  • The problem is that today these kids don't have anywhere to go, I recall back in the 70's and 80's there were so many bars and clubs around the city that the gay kids back then could go to.

  • those white old men know they like those banjee boys, why not film the johns also.

  • the village is all "THUGGED OUT" now....i miss the late 80's through out the 90's in the VILL....i used to love WEST 4TH ST....my favorite hangout spot

  • How dare you! Do you have any idea of how things are! And why they are the way they are?! The Village is a Place for people who are different to go to and feel safe, if anything maby its the people like you! Yes you put us! But you know what why waste my time on ppl like you...

  • This video looks like a guy videotaping people who DO NOT want to be videotaped....

Don't live in New York if you can't handle different kinds of people...fucking yuppie.

  • Uh oh, sounds like some bleeding heart limo lib is upset that some of those horrible negro people have taken over his precious little West Village. This cancer has spread throughout the city for decades, while you and you ilk chose to champion this infestation as vibrant, diverse and culturalry tolerant. So now, choke on your handiwork and your newly found NIMBY attitude, and enjoy watching your little lib fantasy land degenerate into just another NYC toilet. Reap what you sow.

  • This is what NYC is all about. Street life. If you don't like the vibe, leave.

What I have noticed from watching this video is people in general are noticeably overweight, real shlubby, compared to the lean, streetwalkin' night cheetahs in NYC videos shot in the breakin' 80's and disco 70's

  • Not for nothing but don't you notice theyre mostly black? its infested with prostitutes, drug dealers, and perverts.EVERYONE AT THE WEST VILLAGE IS GAY no matter how straight they look.

  • Pssh, where would we be without drug dealers?

  • Look at this place. European cities are so much more vibrant, friendlier, and less grim. And people's comments on here act like they are proud of this area. Like they're tuff and wear a badge of honor. It's depressing that americans have let their cities turn into this. It's not something to be proud of and as you grow older and raise a family maybe you will learn. Peace

  • Don't think it's that bad...seems like summer scene...whole bunch of people going to the city. The video does not show the overall picture...video picked and chosed. Hell yeah there are bad aspects...like most part of our beautiful city...I do admit though the east village has become a cooler place to hang out.

  • What a bunch of do-nothings! Half of them look like their daddys are in jail and their mamas are on welfare!

  • Luckily the people, both gay and straight, who have always lived in the Village will soon be putting a stop to these invaders. Money talks.

  • I agree with you, JohnyRatchet. And it's not about gay or straight, it's about a bunch of criminal-types who don't respect the neighborhood they're visiting.

  • fuckin cancer , good for organ transplants

  • Go back to where you came from. You''ll never understand or make it in this city.

  • It's so funny how I'm not the only one who noticed this doesn't really resemble the current mood of the neighbourhood... what is left of it anyway???? I'll take some reality with my big city please!!?? If you don't like the heat get the fuck outta the kitchen and stop whining that the city isn't like your Disney Network happy land. The "improved" NY is nothing but unafforable housing, ugly retail shops, and overpriced trendy food. Thanks for killing Chris Street! Used to be cool anyway...

  • Damn what are these peoples deals with being videotaped? They seem really upset about this. Also, is there another Christopher Street in another West Village in NYC? I have been to this area many times at all times of the night and there have never been a bunch of blacks dealing drugs and causing trouble like this. Always a bunch of yuppie hipsters that go to NYC.

  • are you serious. when the hell was this vid made? have you been there lately, all I ever see is bunch of god damn snobs!

  • Hopefully these Christopher St. kids chase out these yuppie transplant scumbags. That's what you all get for trying to turn the West Village into a fucking cultureless suburb, you bland Wonder Bread transplants. .

  • the 'kids' can't afford to live anywhere in Manhattan.

  • The lowest forms of life can be found in the village. Groups of black kids roaming the streets all night hooting and howling. Where do they all come from?

  • Scary !!!!!!!!!

  • OMG ! Black People! LOL YOU GOTTA BE KIDDING ME...YUPPIE GO HOME....WE ARE SICK OF YOU COLONIZING OUR NEIGHBORHOODS NOW YOU KNOW HOW IT FEELS

  • roll threw d.c and film. YOu wikl come up on a milk carton. Stay in he suburbs

  • this is not your neighborhood

these elements that you see as wrong

are a part of new york city life

and you are lucky that it is as contained as it is now or you

and your foolish fucking camera and attitude would have never made it home to cry on the internet

  • Listen to the animals on the video. The village has been ruined by these deviants.

  • Actually, the Village has been ruined by you yuppie transplant scumbags who are trying to turn it into a bland suburb just like whatever shithole you came from.

  • Exactly. Thank you.

These yuppie transplant scumbags think the whole world has to change for them.

