just realised after all these years... put a real musician in a cold undressed studio without an audience: all that can shine is the musician. OGWT was so right.
@iop666iop I know you're probably trying to get a rise out of people, but it's true that someone who writes beautiful, sensitive songs is not necessarily an angel at home - John Lennon also had a questionable attitude to women. Martyn was a musical genius but a fool to himself, drinking himself to an early grave and robbing the world of more of those wonderful songs. he could be mesmerising live, but just as often I saw him drunk and annoying in concert, never without a smile on his face though.
catchtag22 I remember John saying he played there for years and didn't realise the place had a French name and just thought it was owned by a bloke called Les Cousins 8o) God bless John
my dad got me into john martyn as a kid, he took me to see one of his gigs (coincidentally one of his last), and he used to play me the records and sing along with him on his guitar. i never really appreciated him when i was younger, but now i understand what it's all about, because it's just beautiful :)

I didn't know of this song until Kathy Mattea sang this as a tribute to John after he passed away. After listening to John singing it, I think Kathy did it justice. This is a song that should put a smile on your face.

@MadProgresser yeah i half agree with you, But wouldnt it be good if music like this was what the masses listened to and not the complete shite thats always so popular!
The masses did listen to good, original music and bought it in their droves during the '60s and 70s. The '90s saw the start of the rot, and now most just want to listen to Gaga and Britney thinking that's great music.
