  • YES!! Been looking for a guitar do go along with Modest Mouse. My 77 Ibanez Les Paul won't.

  • i dont know it, what is johnny marr's email?

  • where can i get the tab for this?

  • Just send Johnnie Marr an email and he'll send you the tab. Or you could just watch DE's fingers.

  • whats his email address?

  • @acr08807: so do you know johnnie marr's email?

  • Everybody knows Johnny Marr's email.

  • awesome tele awesome cover

  • yup

  • sounds like the beach boys.. i like it hahaha

  • Dan? Did you add bass to this one or is that just you hitting the lower strings?

  • it's just the lower strings on the guitar man

  • i am trying to purchase a 72 custom. how does one achieve the tone you have crafted?

  • compliments on your tone!

  • y'all probs. don't remember "getting away with it" the song he did w/New Order's bernard sumner - anyway the 12 inch riff is very similar if u like this, check it out

  • sweet guitar sound

  • any chance you could throw the tabs at me? excellent work by the way, well done... sounds fantastic

  • Can I have the chords please?

  • This is in A right?

  • I absolutely LOVE watching you play this.

I love this riff, I love this song, and you play it so awesome !

  • Modest Mouse's old second guitarist, Dann Galucci used to play one of those.

  • awesome tone dude

  • it's nice...clean, simple and...good...

  • oh my goodness! i can't stop watching you play this lol, where did you get the tabs?

  • theres no way in hell he used a tab

this guy is a world class guitarist

i'm sure he sat down with a guitar and the recording and took care of the basics in little time

he doesnt play the very same melody as marr

    but hes close

    and it sounds great

  • how could i have known he was "world class"? the main point is, it sounds awesome!

  • awesome man. great tone and delay. i just bought a gibson sg, but i want a tele now after watching this. im gonna go learn this now. cheers

  • Excellent

  • You better lock up that Tele tight, cause my goal is to now find out where you are keeping it and stealing it. But seriously, love it.

Keep up the good playing too.

  • nice.Modest mouse. i have a guitar madde in mexico, only it's an HSS strat. do you know any songs off of good news or sad sappy sucker?

  • is your telecaster '72 made in U.S.A.? or made in Mexico?

  • It's 100% Mexican, none of that USA crap.

  • wtf....

    US Fenders are way better....

  • It was a joke, ese.

  • lol i love your irony

  • @danielearwicker American made fenders are the best kind so you dont make much sense, just like the video.

  • @danielearwicker your guitar has the swine flu

  • Why would you trust anything made in Mexico?

  • Comment removed

  • You don't know what you're talking about. Have fun with all your Nazi friends down in Argentina though. I hear it's still the best place to get quality wienerschnitzel.

Hey Daniel, you're still playing it wrong!

  • @danielearwicker eh, i've had american standards, MIM's, and chinese squiers. which one I liked best had absolutely nothing to do with what country it was made in.

  • @danielearwicker Dude. All the top notch guitars are american. They put there crappy cheap counterparts in mexico japan and indonesia.

  • @MrDrDuck - you may have overlooked the humorous thrust of my comment.

  • @danielearwicker Ah. Sorry. Didn't catch that.

  • @gosh21c most of all usa strat are made by mexicans anyway

  • awesome guitar sound

  • hey this is really cool your guitar sounds class!at first i thought you playing really slow cos u were a bit shit! i was wrong nice one!!xxxx

  • Hey man, i love your tone...which amp are you using? effects? settings??? Cheers

  • iveee played that guitar before...its really niceee nice nd heavy odd shaped neck but i like it ....still prefer my gibson lespaull....classic custom silverburst

  • i like this!

  • dude, this is amazing,

    i love modest mouse.

  • beast guitar man

  • whats the difference between the 72 custom and the 72 deluxe

  • The deluxe has a stratocaster headstock and humbuckers at both the bridge and neck position. The custom comes with the standard tele headstock and a single coil pickup at the bridge position as seen here

  • thx! is there a price difference? if you own a american strat and a gretsch electromatic , which of those tele's would you buy?

  • No there are no price difference, its almost the same and I prefer the custom, its more versatile

  • I prefer the custom, but that's just my opinion. I agree that the strat headstock does look sort of hideous on the tele, though. They're both incredible guitars, regardless.

  • well i think the custom looks alot better

    and it cheaper i think

  • yeah the strat headstock looks quite ugly on a telecaster body.. thx

  • the deluxe has compound radius on the fretboard

I love deluxes and I wish I could afford one from the early 70s now.. Ill get one of those later on somehow

  • Nice guitar

  • you've got a lovely tone, just right for the song in my opinion :)

what amp you running it through?

  • sweet

  • sounds like ur guitar is tuned a bit to low

  • yeah it sounds good but you are playing the chords differently

that first B minor chord with the Dflat note on the high E string is played with the thumb over neck bar chord style (look up dashboard on letterman). with this method the A string is muted (in this case). however when you play it with the standard bar chord style you are not muting the A string, and with that shape you are playing an E on the A string, making the first chord you play a Bminor7 instead of a Bminor.

  • @adik2004 yeah he'splaying it differently. There's no right or wrong way. Johnny has said himself to play his songs your own way.

  • johnny marr, mint guitarist, i know his son ha! i have his sons capo! ;)

  • with all due respect, who cares about his son, we care about Johhnys work not his offspring.

  • can you please send me the tabs!?!??!

  • mmm yhea me think worth a comement

  • This is really good. It's not exactly the same as the song. But I love it!

  • awesome!!!