  • Thank you for noticing the same thing I did! Let them go the hell back home if they don't like the big city and stop tearing apart people's communities because they can't handle a little real life!!!! Damn products of safety bubbles...

  • white people are so stupid...go back to the suburbs and stop colonizing our neighborhoods...

  • lol

  • Why don't you go back to where you came from? The WV was always predominantly white historically. The issue isn't color, it's behavior and respect.

  • What the fuck do you know about the West Village? Go back to Pennsatucky, you yuppie clown.

  • If I were to go back to where I came from, I would move back to Perry Street where I was born and raised.

  • this video is very true...i live in brooklyn but i go to the vill every once in a while and its fullllll of hookers and drugs and drammmaaa

  • There's very little drama. I've lived on Christopher St for 3 years and never seen any real problems. Some hookers, some drugs, some arguments now and again but that's all. Generally people just trying to have a good time. I'm from London originally. I feel a lot safer in the Village than in equivalent parts on London.

  • The armpit of NY? Do you ever make it out of Manhattan? It must be so hard for you in the WEST VILLAGE!!! Sorry, it's VERY hard to take this seriously and it SCREAMS gentrification, in all the worst ways. West Village WAS a multi-ethnic and gay neighborhood before owners (many of them gay and white) started selling out to folks like yourself for more $, who are now driving around nervously videotaping. If you want peace and quiet, why don't you move to Connecticut?

  • Gentrification, yeah maybe... I have to admit I don't love noise from 2am-5am on weeknights but... that is city living, however for me it is the prostitution, pimps, drug dealers, and violence that must go. I don't think whether you are poor, middle or upper class, you should have to put up w/ it. So if by gentrification you mean people have moved in that won't sit back and accept this criminal behavior, than maybe yeah.

  • Then why the fuck did you move there if you knew that was going on you idiot? Live like a city person and look the other way and stop whining.

  • in big cities you always have bad neighberhoods, same in london, paris, brussels..

its a part of big citylife.

  • lol what.. the east village has always been like this... NEW YORK IS AND WAS ALWAYS LIKE THIS...

  • I live in NY now not far from here in Greenwich Village. I moved here from London and can tell you that New York is nowhere near as rowdy or unsafe. I have seen 2 fights on the street in total on nights out in New York. In London I used to see two every night. I walk around New York at night all the time and feel safe here. I cannot say the same about London. Maybe the situation is not as bad as you make out.

  • Prostitution happens EVERYWHERE...try going to TimeSqaure even and see it take place...drug dealers are EVERYWHERE. So for you to signal out the gay society and one of the only places gay youth or gay in general can go without feeling DISCRIMINATED against is ridiculous

  • Just b/c PROSTITUTION and DRUG DEALRS are "EVERYWHERE", it does not make it right. I am not singling out the gay society, I am concerned about MY NEIGHBORHOOD. If I lived in Time Square, I would film Time Square. Gay youth belong in the West Village and should not be discriminated against! This video is NOT about gay or straight, black, white, or yellow. It is about being able to feel safe where I live! If you are suggesting that all gays are pro-prostitutes and drug dealers? You are wrong!!!

  • uao these town is infested with only afro american people incredable

  • You must read Drifting Toward Love by Kay Wright a seminal piece about the lives of queer youth of color in the Christopher Street Piers and the resistance they are partaking against neoliberal policy that seekes to erase their presence and existence.

  • I will try and pick it up ...See here is the thing - got nothing against gay youth hanging in the West Village, it is a home for them and has been for decades. A lot of my closet friends are gay/lesbian including my sister. It is the prostitution, pimps, drug dealers, violence, and threats of violence that must go.

  • I never seen to many afro american peopple in ny like I just did

  • ***** Thank you for your Video's. of Christopher St, The Trannies. For many years I operated Hell Fire Club on West 14th & 9th.

Your footage captures the Feeling of those days. Keep up the Great Work. Lenny NYC

  • I guess the ghetto gays need somewhere to go. I live in NYC and love the West Village but I'm never on Christopher St later than 11or 12 at night. I usually head to Chelsea or Hells Kitchen by then. Now I know I definitely don't want to be there later in the evening. They all come from the PATH train from Jersey. A couple of years ago one of my friends who was visiting got chased by crack addicts at the Chase ATM across from Monster. He had to seek rufuge in Maries Crisis. Ironic.

  • So you got bored out on Long Island & decided to videotape folks hangin' out in the village? The west village always had an "edge", if you don't like it, go hang out at the mall!

  • You don't know anything about the village.

  • Excuse me for having zero sympathy for a bunch of yuppies who moved to Christopher St. and are complaining because it's not like the suburbs they grew up in.

    Idiots.

