  • I have a problem. I did just as you in the vid, and it baked me a normal map just fine, an the uvw coordinates look good too. However, when i apply it in the material editor, it puts the /whole/ map on each side, and not only those parts that were assigned to it by the uvw coordinates. What should I do? Please help!

  • That's funny, I throught that 3ds max only support bump map and not normal map.

  • I can not bake this shit.

  • Got ma 3d model ready but not sure where to start from, I want to apply texture, normal map, opacity, specular and diffuse map, can any one please tell me what should be applied first? does normal comes first or the texturing n other maps?, I have finished unwrapping my model.

  • what did u press at 1:36

  • thanks heaps, this helped so much

  • @dan5her

    Enjoy!

  • Great vid cheers. I'm very new to this, the only trouble I had was figuring out the second flat panel goes UNDERNETH the panel with the bevelled extrusions.

Also I didn't realise straight away that the normal maps I was creating were saving in a totally random location (my pics file) and not the 3dsmax/screen assets/images. But everything was still very helpful.

  • Welcome

  • very succesfull tutorial, and it is easy

  • Following this video DOES NOT produce a normal map on 3DS Max 2010 64-bit. Just a grey and red map.

  • music would help.

  • Thanks, man! A tip for Oblivion Modders:

Choose the "Tangent" bubble in the "Options" button in the "Projection" section of the Render to Texture window.

This will give you the familiar mostly-blue texture if things seem wrong w/ the other options. You will also note that in the "Options" section, the directions change from X and Y (or whatever) to the more often described "Left/Right" and "Up/Down".

  • also if u choose light map that will render out an ambient occlusion map that helps when texturing. i also add a skylight in my scenes to get the lighting info for the projection. and if the mesh is smoother in the edges it helps for extra details.

  • Oh that is I needed for my model! Thank you good video, and followable!

  • audio would be nice because of small text... but the viseo is great

  • Add &fmt=18 in the link. You can read the text very easily now.

  • verygood

  • you should comment your vid, it's not always easy to see where u go...

  • Easy to follow, not a single word said, congratulations. And thanks :D

  • excellent

  • Thank you very much for this tutorial :)
