it has nothing to do with the sound like rock, blues or dubstep. but instead is about the band not signing with a major label which helps the band keep total control over there music thus maintaining there integrety with there music

@xledzepplinx Not really true anymore. The term has come to define a sound. Hell, many bands that are generally considered to be indie are signed to vanity labels owned by one of the big 5. Indie rock definitely has a sound to it.
