@S1NNER48 I'm not one for 'bigging up' politicians but you can't blame them for everything. As a society we have been irresponsible with borrowing and the banks irresponsible with lending. Basically we have more than we can afford, because we could, now we can't. That's my view anyway. Problem is everything has been expanding for years so all of our jobs have been secure, everyone is getting nice bonuses etcetera, now all good things must come to an end unfortunately. Blame bankers...

@SLATEX1 ...blame ourselves. But it's not fair to just blame government. Whoever was running the country would have been in exactly the same position. I do think asa country we should have put money aside for a 'rainy day' but retrospect is easy to say, hard to action. Part of the problem, which has it's benefits too - is that we expect too much and far too much waste occurs from the inefficient public sector, to the overpaid politicians, to the people who don't want to work we must act now.

@sweetypie000 interesting view, why do you think we're in so much debt? Surely you can't put that down to the tories?!! I don't blame Labour entirely as it is a global crisis and every country, except the fast developing countries are feeling the pain. At least the Conservatives are actually trying to REDUCE the deficit. But sadly whatever we do it will take years for us to recover. The problem is you can't build a false economy, you need naturally created jobs from new/expanding companies.

Nothing will change in the near future. They rule the land with an iron fist. The only way forward is sacking the lot of them in one go and no bad apples remaining to poison the new ones.

I'm a strong believer that people shouldn't be judged on their backgrounds, to a large degree I think ones background is irrelevant it's not about where you've been it's where you're going. @SLATEX1 ...wealthy and this causes two issues, (i) making them out of touch from the rest of society; I think MP's should be paid the national average salary (about £26k??) and Prime Minister and Senior MP's should get performance related pay, this would make them work for their money...anyway second point is (ii) they are naturally going to 'stick up' for those better paid as it's in their interest to protect their earnings/inheritance. I agree it will take a long time for things to improve.

We have a minority of people (who fair enough were elected but also need to listen more!), standing in Parliament discussing huge issues affecting you and me, yes they say they're representing the views and interests of their constituents, but lets face it how many times have you asked for your views by your local MP.
