my dell mini 10v is alot slower for some reason.. im running windows xp and its still really slow. Im trying to take out all the programs i dont need but its not making it as fast as yours
what do you mean by data loss from it being bumped, like if i was typeing in the car for example and someone hit a bump and shaked my lap top would i lose memory? thanks man im not all that tech savy
@wrdomoraskyhotmail no, not that sensative. i mean the hard drive having mechanical failure. basically a hard drive is a tiny record player. head moves along the discs inside that spin. you drop a netbook, that drive could be damaged.
hi, dunno if this is a stupid question or something, but do you like have to do something to get the touch pad to scroll? cauuse mine is like normal wherever i put my finger on the edges and stuff...
@kewlekul it's a synaptics trackpad, so it does have edge scrolling which does work on linux as well. basically you put your finger on the right edge for up and down scrolling and along the bottom for horizontal scrolling
@lmull3 ok i dont know with the technical words and stuff, but basicly thats what im doing and still the cursor just moves normally...but thanks for tryin to help :D
@TheGreatBunghole16 i have. it runs it pretty well. i've run linux mint on it a lot more though. mint is based on ubuntu though so it's essentially the same thing
hey jw about the bettery life with the standard 3-cell battery? also hows the battery life on the 6-cell? and can u click by just tapping the track pad like on most laptops?? TY in advance =)
@TheMickeymouse4348 on the 3 cell in practicality it's supposed to last like 2 and a half to 3 hours. the 6 cell battery lasts a long long time. i've gotten 5 hours out of it.
@smlshortdude it runs both just fine, but you'll probably get better battery life with Windows XP. i'd still use 7 because Microsoft is trying to phase out XP.
Uhh, hello? No moving parts in a mobile device that could get banged around. I don't have an SSD in it anymore anyway because I found out that the one I have is cacheless while all hard drives now have cache as well as any SSD that has a chance of being good.
i just bought a refurbed one of these from the dell site it comes with win 7 starter, it hopefully comes tomorrow, im planning to open it up upgrade the ram and improve cooling efficiency so i can overclock the cpu and gpu, only fun times ahead!
i'm not planning to 'hackintosh' it. i dont need or use apple products any way
*hopes flamewar won't break out*
Anyway i have got my netbook now and as usual, dell supplied a broken power adapter and would not answer my emails, so i had to buy a new cheap one from ebay, which is actually very good.
nah i was just wondering if u wanted os x on it. lolz. windows 7 is nice. will u maybe installing windows 7 home premium? starter is a bit. well weak to say the least. lolz
@sillychicken599 lol yea, starter is incredibly basic and boring, as soon as i build up my funds again ill go for home premium or pro. I find this netbook quite allot more useful than i thought, i've been using it as a very much quieter alternative to my desktop for watching videos and using the internet, just plug the desktops monitor and some other stuff and it turns into a nettop, too bad it doesn't have a docking station to make the process easier
i suggest that you get a laptop with a decent graphic chip like an hp mini 311 that has an nvidia tegra. The intel chip on this computer is ok but will struggle with 1080p.
@mwu10x you basically have to dissassemble the laptop and flip the motherboard over to get to the RAM slot. search how to do it here on youtube and you'll probably find the video i used as a guide. it's a pain in the ass, but 2 GB of ram is really nice so i think it's worth it
@ctgartland turns out that SSD i got is crap. the firmware isn't user upgradable......epic fail. don't buy Kingston V-Series SSD's for OS disks. they're fine for storage but as an OS disk, you want firmware upgrades to younger technologies.
@oo7som are you just telling me to do that or is that a question or what? lol. Windows XP and Windows 7 work well with this netbook as well as some linux and unix distros.
@oo7som i just took a look at the site and i would not get the one with 7 because it comes with starter edition which is crippled and terrible for my uses. i installed Windows 7 with a Windows 7 DVD, lol.
i haven't hackintosh'd it because i don't have a reason to put Mac OS X on the netbook. i use Mac OS X for it's video editing software and i wouldn't want to video edit on a netbook. screen's too small.
the process of changing the RAM is a pain in the ass. yes, you have to remove the keyboard. you basically have to dismantle it and flip the motherboard over to where the RAM slot is. there are videos on youtube that give you a step by step process
Could u install iMovie? Or what do u use to edit your videos?

Good review. That 128GB SSD must've cost you a LOT of money. Buuuuut...it is a lot more efficient and secure so it is worth it.

u can buy 2 versions of the netbook. the regule one with xp and the netbook with 7 but with extra cost of $30.

if you're planning on doing this, you'll need to know that there's only one ram slot, so buy a 2 gig stick.
