The desire for rational, accountable and representative government seems "self evident", but a great deal of background noise has obscured that intent these past two centuries. People simply want our government to follow the rules or to convince us to change them, as any government should.
The Tea Party is NOT racist, filled with homphobes, and considering they start most rallies with the Natl Anthem and prayer you'd be hard pressed to suggest they have something against free expression of religion.
Usually these people are on the left (not neccessarily Democrats, but mostly) who prefer to have an ever expanding Federal govt that results in more and more syphoning of private citizens dollars in order to fund itself.
They believe in lower taxes, and drastically reducing irresponsible govt spending to reign in it's growth.
NOW, the other posts you will see are posted from people who immediately begin attacking this group. These are people who have never been to rally, or bothered to research it for themselves, other than to take their queses from certain media outlets who feed blatant lies.
Well my Canadian brother, I'm sure you can already tell that there are two groups who have different "definitions" of what the "Tea Party" stands for.

The Tea Party isn't a party, or a platform, or an organization, despite the fact that there are now several national organizations claiming similar titles. Besides the fact he stated that he is Canadian so likely not as familiar with all of the intricacies of American politices just as you would not be familiar with all of the intricacies of Canadian politics. There is nothing wrong with asking questions when one does not understand somthing or a position, that is what people who wish to be informed do. Those who ask no questions are typically happy to live in ignorance.

The Tea Party is made of well intentioned yet misguided and naive fed up people that want to return to a simpler time. They claim integrity, want to abolish taxes and preach “work and be responsible for you” and would turn the Nation into a Christian Village. Guns are the norm and sexual conduct is limited to a narrow path. Nice but not practical. A well polished politician would easily be able to lead these guys into the grips of fascism. Refreshing to see a grassroots movement catch on though

The tea party speaks in wide generalizations about such things as "common sense" and and "small government" but offer almost nothing in the way of specific policy proposals, preferring to claim that their ideas alone are patriotic, while disparaging the integrity and patriotism of any who they see as outside their loosely formed "movement" They often use the terms "socialist" "fascist" "communist" "Nazi" "liberal" and "progressive" interchangeably.

The Tea Party isn't a party, or a platform, or an organization, despite the fact that there are now several national organizations claiming similar titles. The real Tea Party, the one that brought hundreds of thousands of citizens to rally on the mall, the one that took local politicians to task at town meetings, they're just people. People that read the Constitution and history books and saw a disconnect between the blueprints for our government and what it has now become.

It seems like the Tea Party Movement started out as a disjointed collection of voters dissatisfied with government growth and spending who held some core Libertarian ideals. It would actually be nice to hear what the Tea Party agenda is. What laws they want effected. What statutes they wish to be mandated, instead of this constant "we want oyr country back" ... which doesn't mean much to me or anyone. They scream "lower taxes" .... and that's it. I'd like to know what their stance is on foreign policy, infrastructure, fiscal procedure, education, health & safety, agriculture, fisheries, mining....Nobody seems to be able to tell me ANYTHING about their stance.
