you would not understand that.

  • @kelcca All I understand is that you are judgemental and rude and apparently hate being talked down to but have no problem tossing around slurs of your own.

  • @wt042 Really, this conversation is quite interesting... And you're both being a tad immature...

And before you say something silly like, "F off, stupid American," please note that I'm a born and raised Quebecer.

    Right then.

Terms are only offensive if they're meant as such. Compare "Quebecer" to "Newfie". They're both just words to show where a person is from.

    Silly people :P

  • @kelcca I am a born and bred Newfoundlander. there is nothing offensive about being called a Newfie. Nobody I know takes offense to being called that. I work in Alberta right now and when people ask where I am from, I proudly say that say that I am a Newfie. Big deal. Newfie is short for Newfoundlander. I have worked with guys who call me a Newfie, no problem. Some guys called me a dumb Newfie, they were given the boot the next day. The word "Newfie" is not offensive in the least.

  • @wt042 i think there is a percentage that do not like it, but the majority I don't think have a problem with it.

  • Now my dear....dats some good sayens ya gots goin on der. Lovely tell yer mudder!!

  • I got it all, only because I live in Newfoundland, haha, but her accent isnt too thick, shes tryin too hard.

  • hammer down

  • yer mudders never told ya'll to not say nothin if ya had nothing good to say or wah? Geez b'y...give 'er a break... the gal is only havin a bit of fun...loosin up.

  • yeah this is just stupid, comming from a newfie, you wouldnt say them for the life of yah

  • lol id say sure ur readin it off somthin soliidd

  • you can tell that accents put on. . you tried way to hard my doll!

  • if u a true newfie why do u have to read the shit lol ima newfie and i could say every thing there is off me head

  • Caught it all. I understood every bit of it

  • you disgrace newfies

  • @lukey67jets she sounds like shes from around the Burin area where I grew up, she sounds Newfie enough to me der b'y

  • Jesus b'ys u gotta calm urselves down a lil.

Being a NEWFIE is about being friendly and nice and kind-hearted.. u 2 aint showing much people that we are.. where ever ya are okay... where ever ur from great.. but all of youtube dont need to hear u guys fightin .. yes there is differnt slang used around NL and the accents differ as well. if u didn't know that then u dont get out much.. cuz a guy from Southern Harbour is gonna talk differently than a guy from Trout River. Me sayin it nice n all :)

  • @cutiecaitie3 the three people I know who lived in newfoundland are A: good cooks, B: friendly, C: women and D: very social, and 2 are outgoing, one is less so but she hasn't lived in newfoundland for a fair while, whereas the other two moved here relatively later in their life

  • @noobler9 oh, the quiet one also says things like ohhhh deaar, ohhh deaar, while smiling a lot usually :p

for someone that lives on the west coast of canada I have a lot of contact with newfies o.O

  • lol. Are you from somewhere near wareham? You sound just like my aunt.

  • what about one two tree :p

  • I'm from newfoundland but i dont have a newfie accent

  • @Scottdahockeyman15.. i never had an accent. but thats cause i'm from corner brook and i lived in ontario.. but my dads from down the bay, and everytime i goes down there, i can here my accent get a lil thicker..

  • "Got me drove"

    That one's so funny!!!!

  • wtf?

  • Hahaha i'm nova scotian so i only understood half of this

  • i understand this ;p , but i think its cause i was born in newfoundland & lived there for 5 years ;D

  • says it all kinda awkward.. nice try though lol

  • haha i talks like dat to ; D xD loves it i do by

& i says oh me nervessss! i moved away from da bay 7 months ago i lives in NB now and i says some things and der like what are you saying? xD i wouldn't give up my newfie accent for the world i loves it i do.

  • alsome, great job

  • This Is Wat I Have To Say About Her Accsent Im A Newfie Meself 15 And She Does Not Have A Newfie Accsent If U Heard Me Talk You Be Like WTF Slow Down

  • i understood everything there

and we say most of those sayings here

    ;D

  • u gotz a face only a mutter would luv

    lol

  • Thats crazy, "how's she getting on, boy?" sounds like such a typical cork/waterford thing to say.

  • hearing all of those makes me think of my Newfie nan; she told my cousin to mind his mouth more times than i can count, and i always heard "give us a bitta dat."

and my mom, even when she moved to the states forever ago, she still says "me nerves". haha i love it so much.

  • Well I likes it! Thanks for uploading this. So many variations of one language.

  • @lukey67jets Uh, yeah she does. My aunt has the same accent, and says a lot of the same things.

  • @autumnsylver do you know what a god dam newfoundlander sounds like.

  • @lukey67jets Yeah, I do. My whole family is from Newfoundland. I was born there. I also know that there are different accents in different areas of Newfoundland, which it seems you don't.

  • Comment removed

  • I like it :) Haha just wish I knew what they mean... my friend keeps speaking like that and i'm always like 'what?' I did find it a bit hard to understand, but that's probs because i live in Australia. It wasn't to hard to understand though, I remember when I went there in grade 9 and we were waiting to go on the boat and some guy started talking to my parents and I thought he was speaking another language. But i got most of what you said. :)

  • luvs it ``

  • im canadian and didnt understand that at all hahaha!