  • Looks like NY to me, you dont like it move the fuck back to Indiana pussy

  • Was in the village last week and walked up and down Christopher late. Sure you get a few propositions for sex or drugs. That's what I go for! That is what makes it so special, however, I would not dream of taking a camera down there. Canal St in Manchester UK used to be the same - now it's been 'cleaned up' and no one goes anymore. Stay dirty and fun Christopher I love you x.

  • i love the guy sayin " who the fuck told u to wear that mess?"

  • "Da police are doin' nothin'." theolcf is correct. You're an idiot.

  • Nice hyperbole. Anyway, Greenwich has always had this stuff. Point is that it's not actually worse at all, it's BETTER than it once was. Certainly nothing extreme like you make it out to be. Maybe you didn't realize that a few negative elements were in the area so you THINK it's getting worse. You're in no real danger, except when you decided to go around and point cameras in strangers' faces in the middle of the night. OMG, they're hostile! Shocking!

  • Whoever put this together doesn't know their New York history. GV was dangerous place in the 1980's and early 90s. Then it was way more "wild" than this! I guess your comparing it to the the late 1990s when Rudolph cracked down on the place? Yes?

  • thats fucked up

i used too live in the west village when it was full of rich people.

now just watching this video i see the fucking low lifes took it over

  • Butch1026 & Megalon84 sound like wise citizens that every community would be lucky to have... "There is crime in Bed Stuy and other neighborhoods, so that makes it okay for there to be crime in the West Village." Great logic, People are being murdered in Darfur so who cares if people are being murdered in the United States. Makes a whole lot of sense. Why try to make anything better, we should all just kill ourselves now.

  • "don't tape it, don't tape it" lol

  • white folks reality of you racist system. is right your face. who cares. black and latinos put up whith this shit every daily in the hood. oh well. get use to it this is your future.move back where came from. you fucked it uo up. now clean it up.

  • what dou u expect thisccis not canada or somewhere cival. this part of america too

  • Ridiculous. West Village isn't perfect but its very safe regardless of some shadiness. One of the best NYC neighborhoods. It was a lot worse in the 90s, moreso in the 80s. Not seeing where this sensationalist video is coming from. Did you just move here, take a walk past your area of comfort and realize that it isn't just yuppies? Maybe you should take a look at some truly fucked up NYC areas in need of serious revitalization and stronger police presence (Bed Stuy, Mott Haven, Hunts Point, etc).

  • You're an idiot. It's New York.

  • i wouldn'd do that god only knows what they would do.

  • This trash used to hang out in Times Square , when they cleaned up Times Square it was like stepping on a bunch of roaches in a corner, they all scattered, Thank you Mayor Dinkins

  • Did anyone here the voice say "Yo I'm gonna slash that nikka with the camera" around 49 seconds in???

  • wow dats shit cuz i go and is true ma pimps and shit but soo wah go 2 hunts point same shit

  • 2 girls smoking weed. Wow man call the armed forces

Whoever made this video is scared of young black and latinos.

Come people its the Village!!!! It always been like this. The difference now is there are more blacks and latinos in the area.

  • Did you watch the whole thing? If you do, you will note prostitutes, drug deals, pimps, and fighting - which all leads to even more dangerous street crime and unsafe behavior. This might not bother you "BloodSport" but it does make for an uneasy feeling when you are walking home at night ...and this was all shot on one random night, in a 3 hour span. Some nights are better, some worse...

  • This is what, one street? I agree that some of the neighborhood is *ahem* a less than desirable place to be, but you can't call the entire west village the armpit of New York. It's been my home for several years and as a teenager I have never been uncomfortable. It's a wonderful place.

  • are you serious. The West Village is one of the nicest neighborhoods in america. Whoever filmed this had one intent and thats to make it look like a bad neighborhood.

  • dangerous man, dangerous. I live in Manchester U.K. and to be honest its pretty much the same in some places. This was a year ago whats it like now?

  • I lived in nyc for over 25 years. The village has been the same.

  • Got tired of Harlem I guess.

  • why don't they read a book !

  • it was a public place that requires no admission (in which case the venue owns rights to activity) then any images captured are yours to sell or do anything you like within the law. The only way you would need the participant's permission is if they were in an environment where they could have some "reasonable expectation of privacy".

  • I honestly don't get it...other than the dealers...that just looks like Dallas or DC during the weekend. You should also no it's illegal to film people without there written consent.

  • it was a public place that requires no admission then any images captured are yours to sell or do anything you like within the law. The only way you would need the participant's permission is if they were in an environment where they could have some "reasonable expectation of privacy".

  • So there's a little more color in the hood, what's so bad about that?

  • Possibly one of the scariest 5 minutes I've ever experienced.

  • tell me about it! It's just too sad!