  • You cross your legs just like Johnny Marr

  • I think he did that in purpose

  • FUCK sweet geet

    go keth richards

  • Does this guitar sound like a tele at all? If it does, what are the differences?

  • this doesnt really make sense

  • rofl. thats what i was thinking

  • Are you aware that the guitar in this video is a tele?

  • I meant the humbucker. does it still sound like a tele should?

  • bobbins lol. if you can't hear the tune, or need tabs, u should go laying bricks.

  • good but not completely correct i dont think

  • does anyone have tabs on this for me??

    or chords?

    it will be greatly appreciated

  • very well done!

  • Beautiful song, awesome riff, beautiful guitar..

  • u rock

  • Thats my guitar!

    it rocks

    you rock!

  • Ha, I couldn't understand what this vid was. I was looking for johnny marr clips and then found you playing a Modest mouse song. Huh? O geez, where have I been, in a cave? ha

  • Hey, what kind of amp are you using? I like your tone.

  • yeah post those tabs somewhere cuz the ones ive got are different n i like urs more

  • whrer did u get ya tabs from. can u please tell me??

  • Amazing guitar work... Johnny is incredible. The guitar work in Modest Mouse is almost melancholy, a beautiful yet slightly sad emotional piece, and its as though it portrays a totally separate feeling and meaning from the rest of the song and lyrics. The same is found in Ocean Breathes Salty and Dramamine... Keep up the good work!

  • You have Isaac to thank for the great guitar work pre-We were dead before the ship even sank-Modest mouse. Johnny Marr didn't join the band till then.

  • dude...unreal!seriously!

  • sweet man!

    i wanna learn

  • Johnny Marr isn't playing full barre chords across all 6 strings. He's only fretting the notes on the top 4 strings. But other than that you have it down.

  • I think he uses hes thumb for the other two.

  • that was awesome i loved it

  • dude! now i know why i love dashboard so much. johnny marr is guitar!!! And i love the smiths. i love the riff for this song especially. i don't know much about modest mouse however.

  • AWSOME!!!

  • nice

  • WHOAA THTS SO COOL! i love dashboard!

  • aw god buddy your doin it all wrong ... and those off key notes are doin me head in ...

  • Nice work! You know your stuff :)

  • Not exactly the same but who cares. Lovin that guitar sound by the way. Good job

  • The real trick would be to figure out the chorus riff.

  • I got that

  • Haha that's sooooo difficult - I can't hear it over the horns/string section :(

  • It's prefect. The wya you play it is so much easier than the things I found on the internet.

  • ooo hate to break it to you but i think that's a little off..

  • How devastating.

  • what pedals are you using for dat sound?

  • please send me waht you´re doing (tabs or chords)

  • thats not right, too low

  • Search for the official video on YouTube, it's in exactly the same key.

  • the microphone is just picking up a lot of the lower frequencies aka (bass sounds)

  • i hate to say it but i think that sounds a little better without isaac singing

  • I've seen Marr playing this song, and even if your version sounds good, I believe he uses different fingering.

  • i myself am trying to get that riff, i think this will help me a lot thank nice guitar and yes it's grat to see marr doing such nice melodies again

    see you

  • nice butt its played somewhere in the 7th and 9th frets but VERY nice better than wat i could do!!

  • close but a little shaky, there's some small nuances you're missing like the slide into the Aadd6 chord.

  • About the right notes, but defintely not the exact chords.

  • Awesome J Marr's the man!

  • Dudes! When will y'all learn that he dont uses Tabs? ^^

  • haha can you send me the tabs too if possible...your guitar sounds awesome

  • Fantastic.. this riff is simple Fantastic !

  • search for the tabs yourselves, lazy buggers...

but! what pedal are you using?

  • well done, i can just imagine isaac's part in there too

  • can u send the tabs or a link to the website that you got this from pretty please with sugar and a cherry on top

  • Thanks, Daniel. That's the best explanation of what's going on inside a song I've ever seen.

  • Johnny's the man.

  • cool i want to learn this!

  • You should add some delay.

  • i have this guitar and it is a delight. simply the best guitar possible.

  • only thing about your riff is that you play the 7th too loud during the G chord. otherwise, that's what i play. pretty good! and im not sure, but i think he possibly doesn't use a pick on the record.

  • haha nice.

it took balls to say that.

    but good playing =)

  • i like how it looks like your legs are crossed.

  • It ain't no illusion, dude. They really were crossed. It's called CORRECT GUITAR POSTURE.

  • tab please. just link me to it or something i wanna learn it

  • Check ultimate-guitar[dot]com and search for Dashboard. The first one that comes out is not perfect, but it's close to what this guy is doing.

  • This is cool. I play it a bit differently, but its cool, and lovely tele too.

  • nice one

  • Great video.. but i have two questions...

    ¿Marr play in the disc...?

What a piece of guitar, is squier o fender (delux 72?). Please tell me more about the model.

    bye

  • It is Marr on the record. There's an interview where he says "Within the first hour, we started kicking around this riff that ended up being Dashboard." Anyway it has a very Marr-ish feel to it. For more info on the guitar, search for "fender custom 72" - it's different from a deluxe, only one humbucker and the normal "ashtray" bridge.

  • tab please?

  • This is not the entirely correct way of playing the song but pretty close though.

You´ve got the chords right but Marr doesn´t hit all of them, just play the first four strings and occassionally the low E-string.

  • Thanks for the post

  • nice, tab please?

  • tab please?

  • pretty damn good dude, i think you may have got 1 or 2 notes wrong, but i cant play a guitar so i really cant say much about that without looking like an ass

    nice job MM FTW
