Not to make excuses for Kanye, but I wish people would acknowledge all that he has gone through in the past few years. First he loses his mother and then his fiance leaves him. He was always cocky, but his actions got worst after all that. I think his ego did not allow him to take a big enough break to deal with the issues he was facing. And if you listen to the lyrics in his music after these events, he is crying out for help. Anyway, I think he's a great artist, but he's human and has flaws.
