Great track: Steve seemed to move into a funky sound period on this LP 'Arc of a diver'
He departed temporarily from Rock music but still exhibited some quality guitar work on many tracks. Never doubted the man - I just forgot what 'genre' he was playing and listened to him and it was A-OK!
Bought the direct cut the day it was released. Wore this track out. Steve is a musical genius with one of the most recognisable voices in rock and blues . Saw him live with Steely Dan in Australia recently. Still as good as he was 30 years ago.
Out of the gates and rolling ...whew then some skins from sin ...great track ...first heard about the time I bought the record ... in Sweden 1980 or thereabouts !!!
Listened to this non-stop back in the early 80s when I lived in Sydney. Now I'm back after all these years - still the best city in the world and I'm still playin' Stevie!
Arc of a Diver. I played the shyte out of this album back in the day. (yes, back when music was vinyl). And this was my fav track. Thanks for posting. Good visuals too.
At the start of the song I can visualize a helicopter doing stunts, or a Lamborghini doing 230 Km./hr with two chicks in it......must be my 1980's mind.
I was an FM jock in the late 70's early 80's and hated it that this song didn't get much exposure. I played it alot. Best song on the album I thought.
whoever's spreading rumors of steve's death, get a life. winwood's fully alive and his great music will never die. he's more alive than most people can even imagine.
Fantastic, my favorite song, from my humble point of view, there´s no other music like this, I always love this one, always like to listen...Thank´s Steeve for this amazing, fabolous, unique song.
As of today (26 June 2011), Mr Winwood is physically alive and well. Perhaps one could not say the same for his artistic output, which has been AWOL for close to 20 years.
@jcb3cmmrce not so , his album 9 is pretty darn good , 9 songs on the 9th solo album ,track 5 is excellent , help on a fantastic ending from EC !! and other albums showing that he is still pound for pound the best , long live maestro . his tour with eric clapton , blind faith revisited is excellent 2 cd of the live tour .......awesome
Well I don't fit into that Most audiophiles group . This has been my favorite song by him since I bought Arc of A Diver way back when . Still my favorite CD of his too. And since I didn't have cable back in the day i mist all the glory years of MTV . Mostly I would say I didn't miss much ,And what i did miss is on here . I only have abbreviated songs because they exist . I rarely listen to them . Same with the radio . I have always had a Music collection in one format or another .
"Steve is only underated in minds who have obscured him with the music that washed out in the 80's and up.and forgot artists from an era where He was highly regarded. He, played many Instruments on Traffics albums when they recorded and were just three He had this under him back in late 60's Hendrix loved him and traffic. Recruited him, mason and wood to play on the Electriclady land . He was a Legend then and a consumate musician Now, even Clapton wants Him and a GREAT Guitar player He is.
This is a great ROCK tune and unveils Winwood's prowess as one of the greatest musician/singers of all time! (He played every single instrument on this album!)
great pop song with a little bit disco and a little bit of new wave, just the kind of muzik I like. I have the 12" single and the versions on it are a little different but are just as good as the LP version.
Yeah, I had Arc and Talking Back To The Night on tape (still do) back in high school, back in the mid-80's... actually, Night Train and Spanish Dancer are my favorite songs on this!
FirstI thought,1981 Steve Winwood going Disco...but many years later.....What a greatful unique song : bom bom tek bom = this isn't disco ;-)))) He was a little bit shy to do it...
I picked up the album in 1981 not long after "While You see a Chance" became a U.S. hit.
I always thought his bass work at the start of the piece and the guitar solo towards the end were awesome.
As the setting for a cool video that would suit the brooding atmospherics, I always imagined riding the "Enterprise"; the 2-hour train route from Dublin to Belfast, which was much disrupted by bomb threats during the bad old days of the Troubles.
have only heard this a few hundred times so far. have 45rpm live version of this with all instrumental on side 2. that sound the guitar, the voice. isn't that what some people call him " the voice". wonder why. tthnxxx for posting
When this first came out, I was in process of building a second floor deck, off my bedroom and had this blasting on my in room stereo. Wow, I can remember it like yesterday, although it was 25 years ago. Now I listen to it while riding the Harley. Can't stop loving it!!!!
Excellent!!! I had long burned this puppy into my archives, then heard a snippet of it lately, and wondered where I'd heard it before. NOW I know. This is a deep cut most audiophiles probably wouldnt remember, because it got airplay on TV in its much abbreviated version.
Hey Dude, I rembr it! The reason being I'm from the N. Coast (NE OHIO), the home of Rock & Roll! They used to play this regularly on the stations up there when I was a HS senior back in '81. I used to crank this up to get psyched up to do my 20 mile runs during my senior year of track.
@FiltersRus excellent deep cut from a truly unique album, Steve played all the instruments himself, and did his own backing vocals, an entirely self made record, God, we need more musicians like him now, Paris to Spain, countries in pain, Europe dying..................................................great line from this song

This is back in my days when they actually played instruments, not just scratched records to make squeeky noises like today.
