with the whole thing about jack black being on drums, look at eagles of death metal who sometimes have josh hommes' from Queens of the Stone Age and Them Crooked Vultures. He's a fucking awesome guitarist, and just an ok drummer. same thing with Jack White. None of them are bad at drums, but they can do what they're needed for...
B) He's revered more highly for his drumming abilities (his first instrument) amongst drummers than he is for his guitar playing abilities amongst guitarists.
@TheAbsolutionHowl He is? Since when? He's a good drummer but he can't touch guys like Carey, Bozzio, Gadd, etc. As a guitarist, though, he's up there with the greats.
I actually agree with you on that, wholeheartedly. Unfortunately a lot of guitarists still hate him because they think his playing is "juvenile and simple."
I'm going to guess that standpoint comes from metalheads and people who hate garage rock and retro bands.
But he doesn't recieve nearly as much negativity from drummers about his drumming.
It's unfortunate.
I think he's probably in the top 5 for current slide guitarists too. I can't wrap my head around some stuff he can do with a slide
yeah totally. He's not technically freakish like Vai or Satriani, but he puts all of his feeling and emotion into his playing, and that's what really matters. Technique, (while amazing to watch) is only half of it.
yeah, prolly my favorite on the album as well... i think its really cool that they are going into the studio in december to record another album... i am pretty excited about that... they said they want to have the second album out within a year of the first...
54321fuckyou........ seriously fuck you you dont shit about guitar your dumb ass knows how to play guitar but you dont get it man Jack white is the premiere song writer of this generation so shove your guitar up your ass because you shouldnt be playing.. you just dont get it
Yo, everybody is entitled to their own opinion, I mean jack white is great n all but there are other musicians that would be on par with his compositions, great band btw
I have, idiot. Learn to respect opinions before you make an idiot out of yourself. If you think he's a good drummer, you've obviously never listened to any Dream Theater, Tool, or any jazz.
No, he doesn't drum with any technicality. THAT'S why he's not that good. Also, the song you referred me to was not "amazing". THAT'S why your opinion is of little value. You pretend to "know" music because you listen to a pop "supergroup" and you get defensive when someone has their own opinion. Open your mind, and ears, and maybe you'll become just that much less ignorant.
First of all jerk off, I never said anything was amazing. And again, because someone doesn't play with "technicality" doesn't mean they're not good. Music and technicality do not go hand-in-hand dumbass. He's not a technical guitar player, yet he's good right? Fuck you.
Um, musicality and technicality DO go hand-in-hand, idiot. I never said that he was NOT technically proficient with the guitar; he is. Thus he is an amazing guitar player. I expressed my opinion that he wasn't good on drums as his sense of rhythm and technicality is not par with his other fields of instrumental use. And, imho, it isn't. Then, you came off like complaining like an idiot. Respect other opinions rather than blurting out idiocy like you have chosen to do. Go ahead, bitch more
I will, If you think Jack White is a technical guitar player you're more delusional that I thought. Jack White is one of my favorite guitarists but calling him technical is just silly. And if you think music and technicality go together you must not like blues. Go study.
Must not like blues? Lol, I must laugh at you now. Jack is INCREDIBLY technical. If you doubt that, look at his jam with Jimmy Page on It Might Get Loud. Albeit, he isn't as technical as Paul Gilbert, but he is extremely gifted. His live renditions of Killing Floor, his improvised pieces on Death Letter, and his "controlled" improv. on Blue Veins at NPR are pinnacles of technical blues. Study that, genius.
Also, if you wish to became well a learned individual in blues mastery by Jack White, contrasting the ignorant hothead you are right now, actually go to a White Stripes/Raconteurs concert. More so on White Stripes' concerts, Jack White dabbles with untitled blues jams at the start/end of the concert. Also, in concert, his improvised arpeggios and segways into slide, mostly on Ball and Biscuit and Red Rain, are AMAZINGLY technical. (Continued)
Technicality in guitar playing often drains "feeling" out of a performance, is Jack White lacking feeling? NO. Would you say Joe Satriani's guitar playing has tons of feeling? NO!
Again, Jimi had "feeling" when he played, but was also quite technical. SRV, though up for debate to some, played with much "feeling" and still was technically learned. Buckethead is mostly without "feeling", but he is able to break out into intensely "emotional" pieces while maintaining technical mastery. Also, Paul Gilbert is able to control and express quite well. Same is true with Duane Allman. M.Ward is a modern example.
Also, a rarity, Jack White's rendition of Zeppelin's Since I've Been Loving You is a collage of raw emotion and astounding technical mastery. If calling Jack White technical "is just silly", I cringe at your influences. I assume you're one of those stupid blokes who discredit the technical skill of Jimi because of his sloppiness? Study up, young buck.

I went to The White Stripes in Madison Square Garden, The Raconteurs in Terminal 5 and The Dead Weather in Terminal 5. And again I love Jack White but I wouldn't call missing notes, breaking strings (which he does purely for show), and playing in and out of key technical. Now for someone who plays guitar, like myself, I know that he's not technical. I myself am not technical.
Breaking strings does NOT equate a lack in technicality. Missing strings serve a purpose if that's the desired sound. In jazz, you purposely break up chords to miss strings and play them as an "incomplete" arpeggio. Also playing in and out of key is actually a highly technical part of jazz (imho the most difficult music form) as long as you can move flawlessly into the next chord when it is noted. I am a guitarist as well and I pride myself in playing with "emotion" and with skill.
Hey dudes, i drum and sing....at the same time. Jack's a big influence. But lately i've been getting bored of not being able to move around while i play, which is why im taking up guitar.
If you anyone could help me out and just tell me the chord progression ( i think that's what it's called haha) of this song that would help me out a bunch. Thanks!