  • @pterodactyls

What does being Canadian have to do with understanding Newfoundlander's? : )

  • I love it...

I hope you don't mind if I come back here and help me remember some of this..

I left Newfoundland when I was young and grew up in Ft McMurray, Ab.

I have been pissin around telling jokes as humor and I hope you find funny.

Some people don't know how to laugh at themselves..I find if I can insult myself better then the trolls they tend to go away.

    :)

Drop by and see how many make you laugh or piss you off so you want me killed which I hope isn't the case..

    lol

  • ashleymstewart , its newfoundland, not newfieland you idiot. obviously you don't live here if you dunno how to spell it

  • Thats some similar to the wexford accent!

  • what part of newfoundland are you from...? your accent isnt very strong lol

  • C'mon Newfoundland, the 33rd county!

  • I love newfieland !! lol.. not easy being on dis rock!!

  • ur all stupid ,trying to be like newfie like me and was her name

  • Thats the oldschool newfie accent. She's a dying breed, thanks to modern communication and media. Keep it strong, you may be the last generation of Newfies to have a strong accent

  • @warbongkingfu dont know why youd want to keep it strong.. nobody likes it hahaha

  • i am from newfoundland and everybody down there doesnt talk like that, theres all kinds of accents on the rock.

  • Jeez Louise can you guys read? It says NEWFIE. LOL! Ther's a lot of Scot influence in there too;p

  • Something between Irish and Scottish maybe?

  • you got er....irish and scottish settlers b'y.

  • yes we is

  • You can see the Irish influence on the accent and slang.

  • mumbling

  • not in newfoundland.

  • HEY REDDIT"!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • as an aussie - could translate: if I had face like yours I sew my balaclava on backwards and you're slow as cold molasses... no idea what molasses is so I'm pretty sure this isn't australian.

  • I'm confused. The title says it's a Newfie accent. Why is everyone talking about Australia? Newfie is a person from Newfoundland in CANADA. And molasses is a dark, thick syrup similar to maple syrup but of course, a much different taste.

  • @aefihqlefnksv molasses smells funny ):

  • @aefihqlefnksv shes reading off the internet!! i know that stay were yer at till i come were yer to, im from there so : P

  • @aefihqlefnksv lol molasses is similar to maple syrup?????? in what way? molasses is definately not a canadian novelty

  • @metsaaan That may be, but my nan always says "Slow as cold Molasses". Newfound is very different then Canada. Even though we joined, we are an island, so there is not much influence from Canada. There is not even very many people who arnt white. "Slow as cold molasses" may just be a Newfoundland thing, ive only ever herd it here.

  • @SpencerM1A1 hey relax im not trying to invalidate your newfie culture. i know how newfies are, and i know about your heritige and demographics. what i DIDN'T know, though, is that you like to whine about being different from the rest of canada (unprovoked!). but i'll add that to my newfie facts list, thanks. what i said had nothing to do with newfies. are you so insecure that you need to imagine someone insulting your province so that you can defend it?? im also from an island of white people.

  • @metsaaan You are right, Newfoundlanders bitch about everything. It's just a habbit ;) haha.

  • @metsaaan I didn't say it was a Canadian novelty, just trying to explain what it is for those who don't know. Also, they are similar in that they are both a dark, sugary syrup... as I wrote in my comment. I'm not sure how much clearer I could be? I was giving context for those that aren't familiar with molasses.

  • sounds like Wexford (Ireland)

  • it does. in addition to englishmen, newfoundland was originally populated by Irish settlers from waterford/wexford.

  • sounds very similar to some old wexford sayings

  • Wow! I don't think I've ever heard anything quite like this! Facinating.

Most of the translations, I get if i have a minute, but "Goin'? She wudden't goin' now I know - (Moving at great speed.) " baffles me even written. How could THAT mean that?

Still, that's awesome and I hope it never changes!

  • Um, if you are going to BOTHER to make this how about showing your mouth actually speaking.

  • she's a newfie!

  • didn't catch much of that at all

  • Sounds a little Aussie-ish.

  • it doesn't sound anything like Australia accents!

    it's sounds English, i think

  • It's not suppose to sound Australian, it's a Newfie accent from Newfoundland in Canada.

  • Irish mate...

Believe me, going into a Irish pub and saying you all sound like the English ant gona get you any friends...

  • My Australian housemate says you're a bastard. I say you're stupid.

  • i recognise a word or two in every twenty...

  • the fuck is this gibberish

  • hahaah i hears this stuff all da time, but its pretty funny to hear it on youtube cuz its normal for me. lol

  • Great accent. I love it. It's as unique as the Boston accent.

  • What?!?!

Most of those things sounded like Tongues or something to me?!

  • it,s alot like a waterford accent in ireland

  • another intelligent comment from UpInDaHood4Reelz!

  • I'd like to upvote ya, but I can't (terribad rating system on youtube).

Anyone can pick phrases from their region and spit them out with no context and make no sense.

The accent is killer, but it's demonstrated in a horrific way here.

  • I always say, 'Hows she cuttin'?' and 'I'm just razzin' wit'ch by' '.

    lol good job xD!!

  • thats great havent herd any in along time
